If you want more details on the RAM I tested with, it's the same kit I used 2 years ago in this video with the 6800M: th-cam.com/video/8XCeAdFqsKg/w-d-xo.html so 1Rx8 in dual channel - an upgrade over the stock x16 stuff, as I think this should be done for optimal 6800M performance.
4:03 The Witcher 3 graphs saying RT was disabled on the graph is wrong, a copy paste fail from other graphs. It was definitely tested with the RT preset.

I see people missing out on the screen as well, I don't see any gaming laptop in this budget having such a great screen with 100% DCI-P3. I understand that 3070Ti and a 4070 would be better for some workflows but those would be quite expensive and you may need an external monitor as well still.

about vram vs raw GPU power: Textures on high quality requires a lot of vRAM. A game with ultra textures with eveything else set to medium would look MUCH better than textures set to medium but everything else to ultra. buying a high quality laptop that's a few years older, can play 60-100 FPS on most games, but may have to suffer the cruelty of playing on medium settings should be ok for most people...and can save you a ton of money.

We have 200w GPU's in laptops during turing with 330w bricks. They came in 4kg 17' laptops. Then lenovo crammed a 180w 3080ti into a 2.6kg 16' laptop with a 300w brick. With a 330w brick I'm sure it can do 200w on the GPU.
The 4090 doesn't lose much performance at 250w vs 350w to 400w. So realistically you can put a 230w to 250w rtx 4090 into a thicker 18' laptop and maybe use a 220w to 230w rtx 4090 in a 17' laptop and still retain most of the desktop 4090's performance. With proper LM repaste and a decent cooling pad like the Iets Gt500 the GPU can fully utilize 165W in Manual mode and sometimes even crank up to 170W which nets me 11k9 timespy graphic score, equivalent to rtx4070 with 50% more vram. With stock cooling the gpu throttle quite heavily depending on cooling sometimes to only 10k points which is the same with 4060 laptop (the throttle limit is 82c). Ive rocked multiple games in 4k with FSR with decent performance as its in the same tier with the 3060ti desktop with the exception of 12gb sweet vram🍭. Nice.
    This laptop deserved a re-review.
I own one, M6 batch (means still not great LM application).
After 18 months i decided to go through the repaste process.
Got rid of the LM (tedious).
Removed the old thermal pads. Installed new thermal pads (1 mm and 0.5 mm). Applied some K5 Pro.
And applied Grizzly Kryonaut, for both, CPU and GPU.
And of course the trick to add a nylon washer to each screw of the Vapor Chamber, to increase the mounting pressure.
    Amazing results.
Before: Idling at 67C. Max Temp of 99C, Throttling.
After: Idling at 46C. Max Temp 96C, NO Throttling.
I have also took advantange and redo the Win 11 install.
Did not install Armoury Crate at all. And using GHlper instead. Perfect.
    Running Bios 316.
I have some PTM 7950 available, but i am very fine with this config.

Not sure which of the AMD mobile GPUs are affected but the 6850M on my M17 R5 was having constant issues with VR. Had to try different drivers through trial and error to get it to work. Even then, I couldn't get a consistent experience as I'd either get constant stutters or a black screen. Outside of VR, it ran most games quite well in 4k on my TV with the help of VRR. Seems like VR doesn't get a whole lot of attention so I don't think this would affect many people anyways.

I gotta say though having 12GB of VRAM is like having 32GB of RAM. It can come in handy not only in games but also in professionalism tasks. 8GB GPUs on desktops may be looks like 'meh' but 8GB VRAM on laptops is superior. I wish 8GB should be the minimum on any gaming laptops out there. You can't go wrong with Ngreedia though. There are few reasons why I'm still sticking with team green like DLSS, CUDA, NVenc and stuff.

For me it is not clear, when RT is enabled and when not. For example Witcher 3: "Ray Tracing Preset" but "RT/DLSS/FSR/Frame Gen Disabled". It is an important information since we know that AMD GPUs and RT are not good friends. Also The RX 6800M is normally between RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti WITHOUT RT, so that doesn't correspond with your "24 Game Avarage" Chart. Are the included results mixed?

You're right that's a mistake, Witcher 3 was tested with RT in, copy paste fail. I'll update the pinned comment. The only other game is Metro Exodus, the extreme setting preset we use enables RT reflections. That's it though.
"Also The RX 6800M is normally between RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti WITHOUT RT" sorry but I don't think that's true. I compared it with the 3070 and 3080 a couple years ago and it was in between those.

No actually. Look carefully at jarrod's benchmarks. The 3070ti was matching the 4070 while they cost quite a bit less. The nitro 5 has a 150w 3070ti for $970 in the US on newegg. So it'll beat the rx6800m, match the 4070 for a cheaper price AND still give you access to 99% of nvidia's features.
