    The vision here is Steve Kerr/Erik Spoelstra like, they faced a lot of media adversity too.
    Building a system like they have takes trust and patience. Jeanie and Rob that are the ones more likely to crumble under the media pressure rather than JJ, he doesn’t care.
    Wishing him all the best!

    How do we measure JJ's performance?.... Simple
    He's already cleared the bar by a mile if you're comparing him to Darwin Ham who
    1. lost the locker room completely to the point where not a single player, not one spoke a positive word or 2 about him thrub out the past season.
    2. He was way over his head when it comes to Xs and Os strategy, game management, rotations etc
    3. Complete lack of accountability was obvious in his media addresses...
    JJs going to be Red Auerbach or Pat Rilry compared to Ham in the above aspects
    But if you're going to measure JJ on championship or bust... Then you know he's already lost that battle with the current roster.
    So, the way you measure JJ is
    1. Have the young talent have shown growth and maturity within a system and team identity?
    2. Can JJ produce wins by out-scheming the opponent more often than not?
    3. How well he uses the depth and talent on this team in the right roles?.. The "Alfreds" as he likes to call them.
    4. How much he's able to get getb his stars to take the regular season seriously without f***ing around while not wearing them out.
    If he can get this team to a 2nd rd or conf finals, it will be a smashing success for JJ realistically with this roster

  • @Dennis07-yl3cf

    Andy -- 4 years for a coach that has ZERO experience is a great deal of confidence in the potential of that coach. And from Reddick's perspective, if this is a dumpster fire, 4 years isn't an eternity. But, if it works, the Lakers will no doubt extend the contract a couple of years into it. If coaching doesn't work, broadcasting will ALWAYS be there for JJ. 4 years in NO WAY undercuts JJ.

    • @LockedOnLakers
      @LockedOnLakers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Like I said during the show, in a vacuum, totally agree. It would arguably be an overly generous deal. But given the Lakers’ history of impatience (and frankly, neither knowing what they want in a coach or even valuing the position in the first place), that specific context changes the equation. To me, at least. It’s a very unusually weird set of circumstances. Appreciate you watching. AK

    @martin-hall-northern-soul 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It does sound a touch like the front office can't win with the media at times. Previously the critiscm was that there's no process, they're railroading to Reddick too quickly, without due process, and by now the accusation is that they've taken too long, dithered around, which is being dubbed as indecision.

    Pelinka messed this one up too. He's an awful GM. Coaching turnover every 2 years. Roster turnover every single offseason. Zero team continuity or chemistry. The Westbrook trade was a bad decision from the start. Everyone seemed to see that, BUT Pelinka. Not resigning Caruso. Trading Kuz. Getting FLEECED in EVERY SINGLE TRADE by better, more experienced GMs. Just an unmitigated disaster as a GM in every way..
    Lakers hired a GM with ZERO experience and it's led to the Lakers becoming a joke. Now Pelinka is hiring a coach with ZERO experience. In 3 years, when Lebron retires and the Lakers have literally no viable young players to build around, this team will be irrelevant and will be a perennial Lottery team for the next decade and due to Pelinka's ineptitude.

    Let me ask you a question. Can you tell me any other team that showed any type of activity or interest around hiring Reddick? Okay, another question. Is there any other coaching candidate that showed active interest in the Lakers job? The answer to both of those is no. That tells you a lot.

  • @logicalbrother

    Andy when you feel you need to explain AD stature it's over.Lebron will end up leading the team in pts and assists at 40 again because AD soft.He the same dude Shaq and Barkley was laughing at for being in a wheelchair.He just not that dude...75% of his pts come from bunnies and oops from LBJ passes. He's no Hakeem you can give the ball to on the post constantly.Funny how AD keep fooling Laker fans every yr...if he the leader of your team you not winning

    • @LockedOnLakers
      @LockedOnLakers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I don't personally agree with your overall assessment of AD (and FWIW, he scored more total points than LeBron, despite averaging fewer attempts per game and essentially no threes), but in certain respects, it doesn't even matter whether we agree. Everything you're saying about AD may (or may not) be true, but the fact remains, the way this team is currently constructed, he is their best, most important player. That's the setup. You know what I mean? It's hard to dispute. What to do with that is a different question, but them's still the facts. Appreciate you watching. AK

    • @logicalbrother
      @logicalbrother 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LockedOnLakers LBJ shot 1 more attempt per game than AD🤷 Does Luka taking 5 more attempts per game than LBJ make him better?? I mean the numbers say LBJ way more efficient than Luka in field goal percentage to the 3ball yet being less ball dominant than Luka. Is Luka better??...he will never make an all defensive team like other greats.You can't just say someone is better when the numbers and respect around the league say other wise

    • @LockedOnLakers
      @LockedOnLakers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@logicalbrother You’re missing my point. I never said LeBron taking more shots per game made him better or worse than AD. I brought it up because you originally made it sound like LeBron was carrying a much greater scoring lift above AD’s, and that’s not really true. Their scoring is essentially identical on the season. And your LeBron/Luka comp is just a strawman argument, because I never claimed that “higher FGA = greater player.” I was simply pointing out how the amount of shots you take will affect your total points scored on the season, which is just obvious and hard to dispute.
      If you don’t agree with me that AD is the better, more important player on the Lakers than LeBron at this stage of their respective careers, then fine. Don’t agree with me. Disagreement is great. But you’re not gonna disprove me by shooting down points I never made in the first place.

      I’m not trying to find “drama.” I’m looking at a decade-plus long history. To me, it doesn’t read like the commitment I find necessary given their history. As I said, in a vacuum, the contract is fine. But when it comes to the Lakers and coaches, life ain’t a vacuum. Context matters. A lot. Appreciate you watching. AK

    Not a fan of this hire unless it is primarily for the post LeBron era.
    The Lakers always go for the splashy hire when good and competent is probably all you need to be successful, case in point Frank Vogel who was their fourth choice.
    The last big swing like Luke didn't work out.
    Personally, I don't think the Lakers should have even considered candidates who didn't have head coaching experience.
    I was against the Ham hiring last time and thought Stotts would have been a much better option.
    Heck, Scott Brooks would be a better win now option.
    My only hope is that they are invested in JJ and ride this out even if the next two years are a mess.
