    I'm surprised: I had thought they weren't positioning it as a dedicated sports car, more of a sporty economy coupe like the Accord coupes of old. Which isn't a bad thing either.
    FWD is not a big deal, honda does FWD better than many do AWD. Manual is worth celebrating!
    Could avoid turbo with a design that uses a big battery and sizable motor. Added option to easily convert it to full EV later.

    In early 2019 I drove by Schofield Honda in Wichita KS. They had 5-7 Honda Civic 2 door coups sitting on the lot, all parked in a line. The cars looked so cool! Sales were terrible however back then, it was pre-CV. I decided to test drive one of them just for fun, I sort of needed a small commuter car for long trips anyway. The battery was actually dead on the one I wanted to drive because the car had been sitting there for a few months! The dealer was so embarrassed when they had to jump start the car for me LOL. I drove the car and absolutely loved it! They gave me one hell of a deal! The car is worth more today than I paid for it in 2019! My wife and I fight over who gets to drive it. I even got a car seat in the back! Right after I bought it, we accidently got pregnant. Big problem for a new 2door car. I have drove around my now 3-year-old since she was born! I'm the only human on this planet that has crammed my butt into the back of a 2 door civic coup for the last 3 years putting my kid into a car seat! But god damn I love that car and want to get another 2 Door Honda!

    Copying and pasting a good interior should not be scoffed at. Honda’s interior is great because it is ergonomical. But copying and pasting a bad interior is lazy. Subaru and Mercedes are examples of that, because a lot of things are baked into the infotainment.

Honda only really has the type R at this point. I still think Toyota has really gone forward with providing the market with sports car and sporty vehicles with their GR brand. It is a far more unified and focused effort than anything Honda has been able to do in the past 10-15 years. I liken it to what F sport is to Lexus. Great vehciles but a little lost on what is actually meant by it.

    I would be excited if this was being sold with pricing near the Civic. Priced there it could be everything from the average person's, who doesn't need or doesn't want 4 doors, daily commuter to a fun second car to a semi-halo car for Honda (2 door Type R-ish). I expect this will most likely be closer in pricing to the BMW 2 series, especially if it is sold only as an Acura, and then we will get those sweet, sweet dealer markups making it unaffordable for the vast majority of buyers. Later, when it is cancelled in one or two product cycles, everyone will wonder why.

    I loved, and still do, the Honda Prelude line (gen 2, 3 and 5). The last gen was my favorite as the design is so elegant and timeless. The engine made good power at 200hps at the time, but in my opinion, it was priced less competitively than the Acura Integra GSR that makes 170hps and probably handles corners better. The puzzling thing about the gen 4 and 5 Prelude for me was why it wasn't rear wheel drive. With the long hood design that could fit the engine longitudinally and the non-existing back seat space that could allow for the differential in the back, it actually would make more sense to be RWD than FWD. If it was RWD, the pricing would have made sense too. With the 6th gen, I don't understand why at this day and age Honda is reviving a model with a hybrid. I think it may be better off being a full EV, and be a RWD.

    A manual transmission turbo hybrid Prelude would be sick. They could have a Prelude Si with the 1.5T + mild hybrid and a Prelude Si-R with the 2.0T + mild hybrid that slots in between the Civic Si and Civic Type R performance. Now, all Preludes have been FWD, but if there were to be a RWD Prelude, then they could call it the Prelude 2000 to honor the S2000 with the Prelude name badge and go balls to the wall.

    But to answer your question, I don't think I could choose between this and a Civic Type R. The Type R allows for more practical use if you have a family, this being a two door coupe doesn't. Rest of the car is fantastic but think the front end is a big miss. Nevermind the odd proportions of the DRLs. The only thing it should be reminiscent of is past models not an entirely different brand in Toyota.
    Revamp for the production model and Honda is golden on this

    The Prelude doesn’t need to be a track car, but it needs to have more power and tech as well as be slotted higher than the Civic and Integra. 0-60 under 5!seconds. Quarter mile time in the mid 14’s or better. I don’t think that’s an unrealistic demand list.

    3:39 Keep my expectations high? I want: The L15BE with a boosted version (Si) with a dual motor hybrid drivetrain driving the rear wheels. Put the manual in there as an option and don't tell me you cant do that. Its BS. You can i know enough about engineering.

      6:05 *GASP* Oh my... Would a 300hp Prelude not step on the toes of the Civic R? Unless you just wanna add a coupe to the gate which I'm not mad about at all. So is the 300ps the Type R Prelude? Si? What would the base be? Or is there a even more powerful Type R on the horizon? Dun dun duuuuun

    As a prelude lover I hate this car, it’s a CRZ sequel not a prelude sequel. That comes down to proportions more than anything though. If it was proportioned more like a prelude and still hybrid I’d be more happy. Honda’s gotten lazy so I see no point in this car, unless it’s affordable and handles amazingly I don’t see a point in getting this over an SI civic coupe or an HPD Accord Coupe. It’s back like the 90s where the prelude isn’t different enough from freshly used offerings to
    warrant it. IMO if they brought back the prelude make it about the size of a GR86 with a larger trunk and AWD as an option. I love FWD hybrid as a concept but it needs to be a small car.

  • @Scisca1a2a
    @Scisca1a2a 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Prelude looks great, but Honda has to embrace RWD more just like Mazda does. I'm not buying a FWD car as a toy and a sporty coupe is a toy. It looks great, but there won't be any reason to pick it up over a GT86

    A 200hp FWD hybrid coup seems destined to fail. The relatively small demand for coups is largely performance focused and that setup is notably worse than its competitors

    • @andrewb386
      @andrewb386 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. Anyone with an eye for this style (me), wants the goods that the image suggests. It doesn't have to be the fastest in its class either, just respectable. Furthermore, had it been an ALL electric, I would have considered it.

  • @ThePilotGear
    @ThePilotGear 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm very surprised anyone would have built something like this in this day and age. It looks good, but it could have been better. Looks way too much like Toyota's new design language.
    I am very happy Honda is building these as hybrid-only, but far more impressed they're building a manual trans for this. Good. f*cking. Job. Too bad I won't take advantage of it; gotta have a usable daily driver, and the wife needs to be able to drive it this time around.

    A 2.0L naturally asiprated engine + 1 electric motor most likely is not going to get 300 hp; 210 hp the most. FYI, Toyota's new 2025 Camry has 2.5L + electric motor with a total output of only 225.
