    I think I was on a party boat that pulled up on the paddy your boat was fishing. Our boat caught 6 before the private boater drove on to the paddy. We drove around 7 hours before we poached on your paddy.

  • @jimbo4612
    @jimbo4612 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You did great with the extremely tuff conditions . Puzzled why the Capt. would tell anglers to go with small hooks #2 and #4 and light line given the number of anglers? No way there is enough room to finesse fly line. Barely enough room to work the right rods for those in the know. Boat looked more like a Sculpin run boat pretending to be a island hopper.

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ll said! They’re usually a half day boat never going out. They started offering 3/4 days for $120 when the dodos showed up! And yes we think alike with line and hooks. Bringing knives to gunfights isn’t our MO. Thanks Jim Bo

    • @PK-od8iu
      @PK-od8iu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are recommending 2 and 4 hooks because the Dorado have been very picky lately. I went twice for dodo out of 22nd st san pedro (Native sun) and once out of Berth 55 long beach(Victory) and dorado were only really biting 15/20 lb fluoro with 2/4 hooks. Yes you can get bit on bigger hooks and heavier line but it decreases your chances of a bite. These fish have been hammered since they showed up on our coast and are learning lol. Dorado will swallow the sardine so a small hook is fine. On 3/4 day boats you will get less than 3 hours to fish because the dodos are now further out now due to all the pressure. Best odds of hooking up is a mono top shot with 15b fluoro with a 2 or 4 hook now. Awesome that Hook2Cook landed some on 40lb line but that just decreasing the odds of a bite. I'm done with dorado for this season, WAYYY too many fisherman with spinning reels that dont know how to fly line trying to catch their first dodo.

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PK-od8iu thanks for the input very valid. Only area that is tough about when they swallow hooked is they do have teeth and will cut through line especially sawing back and forth because the fight time is increased. Maybe this day, they weren’t as shy. 😅 these boats probably recommend the light line to make sure passengers get bit and have a good time.

    • @toddbefield1100
      @toddbefield1100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PK-od8iu Yep, they recommended 20 pound fluorocarbon and size 2 hooks on the 3/4 day out of dana wharf recently as well...was stoked to go 2 for 3 (one spit hook) on my first Cali dorados...an addicting fish to catch!

    I am not a huge fan of 1 day trip boats, people who pay $200+ have high expectations and they are aggressive. When you go on a 3 day or longer trip there is less pressure and people are more relaxed. Hence I will never go on such short trips unless it is attempts at white sea bass.
