Halibut frames make amazing fish stock / soup as well.. Last time I ate it we steamed it with ginger / shallots / soy / garlic & sumak served with rice - amazing
Nice video. I caught my first keeper halibut on my kayak, right outside of Shelter Island boat launch. That stinger hook is a must when targeting halibut.
Great video! When looking for your spot, are you looking for a rocky bottom or sandy bottom on the fish finder? Or just finding schools of bait fish on the finder?
Adam, first thanks are in order! Winter time Socal fishing content is rarer than gold from Ophir. Loved your Halibut rig. Although you were not fortunate enough to catch a legal you demonstrated great patience by not quickly setting the hook on strikes 👍. I once gave my trash Barracuda to my Mexican neighbor and his wife made the best cerviche I've ever had. Oh is Cole your brother?
It happens that way sometimes haha. Viktor made barracuda when he was out here for us and it was actually pretty good! It might get a bad rap from sitting in gunny sacks, definitely a fish that needs to be taken care of
Fished all over down there when i was a kid. Halibut…clean em quick and get the worms out of the stomach..i can remember seeing them “king cobra” on the meat.
@@fluentfishing if ya don’t mind me asking, cause I’m looking to add, how many amp hours is your battery? Is it lithium? And how long does it last you? Thanks!
@@zacschlais5613 Lithium is a little rich for my blood haha. I have thought about it to cut down on weight though. I just use the west marine batteries, pretty sure its group 27 90 Ah. I have done three day trips and havent ran out of juice.
@@fluentfishing can you advise me when is a good month to come for 200 lb plus blue fin on jigging? also go on a party boat right? i saw u rent on personal boat so jelly.
Yeah I skipped on the barracuda for many years until I discovered they are delicious. You just fillet them and take out the bloodline and they are amazing. Perfect for fish tacos! There's a video on TH-cam that shows how to clean them the right way
@@besearchingforwisdom6267good looking out but technically hoop nets count as a landing net and we had ten of those on board! Just needs to be at least 18” opening
What a beautiful day! Gotta love the California weather in the middle of winter!
There are some amazing weather windows for sure!

I might have to look into doing that, sounds delicious!
“I’m not even mad that I haven’t caught a legal size one. I’m a little mad” 😂 Glad you guys caught some! The dish looks super tasty!
Haha hard not to be! Thanks for watching
Song always puts me in a good mood 👍🔥
Glad to hear that!!

It definitely is, can’t tell how many fish we land with the stinger
Nice fishing. Thanks for the cooking . Looked yummy.
Appreciate you watching!
Nice ! , up here in the San Gabriel Valley we have all the Eureka and Meyers Lemons tree's growing abundant without much care. 🍋🍋🍋
I also live in the SGV and yup. Nearly all citrus grows very nice with little effort.
beautiful scenery
It’s a special island for sure!
Cool video! Thats where we go for halibut too. Maybe we'll see you out there one day 👍
The entire island is special for sure!
You out-did yourself cooking in this video! That is one lucky GF you have there 😂
Thanks! I will make sure to let her know 😂

And no he’s just a buddy!
Do you have a video on how to tie a stinger hook? I’d like to learn 👍
100% guys nice job On releasing the short fish 👍
Thanks!
I’m in Florida and the Barracuda are huge but the closest we have to Halibut is Flounder but no where near the size of Halibut!
I would love to taste a flounder just to compare the two
What day was this? Looks super calm out there. Musta been before the big swell came in?
.
Yea it was!
Fished all over down there when i was a kid. Halibut…clean em quick and get the worms out of the stomach..i can remember seeing them “king cobra” on the meat.
Sick day man
Thanks dude! it was a fun one for sure
oh to have beautiful days like that. If I were you i'd be out all day aswell!!!
Halibut Piccata? Looks delicious!
It was really good!
Very nice and jealous. When was this? I’ve been noticing conditions have been horrible out there.
There's been some weather windows!
Waiting for the wind to die down so I can take my boat out your video gave me hope
I always wonder, is there any taste different from a California halibut vs Texas flounder. Your legal size is 22 and we have doormats at 22 inches.
I haven’t tried a Texas flounder to be honest. I would love to do a comparison though
Spot on!👊🏻🇺🇸
Yeww!
What weather website or app do you use to check weather and ocean conditions before going out?
Sorry i missed this! I use passageweather, windy, windfinder and noaa. Usually the average of all of those is accruate haha
Hey is that the ulterra trolling motor your rocking? How big is your battery 24/36v? How many aH?
Its just an older minn kota riptide. 24 volt.

how deep of water are you fishing in? Im trying to get into fishing and cant seem to catch a real fish. Thanks!
Nice!!!
Thanks!
good video good job 100%
Thank you I appreciate that!
how long does it take to get to Catalina Island? I want to take my inflatable out.
Just depends on the weather really. Get confident on reading the forecasts before sending it across
Awesome video
Its weird to see halibut in such clear water. Maybe they've got more vibrant coloration off catalina.
DOES THE PART WITH WHITE TASTE DIFFERANT THAN THE DARKER SIDE THANKS
I havent noticed a difference in taste. It does cook faster though due to it being thinner than the top side.

Welcome to the channel!
catalina known for blue fin. are they gone"?
Definitely not gone! We had tons of them around in the warmer months.

Ok i subscribed 🎉🎉🎉
Barracuda is actually a really good smoked fish due to there oil content!
Never tried them that way but may have to

Barracuda is good cooked style.
My wife also never has no good comments but she eats it all lol 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’ve seen White Seabass in 2 feet of water
Same!
I tried eating Barrie’s 40 years ago and no matter how I tried to hide the taste they were 😝😝😝
NIce!!!
Thanks!
Oh man it's so nice to see people using conventionals. All those eastcoaster using spinning reels is a bit depressing
I agree with you there haha. Thanks for watching
Early on they seem to be catching stompers.
You need a good net!
I have one we just forgot it! It isn't an overnight fishing trip if you don't forget something haha
@fluentfishing7327
Delete that reply and plead the 5th, the dog catchers are always watching...I don't use a net but it's onboard

No more making bait we can cast net now
The fish were paid actors right??
haha absolutely!
You should get longer arms so you can make it look even bigger.😂
I tried telling him to hold it out even further.
