    I appreciate you! I’ve only had my mower for 1.5 years and was getting frustrated and was ready to take it to have someone repair it. You have a gift in explaining the correct process on what to look for, and have a great personality. I was able to fix my mower in one try and it’s working better than ever. I’m not a great handyman, but you’ve given me more confidence that I can do things myself! Thank you sir!

    Seriously I want to buy you a beer. I was frustrated for 2 days with the fucking lawnmower until I calmed down and started browsing came across your video. I didn't do the rebuild because my lawn mower is 2 years old and it would not start after a full tune up.I got the jet out and cleared it from the carb and bammm..... one pull and shit fires right up. This gave me a huge insight on carburetor for lawn mowers and it made my night. Thanks for sharing

    Really appreciate the video and I checked all this but upon reassembly I noticed that the throttle cable on mine wasn't moving the carbie levers at all. If I manually move the lever on the back of the engine that controls the wire directly on the carbie it works fine so my issue appears to be the cable isn't moving lever properly. Ran out of time to investigate further but I learnt a lot so thanks!!!

    At 6:40 minutes the white plastic piece being remove is called a cartage and can be replaced with a new cartage. Also the cartage comes apart, two pieces. They more or less pull apart, might need a very small flat blade screwdriver to pry apart. Both pieces can be cleaned and one of the two parts has jets which should be cleaned. These jets usually clog due to using old gas, contaminated /dirty fuel or fuel varnish / corrosion build-up.

    It`s a really detailed tutorial... We have the same "piece of plastic" on our Toro mower. Can you tell whether this carby can be adjusted or cleaned only? There is no doubt, the engine runs on very rich mix... To fix this, we have to change petrol/air ratio. It can be done easy on metal carburetors by special screws. This plastic one do3esn`t have any visible screws. So, how to change the ratio?... Thank you

    • @jcx2bby
      @jcx2bby  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As far as I know all the mixture and metering adjustments are long gone on these little carbs. Sometimes you can adjust carbs on 2-cycle engines, but the 4 strokes....that ability is gone.

    • @alexanderchuyko4889
      @alexanderchuyko4889 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jcx2bby Yes, you are right. I mixed up two and four cycles engines. Well... but is there any way to fix in case if the mixture is too rich (a spark plug is always covered with carbon)? Or just carb replacement? I`m really confused. Thank you

  • @richczentorycki2540

    Don't work over grass...or have a magnet handy. On the little white tubes I used one of those grocery tie raps by gently peeling back the paper to expose the thin wire, to be used for getting the green crud off the little brass orifices in their respective tubes (the little white tubes), including the two slipped one into the other. I blew out all the tiny holes with a little red tube on the nozzle of my starting ether. The bigger holes, a new q-tip gently inserted and rotated was effective. Any spraying, keep any tubes perpendicular to face and wear safety goggles, really! I prefer the ether since it is safer, I think, than the carb cleaner. If you disturb the giant o-ring of the bottom bowl be careful in reassembling it since the rubber will appear like it grew and now does not want to fit. And don't forget the little white plastic adapter ring that squeezes the o-ring against the rear of the carb tube going into engine hole. That's an easy miss. Thanks. again.

    Get rid of the fuel in the tank. If the mower spent it's time outside, there most likely will be water in the tank. And the fuel may be old. Just good habit.😊

    Excellent breakdown - I have a very similar 550 and thanks to this guide I wasn't surprised by pieces falling out and got my mower running again in just an hour or two, never having done engine work before. I found it much easier to access by putting up on a workbench if you have one around.
    Camera focus tip: fill up the screen as much as you can with a closer background like your hand and it will help the camera figure out where it's supposed to focus sooner.
    All said, thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together!

They must be clear of any obstruction. Also push out the metal ball. Don't loose it m spray carb cleaner through those bleeder holes. Reasemble it

    I have done this several times and eventually the carburetor gets clogged up again. I have a running rotation of cleaned up carburetors and some new installs to keep things going. However, I had a brain fart and there is a new red circular O ring in a new carb kit (other one is obvious). I noticed I had a hard plastic circular and an older black O ring back to back for some reason, maybe in wrong order or place on the mower side where we are placing carburetor back on. If that makes sense, tell me what belongs or what the red o-ring needs to replace or maybe I even have 2 white plastic rings from previous installs?

    You wouldn't have to take it apart 2 or 3 times if you clean it right the first time. You removed the jet assembly to clean with a sewing needle, you should have removed the outer assembly to get to the orifices inside the center (main) jet. Soak everything in carb cleaner for about 20 minutes, then reassemble. One time!

  • @pay9011
    @pay9011 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just an FYI. There is one more disassembly step you can do with that innermost white carb assembly (with the stacks). The center 'stack' can be lifted/pryed off, exposing a few more interior jets to clean out. Other vids on here describe it.
    If I'm going this far I think I'd try to clean out as much as possible the first time.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @pay9011

      I just took mine apart for cleaning. First time I've opened up one of these plastic carbs. That center white stack was a real bear to pull off (as was my gas line). Others have recommended prying it off with a screwdriver but that seemed like an easy way to break it. I ended up repeatedly twisting it slightly back and forth while pulling very hard on it. There were three holes in there, one of which had some crud.
      The sewing needle idea worked great. I actually used a pin.

    Amazing that after 7 years this video is still yielding dividends. You helped me salvage my mower. Thank you so much. For every grace that is administered there was a price paid by someone. Grace is not cheap just because it's free. Thanks again!

    I use the ultra sonic cleaner but I don’t heat it on plastic anything
    Carbs are ok but dirty air fines will destroy the engine IF not clean every other use

    The corrosion you are talking about is not from rain water on engine but fuel is breaking down ethanol so turns to water

    One benefit to these new plastic carburetors is there are plenty of free mowers sitting by the curb on garbage day. People throw these out because the carb is clogged, and a 15-minute no-purchase repair will fix them.

    Nice work and easy presentation. Very relaxed. I have the 550 series which has the single spring. Would you know that spring part number? Also, is the diaphragm part numbered 795083? Please advise, and thanks in advance for your help.

    • @jcx2bby
      @jcx2bby  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scotty, I don't know all the part numbers but if you go to the Briggs and Stratton website and put in your engine's Model/Type code, it will bring up a parts breakdown that will give you every number you ever wanted.
      shop.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/repair-parts
      Diaphragm? None on this series carb that I recall.

    This may be from 5 years ago, but I have this same exact mower that was abandoned in a shed. And was able to basically get it for free! And I've never was able to get the original carb to really ever run right. But I bought a new carb off Amazon but I think I have the wrong jet Inside my carb. Because it surges up and down and I didn't realize that the carb is not the same part # as this carb. But thanks to you now I know what size jet to get for my carb! Should make it run great afterwards In my opinion.
