Looked like the Pony Motor was moving around like the bolts are loose.. Good work guys . I'm still running my 68 Cat D7E .. The oldies were built to last..🐎🥃😎👌
Like the other guy said, on the first start of the day, get the pony motor running and warm enough to roll the diesel without stalling the pony out. Roll that diesel at a fast clip for 5 minutes or longer the put some heat in the diesel, the pony heats the coolant and a lot of them have their exhaust ducted through the intake manifold on the diesel to heat the air. After it’s run a decent amount of time, give the diesel some fuel, it should smoke white and then start after a minute or so. Turn the gas to the pony off and let it run dry to prevent gas from getting in the oil and ruining the pony. Never turn it off with the mag switch.
I always find it entertaining to read in the comment sections below where viewers condemn the use of starting fluid even though the old manufacture manuals from Cat and Euclid actually suggest it, especially in cold weather.
My father was part of developing a sand pit. Getting rid of all the overburden they had a D9 [with from memory hydraulics? ]and a near new Terex scraper. They got the D9 well and truly bogged,, to the radiator cap!! nose down. They found a wat spot! This around 1970. They dug around it then tried to pull it out with the scraper, than the scraper and the big Hough front end loader. It did not move.Eventually when the weather dried up,, like 3 months later they eventually got it out with another D9 plus the scraper and loader. It left a big squelchy hole! That noise from the pony engine,, I remember that from around the area as our semi rural area became semi metro. Dozers running on 2 sides of ut
Looks like an 18A CAT D9 direct drive, possibly a 19A with a torque converter drive but cannot see enough. 1956 will be the first year of manufacture.......in real nice condition, still a lot of work left in her, blade or scraper.
That looks like a old soviet dozer the cab even a lgp or wide track model from Alaska the Dalton pass maybe just things older fella have taught me the nose and cable set up like a elucid set up the cat usally ran the cable or the top like the international dozers but cool man the 50s style seem it have the hydro set up bit you never know built on site fron crate . In the oil fiel I can see it take the blade cables off and use as the the hoist and rod set up cool stuff
Never, ever, EVER use starting fluid on a diesel engine that has a pony motor. The pony motor is there to warm up the diesel engine and start it. If the diesel engine wont start with a pony motor, there IS something wrong and no amount of starting fluid will get it running anyway.
Your right never ever use easy start to a engine it's like a drug when your engine gets addicted to it ,it cause all kinds of problems in the UK the small engine to start the cat is called a donkey engine,😊,
@charleswalton5132 easy start dries the bore's making it harder for the engine to start and eventually causing more damage especially on high mileage engines
D 353 runs about 1200 rpm. Same engine as a 36 A or 46 A D-9, but they run1-2 hundred rm faster. Thus more hp. Looks like a direct drive making it an 18A. We had one we used farming . It would pull a train of implements at 4 mph.

Pop gave it a little smelling salts and it came to life. I love to see people bringing old iron back to life
What a nice piece of old iron. Love the sound of the turbo. Lucky you!!
Watching these two men sit and chat reminds me of that ole commercial of Bartle and James, Thank you for your support.
Not too bad for a "young rookie" ! And that ol' niner is still so powerful, nice !
I guess if you are gonna learn, you may as well start out big! What a great old gal you got there, congrats =)
Wow that d9 is clean. And with a cab,!

Beautiful machine

I see you getting it stuck in the future. You’re going to need the D7
She is fitted with the pedestal seat and also heard the man refer to sixth gear so I would definitely say an 18A direct drive model 😉👍
Absolutely fantastic vid & machinery
Thank you!
@@vintageequipment3768 your welcome
A really big big tinker toy
Way too much fun 🤩
I never never used starting fluid to start a motor with a pony motor.
Nice machine 😊
I'm 75 years old and cut my teeth on equipment like C Pull scrapers
Wow such a cheerful fella.
Well done fellas !!

Wow, nice condition. What's with the blue firebird sitting there?
Ha, I figured someone would like to see that. Made sure to get a shot of it.
D9's are rare. One with a cab more so.AL B.
CAT D353 engine ! it is fitted with standard grouser pads.
Magnificent

the fan blades can be turned to blow out in the summer and in for winter .
That old girl sounds and runs like she just came off the assembly line.
I want one!
On face book
Friends of the stretch D8
It’s about the D8 cats that worked in Antarctica for 50 years
Can't believe it doesn't smoke at all. Must not have too many hours on it.

No a 318 is a d6 engine, also cat 12 graders, I don’t know the number of a d9 engine 2:14

@@timhund5914 thanks 🙏 I had figured out my mistake a little later.
It’s a old cat 1693
what a toy
Stop using fast start ,it'll remove all the carbon build up, not good for engines
...
Before you own one you should learn how to run one
Gilla dela prenumerera på programmet 😃
