    The 68, 69 and 70 Charger is my favorite car of all time. Just beautiful automobiles from every angle! I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazzard like millions of other kids and the Dodge Charger became my favorite car. Thank you for saving this great car!

    I've always been a Mopar guy. Whenever I've redone a motor, I always use the turquois color. To me, it looks better under the hood rather than orange or any other color. It doesn't hurt that blue is my favorite color anyway? The 440 is looking really good Dylan! Looking forward to seeing it finished and in the Charger!

    Great work sir! Torn down my 440 to the block and had it machined......a few issues were found and corrected. Total joy getting all the parts and getting her back in and running. Nothing better.

    Watch your oil pressure close with that windage tray, I had issues in both of my big block builds with the tray holding oil on top and not allowing the oil return back to the pan fast, I ended up putting a few rows of holes in the center of the tray and that fixed my oiling issues and did not appear to rob any of the performance gains, you may not have the issue with the bigger pan, as always enjoy your work !

    • @randyrhodes7526
      @randyrhodes7526 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve 1961P. I agree the tray is designed to keep oil below it and away from the crankshaft but as I say the oil pressure issue did happen on 2 B.B. builds
      I had lots of oil pressure dropping to zero issues on deceleration with windage trays for whatever the reason was, the trays looked just like Dylan's I would take them out and the issue would go away, I found later that I could drill a few rows of 1/4 inch inch holes the center of the tray and the issue would go away , just putting out things that happen to me on 2 big block builds, I know the tray is open at each end and on deceleration and breaking oil should not stay on top of the tray but for whatever the reason was it happened and the holes would stop the issue, this was 30 years ago, I was running HV Melling pumps, Just sharing things from my mopar days.

      @zakpeterson6713 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea those windage trays block off way way to much to the pan. They cause the crank to constantly whip the oil around with not enough drain back. Modern windage trays are more of an oil scraper with either loovers or screens so the oil can be swept off the crank and into the pan. It would be worth customizing that windage tray with slots and holes.

    • @marshalllhiepler
      @marshalllhiepler 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any windage tray that "retains" oil in the crank area, and prevents it from returning to the sump ... is an autrocity to internal combustion engines.
      Talk about an engineering fail. The result is the opposite of the objective. It literally accumulates oil in the rotating components, increases windage, and reduces power. (Not to mention the spun rod bearings.)
      Let me guess, it was designed by the engineering department of the Special Olympics Coalition? 😃

  • @KASCH570
    @KASCH570 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure if this matters or not on a 440. I had a high volume oil pump on my 327 (from previous owner) and after we dis-assembled the motor we found that all the main bearings for the crank were completely shot, engine had roughly 20k miles since it was last rebuilt. I learned that in my case the high volume oil pump was pumping oil so fast to the upper end of the engine that it ended up starving the main bearings of oil. After doing a complete rebuild, blue print and balanced we went back to a good normal volume pump and all is well. My driving oil pressure is about 50 psi, cold start about 70 psi, low idle around 30 psi.

  • @adamtrombino106
    @adamtrombino106 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Factory HD, HO, and Marine engines had windage trays as well as dual roller timing gear sets. They also had the HD shot peaned rods, hd bearings, and high volume oil pumps. Side note, I really hope you degreed that cam and didn't just set it straight up.. Looking forward to the next vid!

  • @CoastalAutoReactionCAR
    @CoastalAutoReactionCAR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have that oil pump in my 68 383 FYI it will EMPTY THE PAN under hard throttle so keep it on the full side also don’t be shocked at 70lbs at idle.
    Also have that water pump check the fin clearance before you fire it other than that works mint. Cold case looks like they have a really good product looking at going with them on my 66 charger look forward to seeing how it works for you!

    Does anyone know of a good guide on how to do certain engine mods like a camshaft? I’ve looked around but they only show how to install it, not any supporting mods that may be necessary or how to tune the car after if it’s necessary.

    • @SophiaAphrodite
      @SophiaAphrodite 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Places like Summit sell complete kits that include matched cam/intake last I knew. They also show the HP specs for that application. There is no need to overthink it unless you intend to race it. Many cam companies will have a sheet that will tell you how many degrees your cam will be off standard. Degreeing your cam is not necessary really. I have never had to for any cam I installed.

    • @jordanwiley4582
      @jordanwiley4582 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Supporting mods can be as much or as little as you want. Cam itself (have to have new lifters if a flat tappet). or cam, springs, valve job, vale stem seals, headers, cylinder heads, etc.

    Lots of antifreeze got poured on the ground with a dog nearby.
    What's the process for cleaning that up?

    Looking good.. So glad to see you uploaded a new video.. And loved the Cold Case products, and all the other new parts! Now i can't wait to see this thing running.. I redone a 1968 Ford F-100 custom cab, short bed, and i did the engine in the Ford blue, and i replaced every bolt that could be seen, with gloss black bolts.. It looked really good.. I hope you had a great weekend, and that you have an even better week, can't wait to see your next upload.. Peace!

    Thank you for your channel. That's very interesting. I am from Russia and we have almost no American old cars.

    get rid of the windage tray. You got HV oil Pump. Atta boy on getting the larger oil pan. If you hadn't you may have sucked your pan dry especially with the tray.

    just seen this as going through charger videos :) i take it it the crank and the shells were ok! i would have taken them out just to check, seen Chris from junkerup build many of these engines and found after taking it all apart expecting a good engine was near junk.

    Dylan McCool the timing chain gear was not plastic? So is that not original?

    Dylan, maybe I'm confused, but why do you want to rebuild the 440, then pull all that trick stuff off of it and put it all on a 383?
