Even if an SSD is slower than a mechanical hard drive, it might be worth using over a mechanical drive due to power consumption, weight, and lack of moving parts.
@@OkerRe DRAM is very important in this case. This is because you said you are going to use SATA, which is slower than NVME. The thing is tho, all drives need ram of some kind, DRAMless ssd just use a small amount of system ram through the port instead. This is ok on a fast interface (like NVME), but on a slower interface (like SATA) the interface will bottleneck the ssd.

Honestly I think this company can become super successful if they put more powerful specs but still at a cheaper cost than the mainstream products and keep the name it’s great
The problem is what they are doing is mixing obsolete parts with current on market parts to lower the price. They are salvaging what semi-conductor companies want to throw away. Great business model though
"SLC hasn't been around even in the enterprise ...." - It's not talking about SLC, it's talking about SLC technology cache. This means, it is using a portion of the TLC flash as SLC (as long as there is enough available) and then distributes that data later. This has been around for dram-less ssds for quite some time....
Maybe, but the fact is, you just dont put that into the product page, its misleading at best, and false advertising at worst. The drive is TLC flash, therefore, mentioning SLC flash in the product page is just not good marketing practice.
Morpheas To be fair, it does say “SLC cache technology” not SLC flash, so it’s not really false advertising, just tricks people who don’t look carefully enough.
@@morpheas768 So you're saying Western Digital has "misleading at best, and false advertising at worst"? Because that's the first thing on the Amazon product page for their WD Green SSDs, "SLC (single-level cell) caching boosts write performance to quickly perform everyday tasks".
Thank you, @lukas alt, I came here to say this. SLC caching is in almost all consumer SSDs, because it enables higher burst speeds for writes, which is great for marketing. SLC caching is not typically used in Enterprise SSDs, because enterprise customers expect consistent latency, and SLC caching is very fast until the cache fills, then it is as slow as direct TLC writes.

It blows my mind that no company in China has ever thought to hire a fluent English speaker to double check things like proper words and grammar in instruction manuals and such. I mean, I'd happily be a consultant. $5 a pop. Send me your product name and instruction manual. And, I'll send it back making sure everything is in proper English.
Probably the name is a simple translation of the Chinese name (either literal or phonetic). Also, being fat in Asian culture is seen as a good thing (it shows that you're healthy and happy. Yes, healthy, since China for instance had some serious starvation episodes not so long ago) As for hiring native English speaker to do that, some do and just don't care of the input from the native speakers ("yeah, it doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense in English, because the name has been decided already") or they prefer to have Chinese employees who speak English do the translation/proofreading. Even though their level of English is not necessarily god enough to do so...
Yeah, I mean, on the one hand, learning the truth of where meat comes from is important as far as I'm concerned (not a vegan, I just don't think people should be ignorant of what they're eating, and think it somehow magically comes from nowhere) But on the other hand, I can't imagine eating a pet - even one that is from a species we'd normally eat. And I absolutely can't imagine sending a pet off to be slaughtered even if I might contemplate eating it when it dies of natural causes... Everything about that is just plain weird...
@Drakilicious The parents are at fault for letting that happen. At my house, if you wanted to make one of the animals your pet, that was fine, but the only thing you could name it was Food.
@Drakilicious My dad told us a story about growing up on a farm where something similar happened. He got attached to a certain cow and named it something that I cant remember but let's just say it was "buttercup". One day he went out to feed her and she was gone, his mom told him she mustve run away and not to worry about her or something and his dad (not getting the memo) proudly announced that dinner that night would be Buttercup. I'm sure that was traumatic for him but I think it taught him a lesson in the long run. Bit of background; they only had animals for themselves; some chickens for eggs and a couple cows so I'm sure he knew what would happen to her and he found it funny when he told us about it though probably just how it happened with his mother lying and consoling him then his dad coming in and slapping buttercup on the table being none-the-wiser

"It has been years since making 120GB SATA SSDs became unreasonable" I beg to differ, I work in hardware sales, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I just got a shipment of 1200pcs of SATA 120GB SSD's and they are the best selling ones. 240gb and 480gb lag greatly behind, and bigger capacities arent even sold. The price is everything Linus, and not every country is like yours
A lot of people don't seem to understand that a vast majority of internet-users are not gamers, nor do anything that requires having high-capacity SSDs, nor that they must have the very latest in expensive tech. They just like to browse the internet, watch funny videos on TH-cam or badly-acted movies on P*rnhub, and use office-suite programs like LibreOffice/Microsoft Office to get basic work tasks done. A basic, cheap 120GB SSD can do all of that with even a Windows 10 installation, though 7 still seems to be more popular. Even if they only last a year or two before becoming victim to the E-Reaper's scythe, people can easily replace them because of their dirt-cheap cost and wide-spread availability.
I'd argue he's more talking about the actual manufacturing, I.e 5 per nand chip, 5 for the pcb and gubbins, then sell that as a 120gb for 20. vs 240/250gb 2x nand + 6 for pcb and gubbins(extra traces), sell for 40. It's not a matter of quantity of units rather cost of manufacturing. I could be wrong but thats what I heard it as.

Everything is made there, so it's only a matter of time before western companies are either forced to match those prices or go out of business.
And Asian brands are sold at a higher price in the European and American markets. I just got some new earbuds from a Chinese brand for like £100 which sound just as good as some Sony earbuds I tried which cost over £200 The build quality was also comparable. And they sound better than AirPods 3.

Probably the name is a simple translation of the Chinese name (either literal or phonetic). Also, being fat in Asian culture is seen as a good thing (it shows that you're healthy and happy. Yes, healthy, since China for instance had some serious starvation episodes not so long ago)
As for hiring native English speaker to do that, some do and just don't care of the input from the native speakers ("yeah, it doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense in English, because the name has been decided already") or they prefer to have Chinese employees who speak English do the translation/proofreading. Even though their level of English is not necessarily god enough to do so...

The Chicken and Goat thing was hands down one of the weirdest things I've seen since this channel started! excellent!
Yeah, I mean, on the one hand, learning the truth of where meat comes from is important as far as I'm concerned (not a vegan, I just don't think people should be ignorant of what they're eating, and think it somehow magically comes from nowhere)
But on the other hand, I can't imagine eating a pet - even one that is from a species we'd normally eat.
And I absolutely can't imagine sending a pet off to be slaughtered even if I might contemplate eating it when it dies of natural causes...
Everything about that is just plain weird...
What about the video where they painted an LTT merchandise print on to linus his chest 😂
Anthony is so right. Buying random cheap tech is like a scratchcard. More often than not, you just wasted money, but, once in a while, you get a surprising win! Personally, I got a tonne of ARGB stuff off Aliexpress for pennies and now my PC is pimped to the nines!
I'd argue he's more talking about the actual manufacturing,
I.e 5 per nand chip, 5 for the pcb and gubbins, then sell that as a 120gb for 20.
vs
240/250gb 2x nand + 6 for pcb and gubbins(extra traces), sell for 40.
