    I already work in the industry. Python, sql, and Microsoft products like excel are used more in the real world from my experience so I'm doing IBM since looking for a job isn't really a problem for me, more like finding good up to date educational resources to improve myself. I will do Googles right after though.

    I really like the fast track option google offers, so you could Take the IBM course and learn everything plus some python then skip everything you already know in the google course and still benefit from their job preparation. Having a set price per month and not per course could help you do both pretty fast if you were motivated.

    I did the trial lessons on both, and IBM won me over. I personally dislike the Google‘s teaching style of having people talking to me, it’s just too much of talking 😂 I like the IBM approach; straight to the point. I agree with you. I am switching to the IBM course.

    • @laverdadbuscador
      @laverdadbuscador ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. Googles course has wayyyyy too much fluff and bounces all over the place. They're trying to keep it exciting, but really they're just making it annoying.
      The IBM course is less fluff and flow is easy to follow step by step instructions.
      I do plan on going back to the Google one once im done with the IBM one.....but Im very much preferring the way IBM did it. Google was hard to follow.
      I felt like it was constantly like...
      "Just for fun write down some things you did to get ready this morning.....you don't really need to, it's just for fun". - Cupid Cartmans voice
      A couple of weeks later it's like:
      (Upload the morning routine spreadsheet you've been having fun with.....oh yeah, just kidding you were required to do it we lied). - Cupid Cartmans voice
      Arg was very frustrating.
      The over done acting was like watching some over the top TED talk or something. Not my jam.....bro I'm here because it already excites me, you don't need to give me motivation speeches every 5 mins.
      The people on the IBM video seem way more genuine and to the point.

    Thanks Luke. I breezed through the first 3 courses in this certificate and felt super confident I could nail this in a couple of months time. I must admit it got super hard from course 4 - Python for Data Science, AI & Development. The learning curve is exponential. Each of those 7-15 min videos took me 4-5 hours to complete with contact pauses-plays. The Python in this course is definitely not for beginners. I completed the 4th course just for the sake of it but I don't believe I have mastered any of the skills. Maybe I'm not cut out for this program and should start from ground zero like CompTia ITF+ or Google IT Support or Google Data Analytics. But data analysis/science is something I would wish to pursue

      @@imaginarystranger1974 💯The student debt crisis the US is facing is predicated on the fact that student loan debt is not dischargeable via bankruptcy, which means they've got people on the hook for life. This leads to a predatory lending model, because they would be dumb to NOT get as many starry-eyed 18 year olds as possible to sign up for student loans.
      This in turn leads to vast amounts of money swirling around in the system which leads to a predatory pricing model at universities, because they would be dumb to NOT snap up as much of that money as possible from all those starry-eyed 18 year olds.
      However, the money that is snapped up by the universities really doesn't go towards student education, it goes towards football teams, stadiums, luxury fitness centers, higher pay for administrative management, etc.
      Look at it this way: since 1990, average tuition and fee rates have increased 130% after adjusting for inflation. A 130% increase! Now ask yourselves why that is? Does anyone really think that universities have increased the qualities of their educational offerings by 130%? Doubtful. It's just a money grab.
      Anyway, that's a really long and roundabout way of saying that I totally agree with you. 😅

      R is an ok tool for one-off data analysis, individual projects and stuff like that. However, when it comes to bigger companies where there are Data Engineers, Data Analysts and ML/DL Engineers they all need to use one common language to understand what they're doing (more or less), deploy pipelines and other stuff. That's where Python is coming into play and that's why it's popular. Whether or not you should know Java/Scala depends on what you would like to do in the future - the only scenario would be if your organization is relying heavily on Spark and you like more a backend kind of job (pays well but not much recognition from the top brass compared even to DA's). And knowing Java well is a great skill on it's own in IT. Spark is a great tool as well - I never hear about it being mentioned in videos for DA's but so many times in companies people are working with data sets so big that it takes so much time to complete (I don't see your average DA using threading or jit to speed up the Python code unfortunately, some at least know a thing or two about numpy) due to hardware constraints and with Spark you can accomplish the same work in no time. Additionally it has a really low entrance point for those who analyze data mainly in Python thanks to the great Python API and they can make a visable effect with just minimal training in pyspark.

    Excellent and VERY useful video. Thank you for your time. I think I would choose Google certificate, (I hope to be the right decision considering the amount of time to be invested 240hs). Kind regards,

      Yeah thats why I made this video. It's a SIGNIFICANT time investment so you need to be informed. Thanks again my dude!

    Thank you so much for these videos. I was not aware of these programs only boot camps and LinkedIn learning. The boot camps are just not affordable with my income at the moment.

    Would it be wise to complete both so you get to learn both R and python?

    • @LukeBarousse
      @LukeBarousse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't know if I would recommend that. A lot of repetitive information. You would be better suited to pick one... and then go for a course specializing in only teaching R or Python

      @@LukeBarousse oh ok thanks.
      Any recommended courses for Python? Since im most likely to start the google one.

    Would you recommend these certificates over a traditional degree? I just want to analyze data and ride bikes!

    • @LukeBarousse

      SAME! I just want to analyze data and ride bikes too!! Def think that a combo of certificates and degrees is the perfect mix!

    I think you should compare the ibm data science professional certificate, which is a really nice program existed for a much longer time. So many people learned and registered and benefit from it. The ibm data analyst program is newer and not that popular at all! I think the fair comparison is the ibm data science(not analyst) prog and the Google one.

      Thanks for this Wei! I actually did look into initially doing this video on the IBM data science certificate. However I felt that it was better to compare these two certificates in the video as they have the end goal of training you to become a data analyst. The IBM data science cert (although older and has more enrolled) is more general to data science and not aimed as much at this end-goal. Also when comparing the two IBM offerings they both had some very similiar content.

      @@LukeBarousse Actually it seems that there aren't too much differences. The data science's course has only two more chapters: tools for data science (Hadoop, Spark, ecc.) and "Machine Learning with Python")
