    Finally a direct b27 and ksm32 comparison. B27 sounded the best. Was definitely the warmest sounding

      Everyone goes on about the 32 but the b27 seems more versatile.

      I liked the Beta 27 on his voice. I think it might help that he has a light-sounding voice and the Beta 27 kind-of rolled off the edge you get with a light voice

      Hi, Shure Beta 58A may sound better than the B27.

  • @FabseHo
    @FabseHo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Vielen vielen Dank für diesen Vergleich. Ich bin seit Jahren auf der suche nach einem Mikro, welches meiner tiefen Stimme schmeichelt ohne es muffig klingen zu lassen, aber auch nicht zu viele Höhen hat, da meine S und Z Laute etwas harsch und crispy sind. Von dynamischen und Kondensatoren, über Klein- zu Großmembran Mikros war alles dabei. Und auch in verschiedenen Ausführungen zwischen 60 und 500€. Das ist jetzt das neunte Mikro welches ich hier habe und endlich bin ich angekommen. Bei allen anderen Mikros musste ich viel mit EQ arbeiten, um irgendwie in Richtug meines Ziels zu kommen. Das nun habe ich am 286s angeschlossen, minimal DeEsser, minimal Bass, fertig. Vorher musste ich den kompletten Frequenzgang verzerren, damit es irgendwie das tut, was ich wolllte.
    Es ist das beta 27 geworden. Der warme Sound mit dem linearen Frequenzgang und dem leichten Höhenboost ist perfekt. Zumindest hier in DE ist das ein absolut unbekanntes Mikrofon. Und ich frage mich warum. Es klingt ähnlich dem KSM32 (500€+), welches schon mit dem TLM103(1000€+) verglichen wurde, was auch ähnlich klingt, und kostet gerade mal 400€. Auch wenn ich es zweckentfremde, was du ja auch getan hast, klingt es großartig an Stimmen. Nicht nur Intrumentenmikrofon. Es kann viel mehr!

    Having tried lots of microphones in a home studio environment, it usually surprises me how more similar they sound in these type of shootouts on youtube. I don't know why that is, because like you mention in the video - often when heard live in the studio a mic like the ksm32 often has some extra quality that jumps out at you that cheaper mics often don't have, while it's more difficult to hear the differences on youtube. Maybe my headphones aren't up to the task, but I wonder if something is lost by youtube itself? I had a similar experience when I paid up for a TLM103 - I ended up using it on almost everything I recorded - it was just so much better than the other mics I had for some stuff like acoustic guitar, drums, and I liked for vocals also, but I wasn't hearing the difference on online shootouts even though it was clear in practical use. Thanks for the excellent video.

    • @EdwardSmithMusic
      @EdwardSmithMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a very good point! Sometimes I listen back to the singing tests, and I also struggle to hear a clear difference. Thanks for watching though 🙏🏻

  • @Andre_Ang
    @Andre_Ang 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Honestly when mixed the difference is pretty subtle. With enough EQ and processing you can get a 100 dollar mic to sound like other mics depending on frequency response. Good video like always man👍

    Great video, I was looking for a comparison like this. The ksm32 is a workhorse (I used it a lot), it sounds good on almost any source. Technically it is not an LDC, the size of the capsule is 3/4 of an inch and it is an electret microphone, this means that the capsule is permanently polarized and does not need an external voltage to polarize it. The ksm27, sm27 and beta 27 (I think) have the same capsule as the shure ksm44 and are externally polarized true condenser. This microphones (the 27s) has the most typical LDC frequency peak which sometimes makes it sounds better or worse than the ksm32 in certain sources, the 32 being more linear is more permissive. You missed the KSM44 for comparison, wich it's the multipattern LDC condenser from Shure, but theoretically in cardioid mode it should be similar to the SM27.
