LT and Reggie white are unstoppable on defense. LT can survey the entire field and disrupt every play. Reggie gets to opposing QBs at ease. Oh and Randall Cunningham is best qb if you incorporate shotgun and qb draws.
Not much of a mystery. Same reason Emmit Smith was unstoppable in Madden ‘94 and TO was the same in madden ‘01. Don’t know if they still have those type of players but all old football games use to have them
This is one of my all time favorite games for any system! I played this game literally thousands of times! When Bo was reached excellent condition, you didn’t need to zig and zag...
When I was in college we used to play the original version and keep stats on paper. Many a fight broke out over that game. Then the new version came out and we all thought we died and went to heaven. Best video game ever.
They created Bo Jackson to do circles around defensive players in tecmo super bowl. It was awesome to grow up in the 80's and 90's playing as Bo Jackson destroying your brothers and cousins in tecmo super bowl. Fights broke out and mom would unplug the AC adapter straight out of the outlet socket.

I wish this one was in the nes classic instead of the first Tecmo bowl. I was wondering why I wasn’t seeing player names.... I used to have the gameboy version and it had player names.
On the NES Tecmo Bowl did have the player names, but Nintendo didn't have the NFLPA license to include them on the NES classic. The NFL license and the NFLPA license are probably the reasons they couldn't use Tecmo Super Bowl unfortunately.
I never used the Raiders, I was a Colts fan so I usually used them but if not them I used the Dolphins just because Marino was my favorite QB and they had 3 pass plays. He was great in TB.
Glad I saw this, and I forgot his name was QB Eagles too. Cuz it was too long to render in game lol. SO many full screen running touchdowns with him in pro bowl and eagles season games.

I love when I play someone who picks the raiders in tecmo bowl... cuz all I do on defense is pick run 1, run 1, run 1, and take bo out COMPLETELY, and the rest of the raiders sucks... Ps, the original NES tecmo bowl did habe licensing. Cuz I never had tecmo super bowl, only original tecmo bowl, and I learned about players like John offerdahl and Eric bentley, and bears return man Gentry, cuz of that game... It's when u play it on Wii virtual or whatever, that for some reason they take the names out
Hey dude. How've you been? Yeah for whatever reason I had only played the original Tecmo Bowl on the NES classic recently and they removed the player names and I guess I had a Mandela effect and forgot the original cartridge version did have the names but not the real team names. The Oilers with Haywood Jeffries Curtis Duncan Ernest Givins and(maybe Yancey Thigpen) I always forget the other guy but he was good too with the great Warren Moon passing, top 5 passing attacks on the game
Sir, the things that you found out for this video is appreciated. My all time fav game when I was younger and I found this video to be awesome. Thank you for the content
Easy way to counter BO was to pick his play every time and you pick a LB..let the team all rush in while you cover the middle..BO gets stopped the whole game while you cover the pass..that was my defense whenever I play against him..
Yep you could do that in the original Tecmo Bowl for sure. It got a little tougher in TSB cause the plays were a little more complex but if you are good at the game you can contain Bo to some extent. Thanks for commenting.
I loved Bo Jackson back in the day. I still have that black and white card you pictured in my collection. That and the Jose Canseco card were up there in my collection.
Tecmo Bowl taught me the rules of football. I was way too ADD to learn them from anything else. Those two NES games were legendary and Bo Jackson is one of my favorite sports dudes of all time. Great video!
No one in our group picked the Raiders because all you had to do was key on Bo to win. There passing game and defense sucked.the best teams in that game were the Giants, Sf, and Buff
In TSB... bills were the real deal. From jim kelly (aka BILLS QB 10) to beebe and reed, and Thurman Thomas, that coat hanger and flea flicker was death to defenses.
Unfortunately the numbers presented are a decent amount off. I’ve reversed engineered the whole game. A 75 ms straight line 40 time takes 5.4 seconds. A 69 ms 40 takes 5.6 seconds. Bo would only be 3 yards ahead of Barry on a full 100 yd td run.
The Nintendo version is really good but it's nowhere near as good as the Super Nintendo version. Super Tecmo Bowl is a lot better with no screen flicker, you can do touchbacks, etc. It's the best version of Tecmo Bowl ever made. I can't even play the original anymore and the NES version of Tecmo SB is really primitive. They could have just updated the rosters on Super Tecmo Bowl and I would have continued to buy it. It's still one of my favorite games and I play it all the time.
My go-to team was always the Chiefs. Okoye isn't as fast sure, but he usually ragdolls anyone who touches him. Then you got Paige on WR who was surprisingly good, and the unstoppable defense of Derrick Thomas. This game was a masterpiece, and we still play it togther around the holidays
Wow Chris you are right! It was timing. Tecmo Bowl for the NES was supposedly based on the 1988 season, but it was clearly 1987 with Chicago still having Walter Payton (he retired after the 87 season) and Indianapolis, Denver, and Washington included as they all made the playoffs in the 87 season. Bo was insane his rookie year, with the signature game against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. He was actually pretty pedestrian under Mike Shanahan in 1988 but was great against when Art Shell took over in 1989 and in 1990.
This was great! Excellent breakdown. I always wondered what the official speed stats were. Bo was a beast no doubt, but I still always went with the 49ers with Montana to Rice and Roger Craig at running back. But the main reason was Ronnie Lott on defense. He had to be one of the fastest players on D along with LT on the Giants.
Fun facts about all 3: Haddix is rated the best CB in the game due to his ranking being based on the '90 season in which he lead the league in INTs with 7. He never had another INT before or after that season and only played 42 games in the NFL. Offerdahl opened a bagel restaurant in the '90 season which later became a chain that would later merge with another group to become the nationwide chain Einstein's Bagels. Ball being a stud shouldn't be too surprising to those following NFL at the time, he was selected to the Pro Bowl in '89,'90 and '91 and was arguably the best DT in the league. He is one of the few players to have a rule change informally named after him. The "Jerry Ball Rule" outlawed chop blocks after he was injured by one.
How to "stop" Bo Jackson in Tecmo Super Bowl: Be the Philadelphia Eagles. Offense for offense. QB Eagles aka Randall Cunningham is a juggernaut, in his own right. Defense for the Eagles has Bob Golic, who can lurch and stop any run up the middle. Lurching is often deemed "illegal." If thats the case, simply use Reggie White as your defensive player.
@@thegreatandsigmaticgiants8307 I'm from Seattle but if one of us played the Seahawks we had to agree NOT to play the Raiders, Bears, Dolphins, or 49ers against them :-) Steve Largent was good and Seattle's defense was okay but still that wasn't good enough to beat most of the teams on that game.

LT and Reggie white are unstoppable on defense. LT can survey the entire field and disrupt every play. Reggie gets to opposing QBs at ease. Oh and Randall Cunningham is best qb if you incorporate shotgun and qb draws.
Add Tecmo Super Bowl Deion Sanders to the list. Dude was unstoppable in the right hands.
Not much of a mystery. Same reason Emmit Smith was unstoppable in Madden ‘94 and TO was the same in madden ‘01. Don’t know if they still have those type of players but all old football games use to have them
If you picked the same play it was automatically a blitz! I love techno super bowl it was the best
I liked using the 49ers, raiders was good though bo jackson , marcus allen & tim brown.
Warren Moon was also fun to play with. 100 yard TD's every time.
To Jefferies
@@beatsinmycrates
Yeah Jeffires looked so good drafted outta of NC State that they made him good in the game too. Too bad it took him 2 years to mature in the NFL and then he got plagued by injuries.
@@bcast9978 Just Jeffires? That Oilers team had the best 4-WR combo in the game--Jeffires, Drew Hill, Curtis Duncan and Earnest Givins. I think all of them had a 69 catching ability or higher.
I love this channel and anything dealing with the NES because damn ! It hits the nostalgia feelings like a truck ! I have so many great memories with this . Staying up all night with my cousin trying to make it to the super bowl ! ...I don’t think we ever did actually .
G3 bringing sports science into the retro game scene! Nice job!
Thanks Slappy. I tried my best lol
Bo is awesome until he comes up against Lawrence Taylor. He is the one who can't be stopped
LT was no joke. That is for sure!!!!
Yep
I think LT is just as fast as Bo on the game, quiet as kept.
Good point almot 4got lt
Came here to comment this. LT could block every extra point too.
There's at least one defensive player who is also 75 max speed.
The 23 thumbs down must be the guys who didnt get the raiders!
Lol. Great comment!
Lol. Great comment!
I never used the Raiders, I was a Colts fan so I usually used them but if not them I used the Dolphins just because Marino was my favorite QB and they had 3 pass plays. He was great in TB.
Pick all Bo plays 🤷🏽♂️ Easy to stop the Raiders
he was a beast but i never had a problem stopping him with that 49ers defense- charles haley and ronnie lott were nasty
And in actuality, i always picked the Eagles simply because Randall Cunningham!!
AKA QB Eagles. Double threat.
He was a beast! Throw/run? Not sure, yet!
Glad I saw this, and I forgot his name was QB Eagles too. Cuz it was too long to render in game lol. SO many full screen running touchdowns with him in pro bowl and eagles season games.
I remember those days boy ....... if you didn’t have BO on your team back then, you may have well just given up before you even started playing the game. Thanks for another amazing video Tyler.
Welcome dude. Bo was the man for sure.
It's when u play it on Wii virtual or whatever, that for some reason they take the names out
You can get a pass play to bo jackson also. At least that's the way it is in the tecmo bowl. I'm not sure about super tecmo bowl.
Hey dude. How've you been? Yeah for whatever reason I had only played the original Tecmo Bowl on the NES classic recently and they removed the player names and I guess I had a Mandela effect and forgot the original cartridge version did have the names but not the real team names. Thats my bad and I will own up to it.
Then that opponent is an idiot for not giving Bo all four run plays by changing the playbook.
MAsterr Serch exactly💯💯💯...I did the same thang and the Raiders were pretty easy to beat!!
The Oilers with Haywood Jeffries Curtis Duncan Ernest Givins and(maybe Yancey Thigpen) I always forget the other guy but he was good too with the great Warren Moon passing, top 5 passing attacks on the game
Cool Breeze Webster slaughter was the other receiver
@@stevesalami4586 Drew Hill was the receiver I was thinking of, I think Slaughter came after him in like '92 or '93
“YAY Bo Jackson !” *peter voice*
Lol
Sir, the things that you found out for this video is appreciated. My all time fav game when I was younger and I found this video to be awesome. Thank you for the content
Easy way to counter BO was to pick his play every time and you pick a LB..let the team all rush in while you cover the middle..BO gets stopped the whole game while you cover the pass..that was my defense whenever I play against him..
Keep in mind that he only had 1 play the other one was to marcus allen
Yep you could do that in the original Tecmo Bowl for sure. It got a little tougher in TSB cause the plays were a little more complex but if you are good at the game you can contain Bo to some extent. Thanks for commenting.
I loved Bo Jackson back in the day. I still have that black and white card you pictured in my collection. That and the Jose Canseco card were up there in my collection.
Jerry Rice was uncoverable! 😂
Tecmo Bowl taught me the rules of football. I was way too ADD to learn them from anything else. Those two NES games were legendary and Bo Jackson is one of my favorite sports dudes of all time. Great video!
Should've just titled the game,
"Bo's Bowl."
he did have his own baseball game on nes "Bo Jackson Baseball"
The retro gaming community is THE BEST gaming community!
Nobody was allowed to pick the Raiders
Exactly! You were no longer invited if you picked the Raiders lol.
No one in our group picked the Raiders because all you had to do was key on Bo to win. There passing game and defense sucked.the best teams in that game were the Giants, Sf, and Buff
Still luv Tecmo Bowl! Spent so many hours playing this game! Great Video
My favorite athlete of all time
Bo was unbelievable! Thanks for taking time to comment man!
Once again, God bless you, Japan.
In TSB... bills were the real deal. From jim kelly (aka BILLS QB 10) to beebe and reed, and Thurman Thomas, that coat hanger and flea flicker was death to defenses.
Dont forget Bruce Smith, Cornelius Bennett and Ray Bentley on defense. I cant tell you how many sacks and blocked field goals i had with Ray.
PApro everyone always talks about bo in reference to TSB... Buffalo was that real shit tho. Only situation in history, where that’s a fact
QB Bills lol
Who remember John Elway football ball on nes that reverse was serious
Any man that can break a bat over his head like a twig, deserves to get 6 more points over anyone else in a video game, just off that alone...
@Matthew Gillis and ya know steroids.
Joe Montana and Jerry Rice were also unstoppable not to mention they had Roger Craig as a running back.
My bears handled him I used #50 singletary to spy.
Nice!
Walter Peyton
I still play Tecmo Supebowl whenever hardcore fans update with the latest teams and stats! ; D
When Bo was "Excellent," his speed was actually 88.
I thought it was 94
Bo Jackson was my first favorite sports star and the reason I've been a Raiders fan since childhood.
based af love Boldy James
Must play Tecmo Super Bowl right now!!!! Time to fire up my retropi NES!!!!!
That's right man! Get after it!!!!
That's why I said my estimations weren't exact science lol. Thanks for sharing your work though. Hope you enjoyed the video
Being a little brother in the 80’s-90’s sucked
Deion Sanders had a 75 max speed too
Eagles was option pass outlet every play go AU!
Rod woodson too
@@andrewhiggins7640 Any pass play was an option with Randall Cunningham!
This has always been my favorite football game...
Bo Jackson was an incredible baseball/football player. This game is a masterpiece.
It really is a masterpiece and Bo was one of a kind. Such a shame he got injured.
GenerationGapGaming I know can you imagine?
The Nintendo version is really good but it's nowhere near as good as the Super Nintendo version. Super Tecmo Bowl is a lot better with no screen flicker, you can do touchbacks, etc. It's the best version of Tecmo Bowl ever made. I can't even play the original anymore and the NES version of Tecmo SB is really primitive.
They could have just updated the rosters on Super Tecmo Bowl and I would have continued to buy it. It's still one of my favorite games and I play it all the time.
LOL......my dad's favorite game as a kid. He still keeps that game console and many games stored at my grandmas basement. lol 💕
I had success with Walter Payton... Never knew about this
Same Bears was my team also
My go-to team was always the Chiefs. Okoye isn't as fast sure, but he usually ragdolls anyone who touches him. Then you got Paige on WR who was surprisingly good, and the unstoppable defense of Derrick Thomas. This game was a masterpiece, and we still play it togther around the holidays
Tecmo Bowl on NES did indeed have the real players. Tecmo Bowl on the NES Classic doesn't. It's ok though, I still enjoy your vids bro.
Wow Chris you are right! I guess I had a Mandela effect with the original where I have recently just played the original tecmo bowl on the classic and I was totally convinced they didn't have the names back in the day either lol. My mistake dude. I try my best to get it 100% right but I botched that one. Thanks for being cool about it.
@@GenerationGapGaming no problem, glad I found your channel.
They probably would have to get individual players permission instead of dealing with the players association. Would cost alot of $.
I just ported Techmo Super Bowl onto my NES Classic....I’ll have to see if Super Bowl uses the players names
They had the real players and Cities, but the mascot of the teams were all jacked up
Awesome video man! And you are absolutely correct, as soon as someone mentions Tecmo Bowl, I think of Bo Jackson!
Thanks so much man!
Well any hardcore player knows Nigerian nightmare is better.
The Nigerian Nightmare KC. Players used to bounce off him too, he just was slow. Christian Okoyae
He was 'slow' because he always had 3 guys hanging off of him. Look up his sprint times he was an amazing athlete.
This was made back when Bo was the man and the NFL didn’t suck like today!!! Bo and Walter were fun to play in Tecmo
Ronnie lott was fast
As great as Bo is in the game, nothing beats Montana to Rice.
They were quite the force to be reckoned with too.
Ya I was raiders and my older brother was 49s and man that combo was unstoppable
QB EAGLES? To himself
Riggan Rose Insert Steve Young and there is very little drop off going to Rice and Taylor.
Wayne Haddix from the Buccaneers, John Offerdahl from the Dolphins, and Jerry Ball from the Lions are all hidden defensive gems in this game.
Haddix was ALWAYS in the top five in interceptions at the end of every season
How to "stop" Bo Jackson in Tecmo Super Bowl:
Be the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bob Golic = MVP of Tecmo lol
Randall Cunningham is great in that game for sure man!!
Bob Golic played for the Raiders. You're thinking of Mike Golic
You brought back a lot of great memories with this video. You should tackle the NHL games on Sega Genesis.
NHL 96 was my favorite although the cheesy side shot made the game frustrating against friends.
Bo was OP in that game but the rest of the Raiders sucked so it was kind of a wash.
He was fast on the 1st Tecmo Bowl that's the only team I played with was the raiders
49ers and Bears were playable too.
@@paulsmith5611 right I remember that
@@thegreatandsigmaticgiants8307 I'm from Seattle but if one of us played the Seahawks we had to agree NOT to play the Raiders, Bears, Dolphins, or 49ers against them :-) Steve Largent was good and Seattle's defense was okay but still that wasn't good enough to beat most of the teams on that game.
Screw this Dan Marino and Miami all the way!
Hi Tyler, Patron supporter here. I'm not really interested in sport games, but your video was very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man. Always great to hear from you!
Walter Payton was better
Walter Payton was the man too. I guess #34 is the greatest lol
Payton was good no doubt...
But...
You can't compare the two!
Obviously Bo did not have a full career!
Raiders4Life!
So many fights we had to ban playing the Raiders. Marcus Allen could kill it too.
