Every coach says the same thing about running offense through AD but as long as LBJ is on this team the offense will continue to run through him

I found it interesting that when the Bron/JJ podcast came out everyone agreed it was revolutionary for basketball podcasts and was clear that it was being hosted by two very astute basketball savants. But when JJ’s name came up as a potential coach for the Lakers all of a sudden “he doesn’t know anything, no experience, this is a Lebron hire to run the team in the background, JJ is being set up to be a fall guy etc, etc.”
JJ from afar seems like is an intense competitor, can confront conflict head on, and is really smart…three things I found lacking from Ham in his performance as head coach. Ham’s strength to me was how he handled himself in press conferences early on. He could sell you any dream and you’d believe it. With that alone he should get another opportunity.

This will end up being a great hire. He’s feisty and has a great mind on the x/o’s. People keep talking about experience but show me the retreads that have worked out. You have to take these risks to find a future gem cuz nobody lets a great coach walk out the door unless you’re Jerry Krause.

The proven retreads like Mark Jackson, Milwaukee' ex coach, Lionel Hollins, and others. Frank Vogel won a championship until they let LeBron James talk them into getting Russell Westbrook and Mark Gasol. A podcast is not the same as an actual NBA game.

This was the, "I don't give a fuck" press conference. I was very impressed and used to dislike him as much as I disliked Laetner. JJ's clearly a grinder and cares about the details. Being OCD in business myself, I totally understand that mindset. Having worked in Silicon Valley, Rob acts like a Stanford MBA prick.

All that is easier said..But he still has never been an NBA coach on Any level....how to run practices and for how long, how to handle players whining about PT because they all do. What happens when the opposing coaches figure out what your doing. Hope it all works..As For Rob dude was one of the best and most successful Agents out there that explains your thoughts on him resembling a Stanford MBA dude.

Lakers were one of the best 4th quarter teams in the league last season. Not too much is broke there but yes, obv AD needs more touches. Some of it is LBJ conceding some of the control and force feeding AD more often but at the same time AD could be much more assertive than he previously has. A key for me is simply more structured play calling down the stretch w/ clear roles that are more defined for everyone, not just those two. Feels like there will be more emphasis off the ball this year.

Excellent choice for Coach. Lakers will be better with a healthy team next year. Math is his system, means 3 pt baskets are worth more than 2 pt baskets. Expect Max and JHS to be in the rotation early. If Delo stays, he will be the Gunner off the bench.

Conceptually, a coach needs a vision and an ability to execute that vision. JJ clearly has a vision. The question is, will he be able to execute the vision.

I can't wait to see how this goes. For starters to come out to a presser dropping F bombs unprovoked... we are in for a treat after an ugly loss lol. Question... didn't the last two coaches try to make AD the "hub"... Didn't Darvin push for more 3s (notably saying he wanted AD to shoot "several")... sounds like the same plan just presented in a more techy, Pelinka-ish kinda way. Darvin (even Vogul) generated plenty 3s... guys gotta make em. I usually root for trades, but i actually want to see what the "all intelligent" JJ can do with this roster. If the roster gets upgraded, then we are grading on a curve.

What I heard is Redick has specific ideas in terms of offensive philosophy/identity of this team, specific roles for the personnel on this team....
What i didn't hear though is his thoughts on the other end of the floor.... Defensive rebounding, transition D, a certain lack of physicality esp at the guard/wing positions... All of these didn't come up....hmm.... Clearly he needs a defensive specialist and with decent coaching experience!!

    • @Murali_bala13
      @Murali_bala13 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Depends on what you mean by going to work???
If JJ gets to get the young players to develop and contribute in well defined roles, get a system in place which is based on basketball acumen and fits the roster and fingers crossed, the roster is relatively healthy, the Lakers can certainly do what the Mavs did last season....
He is already tiers better than Ham, wouldn't you agree....??
I always felt Lakers, when they did well in last 2 seasons, did inspite of Ham, not because of him

A coach who never coached before is hired by a team with the most uncoachable player in the league and a plethora of roster problems.
In the last 10 years the Lakers looked like a title contender only once or twice (2019-2020 & 2020-2021). They were both under a proven coach. In all of the other seasons the Lakers either missed the playoffs or barely made it. All of them were under first-time coaches: Walton and Ham. Now the team is making the same mistake. I don't see JJ even getting a second season here.

I was born in Detroit and grew up a Detroit Lions fan under the worst owner in the history of sports, William Clay Ford. Most of the Ford family continued the legacy of losing. I remember they fired a winning coach in Jim Caldwell for Matt Patricia. Patricia was a nuclear physicist by trade before becoming an assistant coach with the Patriots. The Lions thought if they hired Patricia he’d be the smartest man in the room and that would yield success. Patricia’s supposed brilliance didn’t translate. The Lions were a laughingstock under him and they finally had to fire Patricia and the GM who hired him. Despite the bluster from Redick he simply does not have the experience or organizational infrastructure behind him to succeed. Jeanie’s Lakers are just like William Clay Ford’s Lions as both will be best known for wasting Hall of Fame generational talent.

But in all seriousness if we don’t get a BIG(or Christian wood healthy) I’m not going to be invested in watching because clearly the lakers aren’t invested in winning.

It doesn’t matter if JJ is good or bad.
Unless a third superstar walks through that door, they won’t win the first round in the West. AD and Lebron were historically healthy, and it got them nothing. I’m sure JJ is very smart, but come’on folks….

His greatest harness to keep him from success will be the Laker front office. Let's talk about the elephant in the room, the Laker front office, Rob Pelinka and the Rambii's is laughable. Jeanie is disappointing as an owner, love her as a person, seems kind and benevolent. Her dad's legacy is fading fast. Please fire the front office and give JJ and the Lakers a fighting chance.
