Hi Mae, what did you think after you installed garlic?
11:30 it's a feature from version 1. A single push on power will save your current game state and immediately shutdown the device. Long press power and you're back into where you've left within a very few seconds. Garlic OS boots so fast (7s on the RG35XX) that it's more efficient to just fully shutdown rathe than leaving the device on sleep. Had to comment since I personally do love that feature. Great videos!

My 2nd Anbernic that I just won the bid on eBay. Love the Vertical layout. My 1st Anbernic is the blue metal rg353m which I bought used on marketplace for $50 in mint. I like it but I prefer the vertical rg35xx plus that reminds me of my gameboy.

Hi, has anyone encountered such an issue? I have the RG35XX version. I chose to change the system on the original included card, and garlic os is installed by default. After that, the console is bricked. I tried installing other system versions on different cards, but it doesn't boot up.
when you insert the second sd card in the tf2 slot the first time after putting all we need to install garlicos, do u have the original sd card inside the first slot?
Yup.
@baldlyrudy I plug that second card for the first time and boot it once. It works but when I remove it from TF2slot and plug it again to computer (to add the games), I only have 3 folders: Library, Retroarch and boot folder I dont have any roms folder. what should I do with it?
The games go into the library folder. Drop some in there and see if that works.

So i follow all these steps. get everything on the right SD card, make the correct folders, extract the correct zip etc, but when i boot i still get Stoc OS and not Garlic?
After installing the files on the second as card, it won’t turn on at all. Tried to reset a couple times with no luck.

Nope. AFAIK, Garlic OS 2.0 is only compatible with the Plus and H versions of the RG35XX. The original is compatible with Garlic OS 1.0.
I did everything like you but once i'm in garlic os, each time i go to a menu the console turns off. Do you have a solution?

You can copy over everything to a new card, but you'd need those files in slot 1. You can use the SD card that came with the handheld. The new SD card goes into slot 2.

Yup. All you have to do is update the bootloader.
Question.. Have you experienced adding roms then the device wont turn on after? Because I recieved my rg35xx today, played for about an hour, added a couple roms (using original sd provided, under the FC folder) and now wont turn on or even charge.
Not exactly, but I have experienced something similar.
First and foremost, you should be able to charge the unit no matter what. Try a different adapter and even a different cable.
Second, while installing Garlic OS 2.0, I had issues getting the unit to boot. I tried everything. Eventually, I tried all sorts of button combinations to boot it up. At the end, just pushing the power button a few times finally got it to post.
Adding ROMs to the FC folder shouldn't affect the boot sequence.
Worse comes to worse, you can reflash the card with all the same files on a new microSD card. Anbernic has all those files on their site.

When you charged it you didn't using a new plug I hope. You have to use a 1.0a charger and the fast chargers rely on your device having built in support this doesn't have it and will break your device. Use a low amp charger.
@@JadMock is that so? Normally a phone wich doesn't have fast charging simply use less amp from a fast charger. How did it come tha they didn't build in this normal feature? I mean it would be dangerous. A too fast charged lipo can burn of you are unlucky.
Any one knows how to change the time and date? Everytime I exit it returns to the wrong time and date.
Hello, my rgxx35 + doesn't boot on garlic OS. I followed all the steps, when i turn it on i see it boots 2 times so probably trying to boot on TF2 but it doesn't work after all it boots on anbernic and not garlic. Do you have any idea why ?
Can you dual boot between original OS and Garlic? if I want to swap back and forth? Im just trying to add some PS1 games before I go to vegas and I want to put them on a second card for now, eventually i replace the boot SD card but for now im not touching it lol
Yeah. All you have to do is reboot the handheld without the second microSD card. It'll boot in the stock OS, but without your saves from Garlic OS. But you should be able to move the files over if needed.
@@baldlyrudy hey awesome that helped and worked! Now I need to figure out if I can take save files from retroarch on my steamdeck and use them on retroarch on the rg35xx+. I'm so far into Earthbound only took me 30 years and I CANT start it over again for the 100th time. Im assuming I can either use the SNES save file or the save files retroarch creates if you choose to save through the APP instead of the game.

HELP! I did exactly like what you taught but my device is stuck at the anbernic loading screen and froze. rechecked everything in sd1 and sd2 and all files are in the correct location. then i deleted the files 3 files and 1 folder from the root folder of sd1, removed sd2 in hopes that i can boot it up normally but now my devices only stuck at loading screen. How??
That could mean a bunch of different things. You may have a corrupted GarlicOS, the card may be failing, or something else. I had someone recently comment that they did the same things and ended up with a corrupted GarlicOS file. They went with MinUI instead.

Yup. That's a way of saving your game.
Hello, I search to have a good OS for play with NDS games. I have the RG35xx plus but with the stock OS is not possible to use the touch pad. It is possible with Garlic OS?
Not yet. No. Garlic OS is still in alpha.

In you previous review you seemed to favour the miyoo plus over the 35xx. Would you still favour the miyoo plus over the new 35xx plus?
In its current state, I'd still recommend the Miyoo Mini Plus. The custom OS of the Miyoo Mini Plus (Onion OS), is way better than Garlic OS 2.0. That being said, if you're okay with how the RG35XX Plus or H are, then yeah.
I have to be missing something.. I've done every step and i'm only getting BOOT, ROMS, and SAVE but not what you have (missing library and retroarch)... Please help I am so frustrated :(
so confused between stock os, retroarch and garlic os... what does each do?? is the stock os that bad? just got the device today and dont know where to start! lol
As of right now, the Stock OS is the better bet because of the lack of GPU support. The custom OS would unlock features that aren't in the stock OS.

Nope. Supported devices are Anbernic 405M, 405V, RG35XX Plus, RG35XXH, and the Retroid Pocket 2+.
When you install this OS, does it come with any games or we need to download them all?
You need to download them.
Is Garlic OS 2.0 the only custom OS that allows save state and sleep, then reboot and load state? That's the only important feature to me that really depends on which custom OS I install on it

I have the RG35XX since about a week now, great device but the software is kinda bad tbh, in the game rooms GB and GBC games have stutters for an unknown reason and there is basically no options to configure video to your liking.
I tried the retroarch option, a LOT better on everything but i have sometimes big issues for no clear reason, GB and GBC roms suddenly stops working (white or black screen in retroarch only, works in game rooms but bad performance) and sometimes it works again after few retroarch.cfg reset / device reset + removal of SD cards, sometimes not and i'm forced to flash everything to new in order to make it work again for a certain amount of time.
Tried Garlic OS but exact same problem, it seems it comes from the retroarch software in the TF1.
The problem is present on the original TF1 SD card with the original software, and with the newest official release on a quality card (Sandisk Extreme).

The switcher is pretty similar, but as of right now Onion OS is smoother. Garlic OS 2.0 is on its alpha stage.

Do you need to be on the same network to enjoy multi-player on Galicia OS?
As of right now, there's no Wi-Fi capabilities in the alpha release. Hopefully the next update will have that.
I also want to say that I'd imagine that you would need to be in the same network. I'm assuming that it'll run using Netplay through RetroArch, but we won't know until it's released.
I'm calling it Galicia OS from now on now. I love it!

I see you have files in .7z format and I wouldn't expect those to work.

@@baldlyrudy The timestamp has 7zip files which have a very different compression and decompression algorithm compared to regular zip. I've ran regular zip files on the older 35xx, just awaiting the 35xx H. Would seem like a weird step back.
@NishithThakkar would be weird indeed. I have the RG35XXH and it's definitely geared more towards playing PS One and Dreamcast titles. And it feels natural to hold. I have a video coming of the RG353V next. Just need to find the time to record. 😅

I'm eventually going to get a New 3DS XL and mod it to play 3DS and DS games, and eventually a Steam Deck for every other emulation types
This is the way.
For original DS games, a DSi or lite is better if you don't want stretching. I think the only systems not worth emulating without really specific hardware are the 3DS and DS just because of the dual screen thing.

Garlic OS is fantastic ... On the original 35XX. It will be a few months before this is ready on the plus and H models.
I'm on the fence here, contemplating whether to buy the Plus or the Powkiddy RGB30. My primary goal is to have a device that allows me to play a wide range of games, extending up to the PS1 era. The key differentiator for me now is not only the screen size but also the overall size of the handheld.
I have large hands and find this hard to hold for long periods of time. The I really wish I had gotten a bigger unit. Now, I also got this to use as a “console”. I am hooking it up to an hdmi via an hdmi mini to hdmi adapter and using a Xbox Series X controller. Its amazing as a console.
Dude, I had both models. Even though the plus is really cool, the rgb30 screen is incredible, I haven't seen anything like it on these cheap consoles.
my experience with the RGB30 was baaaad. I really wanted to like it, but it just had this cheapy feeling build and the buttons were very rattly and my hdmi connectivity never worked right and the bluetooth connectivity was spotty. i gave it a shot for a week and then sent it back. I did like the screen for gb, gbc, and pico 8 games, but i play more gba titles, so the ratio wasn't ideal for that system.
that said, i am struggling with the stock os for the rg35xx plus. the interface is really just blech compared to my miyoo mini plus, so i'm really hoping the stable version of Garlic OS 2 comes out soon. the screen, sound, buttons, and dpad are nice on the rg35xx plus and the wifi and bluetooth work as they should, so it gets my vote every time over the rgb30. I'm more of a fan of the aesthtics of the buttons on the bottom of the screen too, since i'm really into rpgs and it allows for one handed play.
hope this gives a bit prospective in your decision making.
I would get the Rg35xx H. same chip set and easier on the hands and pocketable plus joysticks.
So, after careful consideration, I've decided to go with the reliable option of the Miyoo Mini Plus. In a couple of years, I might revisit the market to explore newer, more powerful options. Also, since I have a Steam Deck, I'll typically reserve more powerful games for that platform.

No. None of them need Garlic OS to run.

Nope. None of them can run on Garlic OS 2.0 right now, AFAIK. Without the GPU functionality, it can't run at all. I don't think Black Seraph has released an update yet to Garlic OS 2.0 to address that.

Funnily enough, yes. It got recently updated to support the SP.

Hmm...that didn't happen in either of my units. Maybe drop a rom in the ROMs folder, reboot the device, and see if the rest of the folders populate. Let me know if that works. It is in Alpha, so I don't expect things to go flawlessly.

You can also get a new card and try again with Garlic OS 2.0.
This is why I am still choosing the Miyoo Mini+ over this because the RG35XX isn't there yet without custom OS. Feels incomplete.
The miyoo feels stable because of the onionOS.
I would say the RG35XX Plus and H don't feel complete. But one of the things that I didn't like about the original RG35XX was the lack of WiFi when compared to the Miyoo Mini +.
I LOVE the MM+ with Onion OS, but the lack of GPU shows a bit. It doesn't matter too much for me because I prefer 16-bit titles, but if I want to play PS One or Dreamcast, then I'm out of luck.
@@baldlyrudy That's why I would rather wait for a stable OS release first before getting the RG35XX+. So, I think the Miyoo Mini+ is perfect for now. Besides, I only play up to PS1 with my fave jrpgs.

@@baldlyrudy Don't worry I also haven't played Final Fantasy Tactics yet 😅 My favorite would be Suikoden II. I replayed multiple times already. It's fun recruiting 100+ playable characters with multiple possible endings. Story rich kind of game.

Yes. It's the same chipset so it should work, but it's still in Alpha the last time I checked.
i have it, stock, and the same game you played yoshi, is terrible with the stock emulator, because sometimes, from time to time if you enter a pipe it will reset the game. and i am using a good brand SD card with a good downloaded rom collection
I installed the OS on the main SD card, but the garlic does not start.
From my understanding, that's not how Garlic OS 2.0 works. You have the bootloader installed into the second card.
I know garlic OS 1.0 had the option for a single card install, but it doesn't run on the RG35XX.

@vityz123 start from scratch. Grab the firmware from Anbernic and start again. win.anbernic.com/download/
You don't need to do much with the card in the first slot. Most everything happens in slot two.

I installed everything according to the same steps as in your video.
1. Downloaded the bootloader, uploaded it to TF1/init where the original firmware is located.
2. I created a boot folder in the TF2/EXT flash card, I sent init there, deleted Txt and sent armhf-rootfs.7z there
3. I inserted 2 flash cards, the Anberniс screensaver appears but then turns off, but if you remove the card from the TF2/EXT slot, everything starts. But only original firmware.
Stock OS or Garlic OS 2?
Right now, the better bet is Stock OS because of the GPU functionality. Garlic OS 2.0 hasn't been updated since January. I'm guessing an update will be out soon. There are other OS's that are out there that work well.

I've got the RG35XX H, really hope they release a bespoke GarlicOS for it, as the stock is awful, doesnt seem to be anyway to add my Amiga library!

Just use stock for rg35xx plus...dont install bat or garlic ...thats the summary....also garlic 2.0 makes the battery drain way too fast....just use the stock and flash ur base sd card ( given together with the console) into a branded sd card ( samsung).....flash the external one as a lot of report saying its prone to fail and corrupt(after getting ur new sd card first format to fat32 > load inside console >open the console and just scroll through it > close the console after that then just reinsert into ur sd card reader and ur game file will be inside the sd card > start copying games into > reinsert into console > for now dont use any of the os as currently both batocera and garlic drains way too much (also causing some framedrop) and the base os for rg35xx plus is way too good already ...just avoid sleep mode too...

Bluetooth, screen brightness, wifi… yeah think ill just leave it for now.
