Boy that brought back the memories. That would have a D343 engine, overhead cam, if I remember right you adjuster the valves with a long number two Philips screwdriver. The difference between diving one of these and a new one is colossal.
Drove one in 71 to 73 at Kaiser Resources when I was on the road crew. Got pretty good at spreading 2 in- 10 to 15 MPH feather the box up grader operators love it.
Lots of old stuff up there. My old performance manual doesn't list the engine model but does say it ran at 400 horsepower. In those days I'd guess it would likely be a 1693 at that horsepower. The A model 769 was made from 1962 through 1967. It was a 35 ton capacity truck. Struts on all four corners was pretty advanced in those days. I worked on haulers in that vintage that ran springs on the back. Thanks for the visit!

Westview. That's a cool old unit . Been there for yrs .
Very cool. 👍 Reminds me of a baby Terex Titan.
These jewels are resting everywhere. Telling their tales by their silence...and the knowledge of guys like you.
Drove one set up as a water truck.Cat had a good braking system.
That ol truck would probably crank and drive with some hot batteries. One day you can film that shovel and say I seen it when it was new.
cool truck, thanks.
Cool.
BCIT had one in there Heavy Duty program.
I remember seeing it there in 1989, it was old then.
There’s one in New Hampshire in an old pit they still use it
Might be a 3412 or the double overhead cam version of the 343 ,336 before the 34 series
Definitely a D 343 or in a truck a 1692. Double over head cams and 4 valves per cylinder. Very modern design for the times.
@@debi5292 D343, or 1693 in the over the road truck world.
Pretty sure that's a D348 same engine as a D8 of the period, they were the predecessor of the 3412 I think. Cheers bud!
Make a cool go kart
What did you think of thst line of vocational trucks caripllar made up until a few years ago
Personally, i thought they were ugly and would never take off, they sort of didnt. Who would want to be the first test subject as well on a new idea.

I really miss B.C. where it rains and rains........and rains......and rains....
Usually only rains twice a week here. Once for three days and once for four days.
