Good video. It would have been nice if you showed the rod, reels, line weight you were using. Your buddy who caught the first Yellow might want to think about a slightly stiffer rod with more length to control the fish and keep it from dragging him around the boat. I love light tackle, but that rod seemed to be maxed out with a 15 lbs fish
@@hogsquadfishing - you wanna hear something funny? I just bought a boat in the same storage place as you. Don't want to mention which one and where but I saw your boat about 5 boats down from me. LOL. It is a very nice boat and I was really considering getting one but wanted more room in the birth. See you there one day and on the water. cheers
how often do you guys go ? i need a boat buddy... water looks calm, i got a 20 footer but ive never made it out that far yet, just been around HB corona del mar and Long beach...been nervous to go more west into ocean lol
Husband is looking for video on how to catch yellow tail fish and saw your boat’s name, he has a boat name Pilar as well! He wants me to tell you that’s a beautiful video!
Last 3 times fishing these areas the Sea Dawgs were brutal. Took my fish😢. Someone said to free spool if the Dawgs are chasing. Unfortunately didn't get the chance to try that. Solid video
It’s always big to have multiple set ups from a 20lb flyline 30lb flyline and even 40lb flyline and then a jig stick if you like throwing jigs Aka surface iron and all fly line set ups must have 4ft or longer fluorocarbon leader I like a 10ft leader and remember in fishing higher price tag means higher quality product just like any tool/gear
my question is why would you want to leak information of local spots and techniques to the public therefore making this fairly untouched prestine spot someday over fished and ruining the spot and fishery?
Catalina is a big island. Fish are all around the island. There's PLENTY of room and fish for all to enjoy. Let's not be peppered fisherman. Stay salty my dudes!!!
Great video and nice Yellow! Go to Flouro favorite is gold label 20lb.
Thanks for sharing knowlege!
Which rod brand/ size, etc do you guys recommend to fish in catalina?
Hey quick question for yellowtail did it matter what spot your at or is it just where structure is ?
Just where the structure
Great video, thanks for the tips.
No problem James

Whats the tell if there is structure under the boat? just an abnormally larger bit breaking up the flat bottom im assuming?
Yes that or a steep ledge
How many pounds is that fishing pool? Braided or mono type of setup
Can you do a walk around of your boat and how you set it up? Looks like a Farallon 26?
It’s not my boat but I might be able to have Jim arrange it

Used to go a lot in CA I live in Florida now.
Is a California Csx-s700ML rod with an eliminator 5000 with 300yds #50 lbs mono on bottom and 100yds of #25 mono on top good to fish for yellowtail?
Yes that should work
I need broo🎉🎉🎉 11:58
Nice yellow !!

Awesome thanks for watching
If you have braid how long the leader should be??
The longer the better but 2-3 feet is good
Rod tip to reel.
was this near frog rock?

That’s brutal
Is this the back side ?? Front side??
What reel is that the gold one?
An old Trinidad
Do you prefer 7' or 8' rods for yellow tail?
7’ unless it’s a jig stick
Too bad that area is now closed. I took 3 guys there a few years back and we put over 20 yellows on the boat.
I want to start fishing in the ocean. I don’t know what kind of setup I would need to fish off shore
Daiwa Fluorocarbon is best value and has a line keeper on it but gold 20 for the win when bite is slow
What time of day was this .. ??
Afternoon
Is behind Catalina island from San Pedro
Good catch bro, whenever I go fishing offshore of Catalina I only catch barracuda
You lost me when you said everyone goes to Catalina for yellow tail 🤣
Most videos leave you with more questions and don't cover depth, structures, ETC. Super helpful! Thank you!
No problem thank you for watching
Enjoyed the video. The content is simple and very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid
20lb all day😎
Whats up with that haircut Captain ?
is that like to keep the Sun off the back of your head ? Nice Show 🤙
Thank you and I honestly don’t know why I had a mullet 😂
That was not a jig stick Okish video. Not really
U didn’t rlly explain the tackle or how to catch them

Also dirtyhookers posts detailed set up videos for every type of offshore fishing
No offense but you didn't explain crap
Small game? Are you fishing for deer? 😂😂😂
Sometimes rabbits

It’s Catalina and it’s very simple information to help people out. Yellowtail fishing is no secret.
@@sallyhurcher1051 yes its no secret because of videos like this and the more times information is posted the worse it will get.
@@san.diego.fisherthis is an entertaining comment🤣🤣
