First, a really cool little detail: If you look at the title screen, it shows Martianise as seen from the islet, so basically, the scene from the killer's perspective. In a sense, the *very* first thing you see in the game is the solution to the murder. As far as Vicquemare goes, it's complicated. If you see it from his point of view, he's not being unreasonable. He's had to cover for an unstable partner for years, constantly *hoping* you'd pull yourself together and being disappointed again and again. You can understand him being angry at you, because Harry has put him through years of hell, but despite it, he has several lines indicating that he still cares and wants things to get better. I think it's something where people might often feel more sympathetic towards him on a second playthrough, because he is so overtly hostile to you that the initial reaction is usually going to be negative. Lastly, I just want to say wow, what an intro! You put a lot of effort into that :D
There also so many nice details that add up, like with reaction speed telling you he was disguising himself as Guillaume Bevy and then empathy chiming in with “He genuinely thought it would be amusing, for both of you”
Yeah, I also feel I have to defend Jean here. When I played this, I don’t think I had a negative reaction to him. It doesn’t seem to me like it takes much to put yourself in his shoes and empathize with him. The reason most people I’ve seen play through the game have largely negative reactions to him is probably because they’re comparing him to Kim. It’s also easy to disregard the little hints the game gives and the knowledge of how long Jean has had to put up with Harry’s drinking, although I don’t think either of these is the game’s fault. I think the writers did the best they could in this regard.
You really have put the most effort I’ve ever seen anyone put into a disco play through. Amazing!! Genuinely great to see! It’s appreciated! I honestly regret not watching these when they uploaded. Saw the first episode and the now the final few. It’s too late to go back and enjoy new and fresh. My fault. You clearly deserve the views, likes, and subscribers.

@@LukaelPlays I think the 'woman hater' as well as the 'racist' at the end might be related to the thoughts you had internalized at some point. It seems the game rembers that you had them internalized even if you forget them later. So it should be 'wöman hater' actually, if it came with the facist thought. And the racist might be the advanced race theory from Measurehead.
First: This is the coolest, weirdest, most disco ass playthrough I've ever seen. My favorite playthrough of any RPG so far (you've dethroned Mapocolops :D). Which is, of course, partly because the game itself is a masterpiece, but hugely because of you! I was always looking forward to a new episode - now there will be a hole to fill on Mondays and Fridays. I didn't think I could sit down for two hours twice a week, but you made it a genuine joy to watch! Then: The effort you put into this is extraordinary! From the slightly changing thematic intros to this masterpiece (props to the artist, too!) to you taking notes and using a dictionary to not let anything pass you by, to finding a new, similar intro background music to play, etc. I know you got some complaints for not looking at the body earlier, but I really liked how thorough you were, getting to know Martinaise and it's people. I also enjoyed that you let the voice acting play out, even if it is a little slow sometimes, it just felt very organic and immersive that way. In general, I really enjoyed how you tried to see everything and talk to everyone. I thought I had a thorough playthrough with about 60 hours and I *still* missed so many things that your Harry experienced. This game is so rich in story, it really lends itself to completionists (and a second and maybe even third playthrough). There are honestly even more things I enjoyed watching this series, and I can't remember how often I thought "So cool, I should put this in the comments!" and then I forgot about it, because the episode was just so long and other cool stuff happened. I should have taken notes while watching. :D Please rest assured that it was a pleasure to watch. Man, what an experience! I will miss those episodes. So I'm looking forward to whatever you're starting next and to the next and last episode of course. Stay Disco! Lastly: I kind of feel for Jean Vicquemare. He's a satellite-officer, so, as Kim explained, Harry quickly rose through the ranks and he, as Harry's partner, rose with him. So he watched his somewhat violent, drunken, suicidal mess of a partner get promoted to Captain *twice*, because, apparently, he's still more efficient at the job than the lot of you. You know, like a coworker from hell? :D And now you have to work together and then Harry tells his squad to f*ck off, you're all cramping his style. While I did feel the same as you, I wanted Kim as partner, not my weirdo squad, Kim is so cool, I did understand where Jean is coming from and why he is so incredibly bitter.
This honestly means so much to me! Comments like these are what makes all the effort worthwhile! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on the playthrough and it makes me very happy that you noticed all the little things I've been doing to try and make it special! a handful of people have now said that this was their favorite DE playthrough and that's a really huge compliment! It may be over now but I hope you'll be interested in watching some of the other games that are coming to the channel! I know I've been a bit harsh on Jean, and like I tried explaining, I do understand why he is the way he is, it's entirely fair and understandable considering what Harry has put him through over the years, but I'm mixed on the voice performance and the way he's included in the plot. I feel it could have been handled a bit better, but I'm really nitpicking at this point!
Thanks for playing this game and congrats for finishing it! Even if the dense worldbuilding is overwhelming at first, I think it wins people over eventually and makes you more invested into it and the characters. A deeply human game about all the good and bad life has to offer.
I've enjoyed every moment of this awesome playthrough. Thanks for all of the thought and effort put into it! Your attention to the details really made it unique and enjoyable, and it's been such an amazing experience! For most, Jean Vicquemare's character is either hated or just ok, sometimes funny, I haven't heard someone rating him highly. IMO he's not really unpleasant if you account for him working a very tough and traumatic job, people in these kinds of mentally taxing fields tend to be a lot rougher (military is a good example as well). These kind of behaviors help to cope with mental stress, especially when there are other people (partners/comrades in arms) with the same circumstances you can mutually shit on and be self deprecating with.

I'm fervently glad you enjoyed the game, I knew you would :) Sincerely, this is the best playthrough of Disco Elysium currently existing on TH-cam. There's one very close, DM me if you want to know, because I don't want to mention any other channels on my favorite one. Regarding Jean - he's an asshole, but a good man. At least that's my read. He's pretty much Harry, but not an alcoholic and not as sensetive, though just as cynical, if not much more. I believe he truly cares about him and does recognize him as a great detective. Why else would he not switch partners and conspire with Harry to organize their task-force. He just also sees his flaws more deeply than anyone else and is conserned about the future. That, and he's also been hurt and let down by Harry probably a multipuple times. He's just depressed and tired, and doesn't have the same level of emotional (and overall) intelligence that Kim does. Kim is a treasure, not a norm. And I do feel like Kim would be an ideal partner for Harry. That's why he was, for a time. Completely share your thoughts about potential sequels. Apparently the Disco Elysium sequel would have Jean Vicquemare as your primary partner. Probably would've made players who hated him to warm up to him. Unfortunately, that won't happen.
I like the talk about Rene the most, that's sad check failed there. Two last soldiers of forgotten past let, sharing that connection despite being on the opposite sides.
Great playthrough, kudos on the intro and all the effort throughout. My first run was an ultraliberal speedfreak, second a straight-laced fascist. Such an amazing game
I really enjoyed your playthrough, and I saw a lot of things that I never saw in my 30hrs of playthroughs of my own. As for liking Jean - he's definitely an asshole, but it's easy to forget that his entire time as Harry's partner he's been dealing with the pre-game Harry, who it seems was kind of a self destructive drunk asshole himself. It also seems like Harry has had a history of saying he'll do better and then failing again. Jean is just bitter and pessimistic, Kim has only known the Harry who tried to be better (because of player choice).
Any given playthrough will expose you to maybe 20%-30% of the script. There’s a LOT you haven’t seen. But, just like Fortress Accident, they were unable to finish the game on their own terms. Hence the slightly awkward ‘trial’ at the end, which is just a grade sheet for your performance in disguise. Viquemare is a difficult character to write, because the kind of person you can let Harry be can be wildly different from game to game. There are lots of Harrys out there who deserve no love from his former partner whatsoever. You just happened to have played a Harry adamant about getting his shit together, so JV sounds very harsh at the end. I do agree though that a lot of it comes from the bad voice actor. And let’s call a spade a spade. The guy who did JV did a bad job.
Possibly part of having 72 hours is having to let the narrator do his thing, for the sake of making the videos. Even though I really liked him, I don't have the patience for things read so dramatically slower than I read. I would say the other half is you being very thorough, making sure new dialogues or characters didn't appear in already-visited areas. I did not bother, so I had 37 hrs, despite trying to do everything my character would let me. I also did not like Vicquemare much either. Both my sympathetic nature, and past history as a shitkid did not help his case. Dunno what to say. To his credit, the one good useful thing he does, is help walk Harry to the car at the very end. I'm sorry the game called you a fascist, you did not deserve that. You were careful to avoid saying such things. I put this on last night as I was going to bed, so don't remember everything. But in that intro you made, the mention of, "and he's probably still wearing that stupid hat, isn't he?" made me burst out laughing, and at that point I watched the whole thing, despite trying to sleep. Who I did love was the Communard deserter. The only person in the game as dedicated to a cause might be Kim. But the old commissar is so engulfed by his hatred, that nothing is left of him other than his values, his shattered dreams. Whereas Kim allows himself to still be human, being a gearhead, and who knows what other hobbies in his off-time. There is not much I can say without going on a diatribe, but the man did have one good point: no one gave a shit about Martinaise until he killed a fascist war criminal. It gives the game perspective, in that everything Harrier chooses to do or not do can have a profound effect on how society here moves forward. Even if it is condemned to be part of the neoliberal, Moralintern norm. Actually, I take some of that back. The dude was pretty perverse in regards to Klassje. I am not sure how much of his thoughts and behavior, negative or not, can be blamed on the bug, and how much comes from his personality. I prefer there not being a concrete answer to that. Soucriant/ Soucouyant: a folklore character who is an old woman by day, a bloodsucking vampire by night. I love words derived from French that have soo-coo, and soo-shoo sounds, such as insouciant. Well that's it then. Always sad to see the long playthroughs wrap up. At least, for now, I will not stay up two hours past bedtime to watch these. 😂 Don't worry, there are way more issues keeping my insomnia alive than youtube. And now we have the silly daylight savings time fuckery messing with the clocks again tonight. Well. On to bigger and better things. Good work.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, as always! I like to read your comments about the game and playthrough and I share a lot of your opinions!😌 until the next game I play that manages to keep you up at night! 😁
Speaking of voice acting, the racist lorry driver switches accents/inflections multiple times when talking to him. Also the use of the same voice actors being right next to each is annoying. Tommy next to menana, Joyce next to Lilian so forth. Final note, I liked the original Titus voice compared to the Final Cut. Check it out.
The intro is so phenominal holy shit i knew i wouldnt regret watching this playthrough much love boss

Will likely attempt a wild Harry run at some point but it sadly wont be on the channel 😅
Oh my God, I don't feel worth so much effort 😢
You are!
By the way, I know it makes no sense, but "colonel" is pronounced "curnel."
That is so weird lmao
Wait, why did the game assign fascism as his second ideology? He didn't say that many fascist things? I'm confused.
He internalized thoughts tho. The game seems to remember this.
It is quite peculiar how characters are often very close to another with the same voice actor huh 😆
