@soaremicheledavid6020 if you prefer Onion OS, then by all means stick with Miyoo Mini/Pus. I think it's a great handheld. ( th-cam.com/video/T4xbUGlUgEI/w-d-xo.html ) You and I both know that as of right now, that Onion OS is not going to go to the RG35XX/Plus/H. The GPU is working just fine with the Stock OS on the RG35XX Plus. With RetroArch, I get all the functionality that I need to play the games that I want. That being said, I do agree that you shouldn't buy anything on the promise of a future update.
Just ordered mine it’ll be here tomorrow I can’t wait. And plus my GF and I are having a baby so this will be perfect when we’re in the hospital for a few days.
I am not biggest retro handheld guy but this little guy seems perfect just to have as a sidekick. Plus a price that matches basically what the original gameboy cost in the 90s it's a no brainer.
I saw this handheld and ordered it straight away, afterwards i saw your video about it and found out that i ordered the right version (thankfully). cant wait playing childhood bangers again
Happy to hear that you suggest sticking with the stock OS, at least for now, as I’m not versed in the emulating world and wish to have a seamless experience. Thanks, Rudy!
You're welcome! I was under the impression that Garlic OS 2.0 would be so much of a better experience, so I was definitely surprised to recommend the stock OS.
I have a Miyoo Mini Plus and love it because of Onion OS but no HDMI port and bluetooth in it.This handheld will shine when a stable version of garlic OS is released. BTW I just ordered a RG35XX H , same spec just horizontal format.
I love Onion OS as a whole. It's so dang good. I ordered my RG35XXH a few days ago. I'm excited to try out the joysticks and see how they feel. I do agree that a better version of Garlic OS will really make this handheld shine.
Hello, I have a few questions because I'm new to this. 1. What Pokemon games does the RG35XX Plus come with? Does it come with all titles from Fire Red to Ultra Sun and Moon? 2. Should you replace the original SD? I read that most people tend to replace it, and if you buy the additional 128SD, it breaks easily. 3. How do you install rom hacks onto the RG35XX Plus? I want to play fan-made Pokemon games as well. 4. Does it matter if I but it from China or the US? If someone can please help me out, that would be greatly appreciated.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. 1. It comes with all of them up to the GB Advance, if I remember correctly. 2. Yes. The cards are pretty bad UNLESS they're from Kioxia, which is a subsidiary of Toshiba. My RG353V came with one and I haven't had issues with it. But I always recommend SanDisk or Samsung cards. 3. It's as easy as dragging and dropping. When you put the microSD card in the computer, you'll see the directory. Its all organized by platform. Drop the files where in their corresponding platform. 4. China takes longer. That's about it. If you're unsure and want a tad more buyer protection, then go with a US store like Amazon. As long as it's Prone, you can return it if it's defective. If you buy from China, then it's up in the air. Though, I will say that AliExpress has been good to me when it comes to customer service. I hope these answered your questions. Thanks for watching, btw. 🙌
@baldyrudy What do you do if it's not turning on? I have the RG35XX+ and I copied all the files from the original micro SD to a new 64GB one and now the device doesn't seem to be turning on. Do you have any advice?
If you're having issues, then maybe the better route would be to get the system up to date and flashed onto the card. You can try using Rufus to flash the new card. Here's Anbernic's firmware: win.anbernic.com/download/
Yup. I'll get one up sometime next week. But it's like I said in the video, Garlic OS is still somewhat half baked. It's in a public alpha, so I hope it gets updated soon.
little info for the potential buyers; out of the box, (i bought the one with 128g) out of the almost 10k games preinstalled, there is not a single mario game on board. nor are there n64 titles. so these you gotta install yourself... kinda blows my mind he did not mention that...
That's a fair point. I haven't run into a handheld like this that has any Mario game installed. It seems like most of these companies shy away from that single IP, because there's still Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, etc. I'll keep that in mind for future videos. Thanks.
Yeah. That's really what I want. The PS One/N64/Dreamcast era seems to be more than taken care of. I'm looking at the RG405M and it runs great. The RG405V is basically the same thing, but in a vertical format. Regardless, it's still really cool overall that we can play these games on the go.
First minute of the video and I already feel like I know everything that you think about this device. It's really cool to not have to wait 5 minutes just for the video to start being interesting.
I was actually very disappointed in mine. I already had the original 35XX so I was really excited to get the new upgraded one but it still doesn’t play anything after PS1 well at all, so I don’t see much of the point of getting this one. It plays n64 like crap, It plays Dreamcast like crap and at low resolutions and the one thing it can do that the original 35XX can’t is I can play PS1 upscaled, but that’s about it. I do like the new shoulder buttons, though. Don’t get me wrong you still may as well just get the new one because the prices is so close but man this upgrade was pretty pointless to me.
I really want to play some old Gameboy, GBA and SNES Games. Like early Pokémon, Mario, Sonic…No need for PS One etc. Would you recommend the Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS over this?
Yes! If you don't plan on going past the 16-bit era, then go with the Miyoo Mini Plus. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/T4xbUGlUgEI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CHNUqHnkLpJjqhaK
Is the 'upgrade' to garlicOS 2.0 worth the extra effort? Is saw from your other video about garlicOS on the rg35xx+ that n64 for example didn't work. Also do game packs like 'tiny best set go' work by just dragging and dropping? Referring to what you said about always unzipping the roms (in the pack the roms are all zipped and they say it should work by just dragging and dropping) Thanks!! Love from the Netherlands!
@baldlyrudy I’m loving it, and have my own curated list installed. Any recommendations for pairing a controller? I have a few options, Xbox 360 controller, Dual sense or Nintendo Switch controllers
Nice! Glad you're enjoying yourself. I prefer 8BitDo Ultimate or GuliKit King Kong 2 Pro. Both are great and offer versatility. But if you don't have either, I'd go with Xbox for it. Either way, they're all good.
HI I almost purchased the RG35XX today from aliexpress, Thanks for the video , I going to save a bit more money and get the Plus version , and i gave you a sub, from the UK thanks
100% depends on the games that you're planning on playing. The Miyoo Mini Plus is great for everything up to PS One. It struggles with some titles, but overall it's solid. Everything after that would most likely run better in the RG35XX Plus.
The only issue I'm having is to enable the retroachievements pop-ups when we start the game and say of recognized the game or not... I run for all the reddit trying to get this answer with no luck =/ Until I can get this done, I'm still using my Miyoo Mini + 😅
IMO the Miyoo Mini Plus is a better device due to Onion and easy installation. The RG35XX does not do a good job with Dreamcast or N64, so might as well have a device with better OS that plays the same games well.
That's fair if you're not looking into N64, Dreamcast, or PSP. I will say that my order of the RG35XXH is on its way. I can't wait to test that one out with a it's twin stick layout.
Love this handheld but can’t do much more with it without joysticks. Other than WiFi and Bluetooth not a lot of gain here with this hardware. The RG35XX-H makes far more sense with this processor.
Question as I haven’t seen it anywhere besides just a one video online. Is the screen bent on the edges and that’s the reason all screen protectors just don’t stick there?
@@baldlyrudy well yes. The question is if the screen protector is the size of the whole screen with the curved frame or it is the size of the only flat screen inside without the frame? I hope you know what I mean 😅
@misiopuchatek152 oh! Sorry. Totally misunderstood you there. It only covers the flat part of the screen. There's roughly about 2mm of space between the end of the screen protector and the edge of the curved screen. It's not much, but it's there.
Hey man, are they really working on garlic for the 35xxH? That would be awesome if my order ever leaves china anyway. Recently got into the handheld retro scene and your videos have been a great help to share some history with my kids. Thank you.
Hey man! You're welcome. And yes, Garlic OS 2.0 is already out for the RG35XXH. But I fear it will probably have the same lack of GPU support. My handheld is currently in Germany, so I'm hoping it gets here soon. I want to check it out, but I'm expecting a similar experience as the RG35XX Plus. Glad I could help dude. 🙌
Warning to anyone who is going to purchase the rg35xx plus. The shoulder buttons or "triggers" are not very good at holding. You have to put a fair bit of pressure on them or else it won't register. And when you press down on them, slightly raising your finger will unregister the input. The shoulder buttons are not micro switches and are of poor quality.
That's a very valid warning. I haven't experienced that on my unit. Sounds like you may have bad unit, which I'm not surprised at all about. Have you tried returning it? Also, to anyone else reading this that has the RG35XX Plus, have you experienced this?
Mine didn't come with n64 and I can't find the classic super mario bros although it's the 128gb variant. Don't have much experience, so what should I do?
I found video very helpful, but showing clips of Super Mario Brothers is a little misleading. Perhaps you could (or maybe have on other videos, I don’t know) mention Mario Brother and Super Mario Brothers is not pre installed right out of the box. Again, this is not a complaint, you have a very nice channel, I have only just discovered it, and I just got my RG35xx plus.
I’m genuinely curious, how is it that you can call this the best retro handheld when it plays N64 and PS1, yet has no sticks to support the analogue games on the systems? I’m not personally a fan of the trigger set up on this unit, but that’s a minor personal preference that I can easily overlook considering the otherwise stellar form factor. I just can’t commit to a handheld that can play 32 and 64 bit games but has no sticks. Gotta play my Rogue Squadron. 😊
The RG35XX (the original one) was heralded as the best bang for your buck experience. And by many, it's considered the best retro gaming handheld. Yes, it lacks thumb sticks. The N64 joystick is mapped out to the D-Pad. If you're looking for a handheld at a similar price point and need to have joysticks, then I'd recommend the RG35XXH. I haven't gotten mine to do a video on yet, but the specs are practically identical.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I ended up going with the Retroid Pocket 2S because it ticked every single box for me, but I was very very close to pulling the trigger on one of these. Still, it seems like it would be perfect for everything up to SNES and I may end up grabbing one at some point just to enjoy another form factor now and then.
@@xerxestelevision6666 oh yeah. I get that. I've got my first Retroid Pocket coming in the mail. I ordered the 4 Pro for a video. Hopefully it gets here soon-ish. But yeah, the RG35XX Plus can handle 16-bit with ease. I was honestly surprised what you could do on that little thing.
Great Device but the Stock OS without Updates worst Restro Handheld OS i ever bought..Battery Draining,Roms on the Stock SD dont run,Device dont shut down complete so next Day the Battery is empty,Heating Battery,etc... In Forums you see so much complains from Users about the Stock OS.Yes with the Updates(yes you must do 3 Updates to solve the Problems!) this is really a great Device. But why WiFi when you cant do the Updates via WIFI(you need a PC and must Flash new Firmware!!!),no Scraper for Box Arts,Wifi only for Netplay. For me this with the Stock OS without Updates not for Beginners, buy a Miyoo Mini Plus way easier Experiance for Noobs into all the Rom/Emulation Thing and with Onion OS you get the Best OS on a Handheld and its so easy to install.
Honestly don't mind it personally as I don't spend a ton of time In the UI overall but couldn't agree more on how hideous it is lol. Anbernic UI's need an overhaul bad
@@baldlyrudycan you get the Bluetooth to work well? I’m struggling to get it to connect to a ps5 controller and most annoyingly I can’t get it to connect to Bluetooth headphones at all. Feedback from yourself and the community would be really appreciated

@danielcornelissen2569 glad to hear it.
My miyoo literally never works when i try connecting to my wifi even with the right password so nun of that matters to me anyway
Mine didn't come with n64 and I can't find the classic super mario bros although it's the 128gb variant. Don't have much experience, so what should I do?
Go to Google and search for the ROM that you need.
I found video very helpful, but showing clips of Super Mario Brothers is a little misleading. Perhaps you could (or maybe have on other videos, I don’t know) mention Mario Brother and Super Mario Brothers is not pre installed right out of the box. Again, this is not a complaint, you have a very nice channel, I have only just discovered it, and I just got my RG35xx plus.
help, i can't control the psp emulator, i closed it, when setting my controller.
Mine is discharging so much even turn off.😢
Hmmm....maybe something that they fixed with updates.
Are the games pre downloaded?
Yes.
THE CAT HAS RETURNED
Is the audio jack mono only? I'm only hearing the left side of my earphones.
That might be a defective unit. I just tried two different headphones and they both worked just fine. Do you have another pair to test out?
i have connected my controller once, now it no longer connecting, any suggestions?😢
Reset the connection, reboot the handheld, or connect the controller to something else and reconnect it to the handheld again.
Some people want the form factor of the original gameboy. A joystick like they had on the 3ds would be nice on the left side though
How do you get super mario?
Is it pre loaded game ?
Nope. Gotta find it online. Just Google "the game you're looking for" and ROM and you should be fine.
Why not add $6 more for a joystick for N64 emulation???
Are you talking about a specific handheld?
Whats the name of the shooting game you playing on it in your intro 🙏🙏🙏
At 00:20? That's Metroid: Zero Mission from Gameboy Advance.
@@baldlyrudy thanks
@keacydebayo9365 no problem.
its only 38 on aliexpress
Yeah,I was able to just pick one up for 37 bucks free shipping. Great deal.
You sir are a legend, thanks a million for assisting us with this information!💪🤓
How would I go about updating the stock OS?
Anyone know when the retroid 4 pros should arrive in U.S.?
Nope. I'm waiting right there with you. 😮💨
What is the apps option at 9:41 and what is it for
@@Thatorangejuiceguy118 you can have android apps youtube streaming services and stuff like that.
Wish it could do Pico 8 natively. :(
mine died after 5 days.... so buyers beware....
Damn. Where did you buy it?
Mario64 is a 30fps game, no wonder it doesn't hit 60 on your device xd
That'll do it. I never had an N64 until recently, so all the times I've played it have been through things like Steam Deck and PC. 😅
is it a "gaaaaame channnnger"? LMAO
😂😂😂
Garlic OS will take years, that's why my advice is don't buy this device. Stock OS is so ugly and annoying.
What makes you think it's gonna take years?
Honestly don't mind it personally as I don't spend a ton of time In the UI overall but couldn't agree more on how hideous it is lol. Anbernic UI's need an overhaul bad
Dont buy if you think so 😂😂
@bpultra8357 my thoughts exactly. Lol
@@baldlyrudycan you get the Bluetooth to work well? I’m struggling to get it to connect to a ps5 controller and most annoyingly I can’t get it to connect to Bluetooth headphones at all. Feedback from yourself and the community would be really appreciated
not until garlic 2.0 comes out.
It's reported to already be in the works, no reason not to get if youre already inerested. For me personally, i prefer horizontal handhelds, im just waiting for my 35XX H to get into my hands. :)
Exactly. It'll be cheaper by then too
I mean, technically Garlic OS 2.0 is already out in the wild. 13:00
@@baldlyrudywell dayum. Didnt even know it was already out. Thanks man!
@@baldlyrudy I mean, technically it's still in Alpha and there is a whole /r/RG35XX community on Reddit saying that the Plus upgrade was not yet as wise an idea as reviewers on YT were frothing about. You are welcome.
