I saw this video yesterday .. I bought a new sensor but the guy on the store gave me the wrong one .. the old sensor was out already so I decide to wash it I dip the sensor on pain thiner or paint reducer ford 30 minutes then spray some brake cleaner and put it back on my car .. like a miracle the p0138 code has gone with out reset anything I'm happy I save 170 dollars .. by the way this old sensor is 196000 miles and car is 2005 camry .. light is gone gone . I save that money thanks to that idiot at the store 😁 so happy
How long did it last?
@@green3488 afew weeks only
Was there any difference before and after cleaning, such as fuel consumption, engine power, etc ?
@AAA-zj9yb in the camry just the light went for few weeks. But no difference car runs great with no powertrain issues .. just the o2 code ..
Looks like the best option is just to replace them, that's what I would do anyway.
My friend replaced his and it ran worse, cleaned his old ones, runs better. I'm sure that isn't always the case but there you go.
@@soultekkamusic115 I'm guessing that it is just the computer adjusted it self on the old ones readings.. so with new ones you just need to wait for the computer to realign itself with the fresh readings
Ived cleaned them with soaking them in brake fluid, then I brush all the gunk off and have noticed a change in the way it runs!!
I hope you mean brake cleaner and not actual brake fluid lol
@@DavidGarcia-uz3ox 😆🤣🌶🚘
I wouldn't recommend that. Chlorinated brake cleaner converts to phosgene gas at 315 degrees. So, you wouldn't want to be near an exhaust system that has parts with any brake cleaner still on them when the vehicle is started up. This is usually a concern of welders, as the heat is more immediate and extreme, but I would still switch to an electric parts cleaner to avoid the risk.
@therealjohneason Seems like it would evaporate before being an issue though.
🤣🤣🤝 “ 2:52 so my personal thoughts is , just get new o2 sensors. “. I was going to do this? But you sealed it for me. 💯🤝
Yeah I think cleaning is for maintenance
I did this with Berryman’s carb cleaner. Soaked it for 2 days. The CEL came back after one week just before going in for emissions 🤨
cleaner is good to use as maintenance. couldn't hurt its the same as using maf cleaner. could also be used to clean the part before using it in the car to take any debris from manufacturing and handling
Same here, they just get burnt out and have to be replaced.
My OE sensors lasted 20-21 years
Dishwasher liquid .......... for cleaning the O2 sensor as well as the CAT converter....... Fill a bucket with hot water and dishwasher liquid and leave those sensors and the CAT in it overnight ......next morning give it a little shake and refill the bucket with fresh clean hot water and dish liqiud ......let it stay for another couple hours.....give it another shake then take it out and let completely dry before installing back.......i even use dishwasher liquid and laundry washing powder to clean and unclogg my radiator and entire coolant system....works like a bomb
So, you don't even clean the soap off of the items with pure water?
Short answer you can't just buy new ones I was hoping I could clean them to make them like new too 😭
Wow..that is a very nice wel l Care of mustang 👌 lol😄🚘..I like the cobra on the back..also..lol Don't sell them because they won't make this style no more..( "New Edge")
27 seconds of listening to exhaust. :)
It would have made me so mad if it worked considering I just bought new ones. Lol
On a diesel, I'm wondering if the DPF cleaner products may do the trick? Kind of doubting it. But want to try some experiments.
btw 0.1M of both citric and oxalic acid works much better than any bottled snakeoil. Can also do citric and HCl
used “ the light CRC addictive Gasoline 300ml )* we can purchase cheaply everywhere ! This is pretty blast to clean this sensor and CRC intake valve cleaner can do the faster too and it’s worked😂
I use to have a backfire pop & crackle tune on my GT86 for about 2-3 years , I’m assuming my precat o2 sensor is in need of new replacement , I dont think it’s cleanable
Yeah, probably very rich on the tune
Wow mine is over 10 years old and looks super clean.
IT looks nothing like yours at all. I mean even after you cleaned yours, I have zero carbon etc..
I pulled it out 2 nights ago and sprayed inside and put it back. IT was already clean.
I only did this 1 time before a year ago. Not sure why mine don't get dirty like yours.
Mine is running rich (too much fuel) from an aftermarket tune
Interesting: Utah plates, but km/h on the speedo. I'm impressed, since the USA uses the antiquated British system (miles) still.
It has mph as the big numbers and kmh as the small numbers
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Got'cha. All Hail the British King. [ *not* ] But America still loves those Kings, so "whatever".
I heard any kinda cleaning would disable/ degrade these chemically fragile sensors. Also, whatever caused them to fail/clog, should be resolved foist. Great vid👍
Just age can cause them to fail.
He literally said he needed to have it retuned.
Thanks Danny 🔥🔥
And here I am taking a nylon brush and brushing the hell out of them... all carbon came off but I do wonder If it work if I put it back in... I'll never know it was a pain to remove mine and putting a knew one in.. and keeping the old one just in case.
the actual sensor is inside. So brushing or cleaning the outer metal wont do anything. You need to get inside those little holes. That's why using a cleaner to soak, spray, or using ultrasonic cleaning is really the only way.
If I am clean the catalytic converter the open tha 1 oxygen sensor and not open 2 oxygen sensor
And clean the catalytic converter then oxygen sensor create the problem or not bacuse camical and water spray on oxygen sensor
Hey Danny I am trying to find oem front and rear springs for my 03 Cobra (car has eibach reds and is too low for me) I've posted to svtperformance but haven't had any luck. Any advise?
I would check eBay. And the rear springs are different for a convertible FYI
👍
Can U clean I'm with wd40
Mass air flow sensor cleaner?
Perhaps. They make an actual o2 sensor cleaner, but I’d put the money towards new sensors. I had the gas 😃
Using gas is a bad idea because you now have dirty gas to get rid of. Most people don't have the means of disposing of gasoline properly so some idots will flush it down the toilet, or pour it out into the soil.
Will absorbers work like the type you sweep
You probably are an EPA puppet!
Many other ways to dispose of it. Most gasoline has ethanol, so, it's facking dirty already. Just my 2 cents; now exude me I have to go dump something in the river behind the house.
Use a paint filter and reuse the gas in your old lawnmower. May have to run it thru twice.
What's wrong with pouring it out on soil?
The way I usually dispose of dirty gasoline is I use it to start fires to dispose of other garbage. Call me an idiot if you want, but it works great as long as you're not stupid.
The tips of yours were white(ish) I changed mine 2 days ago and they were black as black could be..running to rich? Coz it eats o2's like candy lol smh
Yeah, white would be lean and it may be leaning out because it is running too rich
GEE, MAYBE GASOLINE IS THE WRONG APPROACH
If it did work, I would still replace to be on the safe side. Besides, you did all the work of taking it out and putting it back. So, only savings is the part.
With the o/r x it’s pretty easy to remove them. But yeah, I have new ones in. I just thought I’d try it
Cheap on ebay!
Might be knock offs
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I always use them, when buying from ebay I always ck reviews and compare quality, plus im doing the work my self saving labor costs too!
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage : yeah it they're cheapie Chineseium, well they're not going to last, and often bad right out of the box.
Thanks
How long should I wait for it to dry before reinstalling?
Leave them Over night, outside
That might cause condensation.
Condensation would take way longer to dry than gasoline.
👍
did replacing solved your problem?
Yes. Ford updated the 02 sensor and it’s a lot more reactive. It knows the car is running rich and I’m getting the codes sooner th-cam.com/video/3IYs3QLEoJM/w-d-xo.html
coca cola, thank me later
Battery terminals maybe but not a sensor
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage can also use white vinegar and sodium bycarb.
i've used cola, it works
