The only thing left is a good charging network and good range (but that counts for most EV's). Also props to AutoTrader. Videos are always really well made, informative and enjoyable to watch!
@Ernst Boye 8kl well yeah. I was surprised to hear that the mach E sets a new industry benchmark at the temperature which it can start a charge at. It can start charging when it's "as low as" -15 out. As low as? That's above the average temperature in winter. Might be a problem.
There is a mechanical pusher inside that will help open the door (unlike a standard car), and the MME has been tested to -40 degrees, presumably in ice as well.
@Ernst Boye 8kl ooh, and the unsustainable pile of battery waste that will accumulate after 5-10 years when they don't hold a charge anymore. Fun! Let's hope manufacturers are planning easy replacement procedures.
Every time I watch Auto Trader reviews it reminds me that soon the world of cars as we know it is going to change forever. The mustang is a big reminder of this. Soon these cars like the mustang are only going to be seen online, in museums or if you have one. All these cars like the Porsche 911 and the Toyota GR Yaris are never going to continue again like they are now. The least Ford could have done with their mach-e is make it not one of those boring crossovers they are obsessed with but a sports car to remind us that the mustang still lives a bit.
@William Arrington Range IS important, but to really compare these vehicles we also have to consider their practicality, efficiency, features (stuff like wireless chargers or "self driving".), charging network, price, safety, speed/acceleration, etc.

There seems to be something about UK cloudy weather that makes this Infinite Blue color (I *think* it's Infinite Blue!) look much better than it does in some other photos and videos I've seen. I'm once again leaning towards choosing Infinite Blue for my own Mach-E Premium ER AWD that I'll be ordering sometime in the next year (don't need it yet). Thanks as always, Rory, for your reviews. By the way, the parcel shelf is supposed to be attached to the tailgate as a cargo *cover*, and it is flexible so it will deform over bulky cargo. (As for the snapped hook, blame your fellow reviewers who had this pre-production demo before you did. :) ) Also, the mirror (which is mandatory in the U.S.) extends far enough out that the front door handle is completely hidden in its existing aerodynamic flow, so the handle adds no additional drag. Finally, Ford is pushing out hands-free autonomous driving as an over-the-air upgrade sometime later this year; many models come with the necessary hardware already installed (including the IR sensors just behind the steering wheel, which only blink visibly on camera but not to the naked eye), and others offer it as an option.
Wow, given I own an S550, I thought I hated this until your review. I’m also dipping my feet into the electric car world with a Nissan Leaf. It’s the polar opposite of the V8 manual Mustang, but as a family car, I love the fact it’s so quiet, so easy to drive, performance is so effortless and all the tech you need. There are some pretty annoying quirks - range is terrible, and yesterday our 12v battery went flat, it’s only 2 months old!! I love the look and interior of this Mach E. It couldn’t replace my ICE car but would be a nice addition.

How on earth can Ford name this EV a Mustang? :-((... It's like Rolls Royce reintroducing the Silver Ghost name, in a hatchback with a 3 cylinder, 900cc engine putting out 85 bhp!! It's just wrong on every account. And if this had been a BMW X6, Rory would criticise the lack of boot space due to the sloping roof line. ALL car reviewers do. And at 400 litres, it's still 150 short on the X6!! Though the X6 is larger and much more desirable. In my opinion!! :-))... But is it me? Exactly, most of these are absolutely pointless. Their only positive point is a high riding position but again that only applies to the largest SUVs and not those stupid crossovers.
I say it’s all the automakers’ fault for starting to produce/sell these. It’s not like they tapped into a new market with them, they didn’t get a huge number of people who were fine using public transport to buy a car; and the people who were already in the market for a car would have bought a regular saloon/estate if these weren’t available in the first place. I really do despise the trend, especially for Europe, where streets are narrow(er), parking spaces small(er).
Great video. You’re production and delivery is excellent. I really enjoy you’re ease of delivery, all the while providing a ton of detail AND not sugar coating any issues you see. That being said, I really do not like the “Tesla Trend” of mounting a clumsy looking tablet for infotainment rather than integrated screens, although I understand that at this size it would be hard to integrate. However, I point to the Porsche Taycan as a benchmark in that regard, even if it is a few bills more...
People don't understand due to federal and state (CA) fuel emissions standards manufacturers have to commit to balancing out their fleet to produce cars like the 5.0 Mustang and a truck like the V8 F150. Ford is one of five automakers so far that has pledged to do this. It's also the reason the Mustang 2.3 L Ecoboost was developed and the 3.7 V6 was phased out. The reason they haven't phased out the 5.0 is that they can meet fuel emissions standards with a smaller 2.3 L and this Mach E helps out tremendously. It balances everything out. Basically, be happy about the Mach E if you're a Mustang fan.
This is slightly sportier than an escape EV would be. I think that they should have tried to create a new name for it. Something that worries me is that automakers are relying too much on their legacy names and not creating new great names that younger generations well aspire to own a car with that name.
6:39 ppl r looking at it, shrugging, and buying teslas anyway. And the fact that us called Mustang it a huge turn off from the get go. The Mustang at heart is a sports car, and so whenever people hear the Mustang part, they don’t even need to hear the rest of the name to know it’s probably not for them, and then those who are into Mustangs but don’t do their research hear Mustang and they think of the sports car, but when they see the actual car, they see an SUV, which is a huge turn-off, and they ultimately walk away feeling very disappointed. It’s just a lose-lose situation that could b solved by giving it a different name, which is what most manufacturers do, because you’re starting fresh with a new name, which means you don’t run the risk of turning off your customers. The reason why the Mustang nameplate is such an iconic nameplate is because it’s a sports car, and when that nameplate is put on a different car, it starts a whole chain of confusion that isn’t present with other cars
“Nobody wants an electric Ford Fiesta” Actually, that’s exactly what people want. The general population wants to get ordinary-looking vehicles that have clean power trains. People don’t understand why electric cars have to be outrageously expensive or outrageously styled. Stop gate-keeping EVs.
@@evanneiswanger But you don't need it in a car like that. I'm willing to bet that most people who own a 3-door MINI are not doing 300 mile journeys, or really anyone in the UK for that matter regardless of vehicle. The MINI is the perfect small, short-range EV because people are using them to pop to the shops and back, or commuting to a place of work no more than 30 miles away from home. Part of the conversion to EVs is about re-configuring the public's attitude towards how a car works. Sure, we're used to spending 5 minutes filling up and we know we won't need to fill up again for 400-500 miles. But an EV at 200 miles range is fine when you can 'fill it up' at home every night.

Marketing and name aside, the elephant in the room: how does it compare with the model Y?
@William Arrington Range IS important, but to really compare these vehicles we also have to consider their practicality, efficiency, features (stuff like wireless chargers or "self driving".), charging network, price, safety, speed/acceleration, etc.

Mustang, always my dream car
Tbh, I thought Rory was more of a hot hatch guy - hearing the bright yellow Mustang convertible belonged to him was a surprise.
That Mach-E is going to sell like hot pockets.
Got a Mach 1 on order... would consider a Mach E as the family car.
I dont think in south Africa this kind will work anytime soon as there is no charging points whatsoever
This guy really does the absolute best car reviews. I’m a woman who has ZERO interest in cars, but I watch these videos.

In the model 3, you have volume control on the steering wheel, much better than the stupid implementation by Ford. The screen is not bigger, the screen area is smaller.
Doesn't that central display look to be an inch or two, too high!!?? :-\\...

It's real because Ford says it is. But ignore the name. It's a great car.
I wish they would change the name by simply dropping Mustang. Then I would love to have one in White with the black roof and black wheels, as the daily driver and a true Mustang V8 as my weekend beast!
That cut at 2:30 just stunned me. He just looked so massive next to this thing that looks like an SUV

I'll not get into the whole Mustang thing (again). I'll just note that climate controls on a touchscreen will never do for me.
Some controls just need to remain physical. I mean whats the point anyways, save €250 on a 50k vehicle, really? Plus it looks empty, I mean why not just cut the screen a little and add some knobs... Tesla really done changed the whole industry with their massive integrated ipads

One of the advantages of having them on screen is technically they can be changed at will. It would be cool, for example, if I only use fan speed most of the time to just have a nice control for that and use the other space elsewise. A couple of extra taps to modify the temp each season is not a big deal.

My 2012 C class coupe has 450l.
What is even the point of it being an SUV/crossover/whatever they’re called these days, if you can’t take it off-road, you can’t carry a bunch of stuff...?
Lol.. ‘a few bills more’ 👌🏼😂
I don’t need to watch the whole video..
NO. That is NOT a Mustang.
NO. It DOESN’T deserve the pony badge.
Because it’s made in Mexico, it’s got the ‘stache!
Excellent video! Entire range of information, entreatingly presented, beautifully shot. Keep going like this
I own a 2015 V6 and all I have to say is.... why couldn’t this be a Ford Escape EV?!
As a Ford Fiesta owner: that's exactly what I want.
Mini Cooper SE isn’t a bad option. If the 110 mile limit isn’t a dealbreaker. It’d be nice to have one do 250-300
@@evanneiswanger But you don't need it in a car like that.
I don't like that ford used the Mustang tag to name it, when I think of Mustangs I invision a 2 door fastback or coupe, I definitely don't think of a suv...
I agree with Marcus , Ford wasted a billion dollar deal by not shocking the World with Fords 1st electric motor in a wicked cool Mustang GTE ??
sorry but no. awd 4 door suv ≠ 2wd 2 door coupe / convertible. Should have called it the thunderbird or something because the name is dead now, but not a mustang. Its a cool car, crap name
Now a re-released Thunderbird in EV form would be real nice, keeping the original look of course.
I agree with your line of thought... I think they crew it with the Mustang name, as a thunderbird it has a perfect ring to it since it's electric = thunder

Another great video from Rory, I'm a big fan but I must politely disagree on the mustang brand. Ford could have made a new name work with a bit of marketing effort. In my opinion they didn't because of the cost - a new brand would have been far more expensive
Just loved it 👌🏼. Well done Ford
Why is the range mentioned higher than what ford is claiming. For example Ford is targeting ~305 miles with extended range battery RWD. In the video, the range mentioned is 379 miles. Am I missing something here?
They did it to keep the name around forever, like the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Used to hate it when it first came out but starting to like it now 😂
The Mustang brand stands to lose far more than the new platform stands to gain, Ford should have made this a new line entirely
Reality is ICE cars are on the way out. Ford obviously wanted to give their EV a boost but I expect there will be a high performance EV equivalent of the "real" Mustang coming along in the future to satisfy that part of the market.
Because we don’t have enough SUVs on the market already....they had to massacre the Mustang brand and jump on the bandwagon
