- Rail Disasters is a Train Simulator series simulating and recreating the events of real-world train accidents
Episode 24- Runaway Train: Canadian Edition
On the early morning hours of July 6, 2013, an unmanned freight train carrying tons of crude oil derails in a small Canadian province flattening its downtown area and killing 47 people. Investigators find loads of crucial evidence from the railroad's operating culture to its safety regulations that could have caused one of Canada's worst rail disaster in recent years.

This happened in my Province, Quebec, Canada. All the province was in shook when we saw this. I remember where I was, when it was and what I was doing when this happened. To this day it fears me. Thank you for making the sole wreck of my province.
Thank you for taking my recommendation! This one stuck with me ever since I saw it on Thunderbolt 1000 Siren Productions.
Thank you so much for uploading this with the 7th anniversary around the corner.
Today marks the 7th anniversary of this disaster. And may all 47 people who lost their lives on this day Rest In Peace. And to this day this train wreck marks the worst train wreck in Canada history. Hopefully something like this will never be repeated.
hm. today is the 8th anniversary.
@@brandomgamingandtraining777 ik, i made this comment last year on the 7th anniversary of this tragic disaster
Well you've completed the nova "Why Trains Crash" trilogy. Congrats.
I assume the f45s are replacing the c30-7 because you don't have a TS2020 c30-7?
WELL DONE YOU 2 FOR JOINING TOGETHER!!!.👍
You do great jobs on everything
The crazy 8 incident but it is ends badly:
July 6th, 2013 after 4th, 63 Tank Cars derailed and explore into a fireball. 47 were killed.
Such exciting, suspenseful music!
I remeber seeing the whole thing on the news. What a disaster
@PennCentral670 I Remember Hearing About This From My Parents When This Ocurred. Also, Do You Think You'll Do The CSX Mount Carbon Derailment?
I can't wait for it to come, keep up the good work too, cheif!😉
Excuse me but do you the link to the runaway theme?
Also you could do a redo of the 1994 runaway because there is a atsf c40/b40-8in the game
Thanks PennCentral670
If I may ask, where did you get the Runaway theme you used from?
Dude its from Thomas the tank engine

The what?
Why aren't train brakes where they are applied without air pressure. Trucks have it why not trains
Because trucks use spring brake chambers which are normally set and require air pressure to release. They require two air lines and are quite complicated. Trains use a single brake line (train pipe) to control the brakes, which is a lot simpler when you you’ve got multiple cars behind a locomotive. The downside is that once you lose air pressure in the cars’ air tanks, the brakes release. That’s why the cars have mechanical hand brakes which are supposed to be wound on if you stop on a grade and don’t have guaranteed air pressure, like in this case when the train is stopped overnight with no one on board the locomotives.
Any chance of doing the Salem train disaster
Guess the game doesn’t have c30-7s
Do the Harvey Illionis Wreck
If possible could you do the the thing where the guy intentionally derailed the train
I loved seeing a SD60 fly down the tracks with a nice conrail engine.
?????
I love the Thomas theme song
I feel like the guy @2:20 coulda prevented all of this.......
I love this crash
Oh yeah
Goof: The locomotives in the simulation are wrong, as there are F45s instead of C30-7s and the SD40-2s are painted for BN and Conrail instead of CITX and CEFX
Aware, these locos are the closet I could get to the real thing in my TS collection, not everything in the simulator is 100% accurate.

How It Happened: A BNSF Coal Train crew had fallen asleep and the train rear ended a BNSF Maintenance Train

These videos are fascinating, however they are impossible to watch because of the captioning covers the entire screen almost all the time.

For Thunder Bolt 1000 and you penn
What type of Thomas and friends runaway train theme is that
Can we please get a video, of how the Infinite Disaster, know as Penn Central (NYC side), lost the entire Potato Crop of Maine.
How did you change the numbers on the locomotives?
when u place them,go to trains tab,it will have a questionmark, click that and click the number,
You should make the Wellington CSX train crash
The thing spewed fire and oil but MMA(Montreal maine & Antlantic Railroad(the Railroad that owned the units))was like:naa its fine, just some motor ishues, nothing baaad or to worry about, just fine, put on some hand brakes and then the we dont have to pay the driver more.
st John NB, not st John's NB , st.John's is a city in NFLD, there is no st John's NB
Can’t believe they use these much carriaged
But I'm glad that the locomotives survived
Guess that's the only happy thing I'm amazed how the locomotives didn't derail if it they did it would have been a lot worse
Excuse me. Can you produce a video about the 10 worst rail disasters in history?
Here are the worst rail disasters:
1. On Fire at High Speed (El Ayyat Rail Disaster)
2. Off the Bridge : Ethiopian Edition (Awash Rail Disaster)
3. Runaway Train : Spanish Edition (Torre del Bierzo Rail Disaster)
4. Death by Asphyxiation / Final Destination (Balvano Rail Disaster)
5. Critical Mass (Ufa Rail Disaster)
6. Into the Ravine (1915 Guadalajara Rail Disaster)
7. Into the River / Washed Away (Bihar Rail Disaster)
8. Runaway Train : Romanian Edition (Ciurea Rail Disaster)
9. Runaway Train : French Edition (Saint Michel de Maurienne derailment)
10. Tsunami Tumble (Peraliya Train Tsunami / 2004 Sri Lanka Tsunami Train Wreck)
This is my suggestion. Is it too hard?
1. On Fire at High Speed (El Ayyat Rail Disaster (Arabic:))
Type: Fire
Cause: Explosion of a gas cylinder, overcrowding and lack of communication are also factors
Deaths : Disputed, 383 (official) - 1000+? (unofficial)
Locomotive : ?
At 2:00 in the morning of 20 February 2002, a gas cylinder exploded on an eleven-carriage train from Cairo to Luxor, causing a fire that destroyed seven third-class carriages. The official death toll was 383, but was considered inaccurate due to the fact that the passenger list was missing and the carriages were carrying at least double their capacity. It is the largest train accident in Egyptian history.
2. Off the Bridge : Ethiopian Edition (Awash Derailment (Ethiopian:))
Type : Derailment
Cause : Overspeeding
Deaths : 428
Locomotive : ?
On January 13, 1985, a five-car express train derailed on a curving bridge in Awash, Ethiopia. The derailment killed at least 428 people. It is the worst rail accident in Ethiopia and Africa.
3. Runaway Train : Spanish Edition (Torre del Bierzo Rail Disaster (Spanish: Accidente Ferroviario Torre del Bierzo))
Type : Collision
Cause : Defective brakes (first collision) and broken signal (second collision)
Deaths : Disputed, 78 (official), 100+ (most recent research), 200-250 (unofficial), 500-800+? (recent sources and Guinness World Record)
Locomotive : RENFE Class 240 (Galicia mail), ? (Shunting Locomotive), RENFE Class 151 (coal) (The coal train locomotive is still preserved in a museum)
On 3 January 1944, at Torre del Bierzo in Spain, a mail and express train lost its brakes and became a runaway, later crashing into a shunting engine at Tunnel no. 20. Due to a broken signal caused by the first collision, a coal train later crashed into the wreckage, causing a huge two-day fire. The Francoist authorities stated that 78 people died, however this was believed to be inaccurate. Sources from the time believed that 200 - 250 people were killed due to the train concerned, Galicia Mail, was carrying a lot of passengers for the holidays. The Guinness World Record even stated the probably exaggerated 500 - 800+ deaths. Nevertheless, it is still one of the worst rail accidents in Spanish history.
4. Final Destination / Lost in Transit / The Black Market Express (Balvano Rail Disaster (Italian: Disastro di Balvano/Sciagura del Treno 8017)
Type : Mass asphyxiation
Cause : Bad coal, slippery rails, overloading, the tunnel's lack of ventilation, among many other factors
Deaths : Disputed, 517 (officially, some sources say 521)-600+
Locomotives : FS class 480, FS class 476
On the night between 2-3 March 1944, train no. 8017 stalled in the Armi Tunnel in Balvano, Italy. The train could not go on due to slippery rails, overloading by illegal passengers and rumoured bad coal. The coal produced lots of carbon monoxide that filled the tunnel, killing most of the passengers. It is the worst rail accident in Italy, one of the worst rail disasters, and the most bizarre of its kind.
5. Critical Mass (Ufa Rail Disaster (Russian:))
Type : Explosion
Cause : Faulty gas pipeline creating a cloud of explosive gas, which ignited. The cause of ignition is probably sparks from the trains' wheels or pantograph, or a passenger's cigarette, among many other factors
Deaths : 575+ (unofficial sources speak of 645 - 780 deaths)
Locomotives : VL10 and ChS2
On 4 June 1989, a cloud of gas produced from a faulty pipeline, ignited when two trains passed each other near Ufa, Russia. The trains were carrying children and holidaymakers. The explosion burned the surrounding trees, seen from many kilometers away, and destroyed both trains with a power rumored to be equal to an a-bomb. It is the worst rail accident in Soviet and Russian history, notwithstanding the obscure 1944 Vereshchyovka Wreck.
6. Into the Ravine (1915 Guadalajara Rail Disaster (Spanish: Accidente Ferroviario Jalisco)
Type : Derailment
Cause : Overloaded train and defective brakes, rumoured sabotage also likely
Deaths : 600+
Locomotives : ?
During the Mexican Revolution of 1915, a train carrying families of troops lost control and fell into a ravine in Guadalajara, killing most of the passengers aboard. This resulted in the worst rail accident in North America and Mexico.
7. Into the River / Washed Away : Indian Edition (Bihar Rail Disaster (Hindi:))
Type : Derailment
Cause : Unknown (Either a cyclone, a flash flood, or a COW), slippery rails and defective brakes might have been factors
Deaths : Disputed, 235 (offcial), 500-800? (unofficial)
Locomotive : ?
On 6 June 1981, an overloaded train derailed on a bridge and plunged into the Bhagmati River in Bihar, India. The carriages and its passengers quickly sank as the river was above its normal levels due to the monsoon season. The disaster is not widely documented, even the cause of the disaster is not known. There are at least three theories about the cause of the disaster, with the most famous one being a COW. Notwithstanding the cause, it is the worst rail accident in India.
8. Runaway Train : Romanian Edition (Ciurea Rail Disaster (Romanian: Catastrofa feroviara de la Ciurea))
Type : Derailment
Cause : Unknown, because there is no known investigation (most likely a broken brake pipe due to overloading, exacerbated by the rumoured accidental closure of the broken brake pipe)
Deaths : Disputed, 500-600 (best estimates), 800-1000+? (most recent sources)
Locomotives : CFR 456 and ?
The Ciurea Catastrophe happened on 13 January 1917, as Romania was losing WW1. In this not well documented disaster, an overloaded train became a runaway, then derailed and burst into flames after crashing into tanker cars at Ciurea station, maiming and burning the passengers. This is the worst rail accident in Romania.
9. Runaway Train : French Edition / Derailment of the Century (Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne Derailment (French: Acident/Catastrophe Ferroviaire Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne)
Type : Derailment
Cause : Overloading and defective brakes
Deaths : 675 (700 officially) - 1000+
Locomotive : PLM class 230
On 12 December 1917, a runaway troop train derailed in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and caught fire. It would become France's worst rail accident ever.
10. Watery Graves/ Washed Away : Sri Lankan Edition / Crash of the Century (Peraliya Train Tsunami (Tamil:))
Type : Washout
Cause : 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami
Deaths : Unknown exact numbers, estimated 900?, 1700+ - 2000+(probably)
Locomotive : M2a class (a G12)
On 26 December 2004, the train Queen of the Sea and the village of Peraliya in Sri Lanka were swept away by the 2004 tsunami. With an estimated 1700+ deaths, it is the worst rail disaster of all time.
Wow, that's a lot of suggestions! :0
