When it is bad weather go as slow as you feel safe, not what the signs say... Going posted speed will only get you in a ditch and risk your load... Good idea to shut down in a safe area...Give DOT time to get the interstates then hwy then county roads serviced...
another thing that gets new drivers is upper management or whoever they have to report to in conditions like these. they will try to push you to keep driving when they know its not safe and the driver has already told them that they're uncomfortable. i`ve been there. you are on the verge of losing your job because you want to stay alive.
People complain that drivers don't have radios in their trucks anymore but this is the stuff we hear.. Nice save by the way! Orwell had a diamond factory in it for a bit haha.
Yep. I get funny looks and couldn't care less. Five minutes at the truck stop and it's obvious what you're gonna hear on those things 99% of the time -- nothing but garbage. Rather run solo and quiet.
He don't know nothing, but he has a radio and a voice. He may have left his brain at home but he has every right to tell you what to do, cause he be smart he is.
Definitely takes a certain kinda breed to drive a huge cabover in the snow with that much weight behind you I call them outlaw trucker's!!!!!!! Great job Steve on that save and I'm sure it's not the first time...😎🤙🏻😊
Is a cab-over in these conditions particularly any different to a conventional truck? Is it something to do with the wheelbase generally being smaller on average?
The fact that these other truck drivers are blowing right past you just baffles me. Those are the ones that are gonna cause an accident and end up on the side of the road. Be safe out there.
I’m glad to see you made the right call. It doesn’t take a “BOMB Cyclone, run for your lives” to need to make a bad situation. It’s the little ones that get you as you said.
I just finished watching one of your videos from a few months ago when you saw the KW cabover in Ohio, and I find you dropped this video. Damn that was scary when you started skidding. Good save.
You on the cb is quite the hollar n hoot, but some guys just love to hear themselves. I stay pretty quiet unless i see somethin shiney or blowing clouds. Its ungodly aweful trying to decifer the spanish but our state troopers chip in and provide some hilarious comentary.
Safety First and if they don't like it we will pass them in the ditch further up! Always drive according to ones ability's and the weight and all the factors involved. We all want to make it home.
Yeah, snow isn't too much of a problem, as usually the weight of the truck will assure you have at least some grip. No so luck with Ice and then the sheer mass just pushes you on, usually in a direction you DON'T want to go.
Time to get off the road. No tire chains, no pusher axle. Man, I drive too. Been up in Wisconsin many times trying to get back down to the Buckeye. Whew. Go easy man
Nothing beats coffee for a wake up call except for a good pucker and some shorts skids. Great example of keeping calm and under control and NOT panicking. Most drivers would have stepped on the tractor brakes harder complicating the situation further. 25 years I spent behind the wheel, I was starting to feel the itch, but this vid scratched that real quick. Reminded of Clint Eastwood here "Man's gotta know his limits" Thanks for the great post
By the way really nice save on the bridge ty for letting me share Matt AKA DDP be safe out there My friend and brother and friends and everybody yuuuuup ps try to stay warm and have a good rest period yuuuuup
🍭SWEET🍭Whew!!! Glad you made it out of that slide! Well… it’s winter again with a lot more white knuckle rolling to be expected! You definitely showed exceptional professionalism in how you handled the situations! Great video! Be safe 🙏🏼💖👍🏻🇺🇸🌞🌲
I think you made the right call for sure. 28 might have been ok just because Washington county is SIGNIFICANTLY better than basically everyone else (night and day when you go from FDL Co. to WashCo.). That first hill, which I’m pretty sure is what you were talking about) would have been interesting. I think going down to Richfield would have definitely been a no go. Mechanics are seriously underrated! Props to Chris for working on that beast. I’m good with my cars 🤣
I spent 30 years out there traveled all over this country not in a big truck but my service van. I watch you and other truckers and I really miss the travel. But watching this weather your in I don't miss this shit at all. Stay safe my friend.
You did mention needing new drive tires on the way to pick up the load. I'm from Canada.. Much respect for showing common sense and taking your time to stay safe.
If that was on the 5th, I was just a little north of you, had a moderate sized load(15'10" tall, 13' wide, 125k gross) coming out of Green Bay, got just to Appleton when this hit and it got slick fast, my convoy stopped at WI-26 south of Oshkosh and waited it out(we were permitted down 26 to 151 and off to I-39)
Good video Mr Steve glad you was able to maintain the truck on your slide and traveling the interstate that type of weather always good to drive cautious glad you was able to fix your brakes I think when get close to 0 weather cold not to set trailer brakes be safe buddy
Your videos are awesome .yout music you have been playing in the last videos are really awesome .they set the mood for that time of the video .keep up the awesome job and for the people that really give you guff tell them For Get About It.
That was a good call to shut it down with those weather conditions and that much weight. I also was driving in that stuff too and coming down from St. Germain empty wasn’t fun either to that same rest area you were at and the time I got there wouldn’t be the right thing to bother you since there was no light on but I still would’ve came to in the morning after if you were still there but you took off an hour after I got there. It’s all good and I understand why you took off after watching this video. Safe travels and keep the rubber side down
Hey stave how are you doing today my friend I like watching your TH-cam videos and they are very educated and I like the way you explain things to your viewers so any updates on the truck
Thanks Steve great comment the tractor I drive is aT680 KW day cab I don't get stupid on ice if I gotta do 5 mph so be it ,better to be safe than dead .you and Orwell stay safe out there.10-4.
I’m a new subscriber and spend hours everyday on the highway. I wish we had more truckers like you. These days they drive as reckless as a lot of the cars. Times have definitely changed. Stay safe
I agree the older I get the more I hate winter driving. My daughter and son-in-law from 2 states east of me rented a house so we could have a family thanksgiving on Friday. Our town got over 3 foot of snow that weekend east of Lake Ontario (30 miles away they got 5 feet of snow). I didn't want to drive the 12 miles to their house. My son-in-law had to run errands in town and I agreed to ride up ands return Saturday. Let me say the round trip ride was adventurous. We are forecasted to get another possible 2 feet of snow from Wed PM thru Friday PM.
Just a hint from a Canadian driving on ice roads of the Arctic Ocean. When you pull in to stop and it’s below freezing keep moving back and forth every couple of minutes to cool down your breaks for about 15-20 minutes and then only apply your tractor brake never your trailer
I had to figure that one out the hard way.......I spent almost an hour at the TA in Calgary crawling around under my trailer beating on my brake drums with a hammer.....I learned to drag my brakes the last hundred yards before parking then using only the tractor parking brakes....... When the engine is going to idle all night anyway, air pressure isn't an issue. It's information like this that makes the years of experience valuable...... I learned more cussing under that trailer than I could ever have learned out of a book.
Your skid reminds me one time I had a R model Mack short wheelbase with a 50 ton hyster lowboy and a Komatsu excavator on the back. The trailer was a mechanical folding neck so you had to run a winch line from the truck, anyway I forgot after I hooked up, I forgot to put slack in the winch line, and I went to go around a curve. Needless to say it didn’t turn too sharp because the winch line was kinda tight and… short truck heavy load pushed me across the lane of the highway. Moral of the story is a short truck and heavy loads can be fun sometimes. Or in my case being a dummy and forgetting to put slack in the winch line, ha ha!
I damn sure do not miss winter 🥶 driving. Use to run a route from Ohio to Fresno and would endure it either coming or going! Y’all be safe out there. 🚛
Ultimately it’s your choice to pull off and stop til the roads were cleared and treated. I probably would have done the same thing. I always follow my gut instinct. It has kept me safe for 28 years so far. If the drivers don’t like my speed, they can always go around. Nothing I do is worth hurting myself or the motoring public.. Stay safe out there Steve. Love the videos (shop and driving).
'What if he wipes out and closes a lane, what will you say then? Leave him alone let him do his thing.' THIS is why I watch. Steve gets what's IMPORTANT and doesn't stand the whiners and the morons. Steve I LOVED the voiceover, you do it so well. I know it's extra work but I hope you do more voiceovers, it really adds something to the videos imo. Awesome work 👍
Id follow your lead there is ice under your tires there is very little tire spray to see and that is always something I watch for because it tells a lot about the roads and ice ty for letting me share Matt AKA DDP be safe out there My friend and brother and friends and everybody yuuuuup ps keep it between the lines yuuuuup
Steve, you probably know this but most state DOT's have live camera feeds of a lot of roads and highways. Nice way to see exactly what the road ahead might look like.
Hey Steve, winter driving.... Ugh! High weights, you keep it under control. Great video, thanks for sharing. How's Orwell driving with the new front end? Like a Cadillac I'm thinking... Be safe in your travels brother. Git-R-Done!
I'm a diesel tech for a huge fleet and this kind of weather and those kinds of breakdowns make the start of winter a headache. I had 7 days of pto left this year and decided ill take a nice long break before Christmas to try and avoid having to do road service in this wet slop we get this time of year. I'll deal with fuel gel and brake freezing when its -20 all day any day but having to lay in the wet slop when its 25-30 is just miserable. (EDIT- also having to drive to calls in this sucks too as is shown in your video.)
I was headed up to Marshfield on 39 through this garbage monday, watched a daycab try to overtake another driver heading south, day cab got right to about even with the other truck and put both of them down in the sticks all tangled up.
that thar j bar saved ya, and to think fleet trucks dont have these anymore with their little automatics in their rigs for these huge companies now a days, be safe out there.
Too many people out there unaware of the severity of the conditions. Your common sense and experience keeps you safe. Good call to shut down.
When it is bad weather go as slow as you feel safe, not what the signs say... Going posted speed will only get you in a ditch and risk your load... Good idea to shut down in a safe area...Give DOT time to get the interstates then hwy then county roads serviced...

TMC doesn't push you to drive, you can shut down if you feel unsafe and they won't harass you. @juskiiiiiii
Captain of the ship
I don't care how far behind schedule I am, as long as I get there safely. I've pulled over plenty of times and quit driving when conditions are bad.
Best not to set out in the first place with that kind of load in those kinds of conditions.
Nice save Steve. Be safe out there driver. 👍👍
You are somebody who saves lives with both your actions and by sharing your experience. From the public motorist: Thank you.
People complain that drivers don't have radios in their trucks anymore but this is the stuff we hear.. Nice save by the way! Orwell had a diamond factory in it for a bit haha.
I hate CB radios the only time I'd have mine on is in bad weather
Yep. I get funny looks and couldn't care less. Five minutes at the truck stop and it's obvious what you're gonna hear on those things 99% of the time -- nothing but garbage. Rather run solo and quiet.
Yyy_y6ayyyyy
Yt?
Always drive a speed that you are comfortable with

It's not a huge cabover, just a regular ol cabover. Not any bigger than the others that are left. It's actually small compared to modern trucks.
@Boga217 ya okay whatever you say..
Is a cab-over in these conditions particularly any different to a conventional truck? Is it something to do with the wheelbase generally being smaller on average?
@cjeam9199 just a lot taller wider and weight is placed differently
The fact that these other truck drivers are blowing right past you just baffles me. Those are the ones that are gonna cause an accident and end up on the side of the road. Be safe out there.
Hey Steve! It takes nerves of steel in this type of weather to handle an overweight load such as this fire truck! Great job!!
Better safe than sorry, there’s always tomorrow.
19:19 I'm the manager 😂That's another classic one liner.
Yep. That was always my dad's answer to conditions like that. "Time to park it & take a nap."
I’m glad to see you made the right call. It doesn’t take a “BOMB Cyclone, run for your lives” to need to make a bad situation. It’s the little ones that get you as you said.
Love the different camera angles you use. Espacially the one on the trailer facing forward is cool.
Nice job using the trailer brakes to assist in stopping that skid. All that weight and momentum is a force to be reckoned with on ice.
@fsctrucking great save Steve and great idea calling it quits for a bit
Some awesome driving as usual from you and Orwell.
When he started sliding, I was shouting 'Orwell' at the TV.
🇬🇧 🇱🇷
Orwell was trying out for Discovery Channel Ice Road Truckers
I just finished watching one of your videos from a few months ago when you saw the KW cabover in Ohio, and I find you dropped this video. Damn that was scary when you started skidding. Good save.

@ 18.15 the guy was a no nothing warm weather driver. All talk no shack in the back. Safe travels Steve. Merry Christmas.
Greg.
Proud of you Steve for showing that you and others care about safety over all else. Keep on giving great vids.👍
Safety First and if they don't like it we will pass them in the ditch further up! Always drive according to ones ability's and the weight and all the factors involved. We all want to make it home.
even in the carolinas/ georgia, you deal with freezing rain/ ice rather deal with snow covered roads than the ice

4:05 bruh!! Professional driving right there
Hell yea amen
Best save he could do! No trailer hand brake he would would have most likely jack knifed
Right? Didn’t even affect his phone call.
@@hieronymusbosch6255staying calm is the key
T Hasl from Norway 🇧🇻 again. Drive carefully Steve. Your roads look like winter in Norway 😂
Hey Steve! Being Safe, Best Choice To Make Man. Good To be Watchin Your Stuff Again Man!
I love watching your videos. I’ve been trucking 20 years. You sir are a professional. Not too many of us left out here anymore. Be safe driver.
Nice driving Steve, you are the man
The basic rule. always keep your vehicle under your full control
By the way really nice save on the bridge ty for letting me share Matt AKA DDP be safe out there My friend and brother and friends and everybody yuuuuup ps try to stay warm and have a good rest period yuuuuup

All it takes is one fork up to shut it all down
Great video Steve nice save on the bridge. Smart move to get off the road and try again later. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve.
Whooooo! A little sideways action going on there. That's scary stuff.
That a good thank god it not snowing like crazy
glad you made it home...i saw how fast others where driving around you an they are nuts
Im not even driving but I ate my seat on that bridge, good job keeping it together! Ice SUCKS!
Absolutely love that cab over! That’s trucking right there! Nice job Sir!

When I was OTR, if I couldn't SAFELY maintain 45mph, I pulled it over till it cleared...
Your videos are awesome .yout music you have been playing in the last videos are really awesome .they set the mood for that time of the video .keep up the awesome job and for the people that really give you guff tell them For Get About It.
Agree on the cool music
I am not a trucker. But I must say that Steve is a top-notch mentor. Reasonable, careful and level-headed.
That was a good call to shut it down with those weather conditions and that much weight. I wouldn’t change a thing about your driving bro. You are spot on . Great call to stop.
I know exactly where you started this video, Kwik trip, exit 97 off I-41, Fond du lac, Wisconsin. Headed southbound, stopped at rest area near Lomira!
Hey stave how are you doing today my friend I like watching your TH-cam videos and they are very educated and I like the way you explain things to your viewers so any updates on the truck

Amazing it happened as soon as the phone call came

Pucker moment indeed I thought he was goin to wrinkle that cool bumper

Supposed to get 40 or a bit lower Wednesday You will enjoy it.

No kidding, it startled me when Orwell got a little sideways. Good save.
Classic Cabover trucking... I love this channel !!!!

Getting on that Interstate Hwy at 6:00 reminds me of your trip through Illinois a year or two ago. 😳
When I lived in LaCrosse Wi, I can remember you couldn’t rely on weather forecasts in the winter 🥶 😊

your a great driver sir . much respect to a tough job
woah that all looked too familiar! i was just in Fond Du Lac, didn't get the chance to see you tho!!
I grew up in fdl. From the looks of the weather, I'd rather be driving out on Lake Winnebago

As bad as my state can be at times (Illinois) the roads in the northern part would never look like that.
Hey Steve, winter driving.... Ugh! High weights, you keep it under control. Great video, thanks for sharing. How's Orwell driving with the new front end? Like a Cadillac I'm thinking... Be safe in your travels brother. Git-R-Done!
Great plan to stop , your truck is now priceless
Better to get the load there safe than not get there at all. Keep it between the ditches Steve🇺🇸👍
Well done decision...! Greetings from Germany !
Excellent editing skills Steve. Great video!
💯👍🇺🇸
Whew, that was a close one. That snow on the bridge turned to ice, slippery than snot.

I'm a diesel tech for a huge fleet and this kind of weather and those kinds of breakdowns make the start of winter a headache. Good evening brother it's that time of year again be safe 🙏
Becca got some magnetic mount red strobes she used on her steel over sized. Might be something you are interested in
They think if you're not tailgating you're going too slow the tailgaters who caused accidents
I was headed up to Marshfield on 39 through this garbage monday, watched a daycab try to overtake another driver heading south, day cab got right to about even with the other truck and put both of them down in the sticks all tangled up.
Common Sense wins every time. Glad you pulled over.😊
he sounds like a freight hauler I ran into back in the 80s when I was on the road.
Your CB interactions are hilarious
Be Safe! 🙏
Old timer once told me to never set my tractor trailer breaks in a bad weather.Saves time having to get under and hammer loose the ice on the brakes
Unless your heavy. If your heavy you set truck and trailer brakes and not be lazy about it
There’s always some A hole that wants to go fast in bad weather 🤨then when everyone else is diving for conditions
that thar j bar saved ya, and to think fleet trucks dont have these anymore with their little automatics in their rigs for these huge companies now a days, be safe out there.
not sure when you changed the outro music but i like it. stay greasy and rolling
They’ll blame climate change, truth is it’s called winter time
4:04 damn. Orwell not liking snow.
Excellent driving brother !
