1. Wasn’t wearing helmet
2. Battery read 40% but was really closer to 20%
3. Dust obscured my vision, should have slowed down or followed their lines
4. Two perfectly placed small rocks caused a nosedive
5. Heavy backpack prevented runout and brought me down hard, size of backpack prevented rolling
I’m totally okay. My hands and shoulder took the brunt of it. It looks like I hit my head super hard but I just barely grazed my cheek. I’ll be wearing a helmet now.

I’m just gonna throw it out there.
Voltage is not a good range indicator in the bottom half of a battery due to voltage sag.
You have to read the voltage WHILE ripping around for a more accurate measure. When you stop, li-ion batteries recover a little and the voltage increases, giving you a false reading and hence the dead at “17%”. I bet the other CBXR was nearly dead too.
Also… not to be part of the helmet police but like… come on man…
Totally agree on both points! Chi chart seems several percent optimistic when stopped. I've had a couple surprises / walks with my Quart. And as someone who's cracked a helmet, I'm very grateful it was the helmet that cracked.

Great content, and Jake glad you're okay. It's sad to me that the XR has been discontinued and a lot of people are selling them. Based on The Float Life videos and others, it seems like the XR is still its own thing. The entire FM line is basically Pints now, with the GT being a beefed up Pint with some added nice-to-haves. The XR is a street trick machine, no tail drag, lower center of gravity, is faster than the GT, has better range with a CBXR, and in my unpopular opinion, looks better than the GT with installed accessories. If I had to make a choice it'd be the XR, just based on what I've seen so far.

Obviously time will tell and I've been a huge proponent that the aftermarket will catch up to the GT and produce great things like tires and accessories in the future. SO FAR, based on the size and performance, the GT looks like a fun desert shredder.
Props to Jake for shrugging off that nosedive! I wish FM would contract you boys out to help develop onewheels so they could deliver a board with full potential.

It's tough for manufacturers to work with aftermarket guys. The manufacturers take suggestions from consumers/buyers before aftermarket guys even though aftermarket guys are just as hands-on (and sometimes more hands-on) as consumers/buyers. It's probably got a lot to do with proprietary technologies in their products. Of course, Float Life isn't looking to steal technologies from Future Motion but I've found it to be a pretty standard thing with manufacturers.

FM doesn't seem to care what people outside their company think. Hopefully advancements in the DIY scene give people more board options that aren't at the whim of an single company's desire to lock down their product.

You should have ran the cbxr completely down. The other cbxr died when it had what was equivalent to 17% so maybe that cbxr would have died in like half a mile.
I don't trust my cbxr below 20 unless I want to walk it home. It hits 20%, I go straight home. I still get over 20 miles on 80%, which is fine.
FM advertising says 20-32 miles for the GT, would say that the 23 miles you squeezed out of it was great! The most range I've ever gotten out of an XR was 12, so I think the GT did a great job.

As someone who is stuck with a Pint that's looking to upgrade (I absolutely love my Pint and have put over 700 miles on it, as well as some extra money in accessories) I feel really stuck. I don't just want a baby step to the Pint X for another full 1500 bucks. I hate almost everything I've seen about the GT so far. And I really want an XR but they don't sell them anymore. And even if I could find a dealer with a new reserve stock, it would likely be the later firmware and I wouldn't be able to upgrade the battery in the Future. I really feel like FutureMotion have left me without any options. I can't buy any of their products (money not being an issue). So what do I do? Just throw an external battery pack on the Pint or something? Super bummed out.
I do LSD. Long Slow Distance. Cruze about 12-14 mph on paved greenway. With my JWXR I can get about 32 miles. I'll test out my GT next week when it arrives for a comparison. It's no where near as exciting as watching you guys ride but it is peaceful and helps clear my head.

My tange test i got 28.5 miles on my GT. Rode a total of 267 miles then had power on issues and had to send back the FM for repair.
New rider with my BigRed GT - Feb 2023 UK - Just got 16 miles out of mine with the treaded tire and running on trails in the UK February cold weather and rain.
15 PSI for nice float and I’m 16 stone 😬. Still impressed considering my heavy body and the PSI.
I’m hoping in the summer I’ll get more out of my GT. 🤞🏻

- yes, the harder the rubber, the more efficient.
BUT:
- the stiffer the compound (that's including the carcasse and the thickness of the rubber) the less efficient. (energy losses due to hysteresis increase)
- the heavier the tire, the more energy it needs to accelerate and deccelerate
The GT Tire has the same outer diameter and width as for example the XR tire (Vega). But it weights 25% more and it's super hard. Thus every little bit shows that it is not efficient in any way
@@ericqhochuli6004 it seems most need to ride the GT tyre way softer than usual to feel comfy. And that reduces range a lot

When you ride an XR at relatively high speeds on a dusty, rocky road behind other people, you gotta admit that the helmet brigade have a pretty damn good point. That's just asking for a concussion, or worse.
@@Ty-ye8rd that’s what I’m thinking. While I know that future motion tries to prevent that kind of stuff from software, this is the very first GT software version. One of the most sought after XR models is the early ones because of how modable it is. I feel like they will crack the GT and this is just the beginning

Mario Contino has a good video explaining battery charging. Basically if I understand him correctly the green light doesn't indicate 100%, it indicates that when the amp output goes below a certain point. So my pint is 0.3a. When the battery is nearing full the amp output goes down, I think it's to do with battery health. On the normal pint charger the amp output goes down around 98/99%, I don't have a hyper charger but it would make sense that it could be around 90% that the output goes down due to it being higher to start with.
Anyway, great video, was hoping for more miles with the added weight but oh well, probably only get their milage on 20psi road riding! Sounds an uncomfortable ride. Glad Jake's all good

You gotta love how futureproof the xr is lol the customization options are so rich, FM really created a beast! It’s open source compared to the “Sonyfication” of the GT with the unique tire and rim. imo its a pretty weak attempt to make some extra money… too bad this community is too much of a beast to be stopped tho. I have no doubt the aftermarket will find all of the workarounds needed to really make the gt shine. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. As for me I’m only 700 miles deep in my xr and there’s no way I’m giving up my custom xr with the fangs. I’ve taken that nosedive too many times lmao without modular customization to fit that design into the gt there’s no way I’d touch it. Call it “Onewheel ptsd” or whatever but that’s my 2 cents.

CBXR with OWIE (Owie shows true percentage IN OFFICIAL APP) beats the GT. I think having that nice mellow pushback of the XR with GT range (even more range than GT) makes it the winner.

I have a question, I also installed a CBXR with a FFM chip on my board but I am not getting the amount of miles I thought Id get. anyone know what the reason can be?

Do you live where its cold while doing this range test? I lose like 30% on my JWXR when its cold outside. Soon as it warms up iill be back in that 35+ mile range per charge. last week i got 20 and 25 miles on a charge, but its still in the 30s here.

I'm glad you guys are doing these comparisons, but I think even though you're trying to make things fair and even, you still not getting real results. The reasons I think this are, one, everyone knows that these types of batteries lose power faster as they deplete, so switching riders at the halfway point is not fair. Two, it would be better to establish a route that one person rides the GT on and gets the range. Then, that same person rides the XR with suspension (to help match the weight of the GT) on the same route. Finally, have different weighted riders do both these test and gather all the data to get real results/stats. You need to check voltage while under a load to actually get the true percentage of a CBXR battery. I ride the same exact trail with both my GT and my XR, my GT gets 23.2 to 24 miles of range with 6% battery left. My XR gets 18,1 miles with 7% left. If I use my VNR with a Powerworks 5ah battery on my fender, I get up to 29.6 miles range with 10% left (I don't like to go under 10% with an extended battery).

The cbxr page no longer mentions 30-40 mile range, it just says double the range of an xr.
Depends on how you ride. Some get very low. Some much more. People will moan that they don't get what chi say, so I guess they changed it to summat we can work out for ourselves. I get 10 to 15 miles on XR so I shoukd expect 20 to 30 miles on cbxr no? Seems a better way to do things without people questioning what they said before about the mileage. I cpikd get 18 miles on XR but I dint ride slow and chill to achieve it usually. So my range is 15 max not 18 as FM advertised for XR

I was bummed when ordering my GT that Future Motion couldn't supply a battery to beat or at least match what was already on the market (cbxr). With that being said it is exciting to wonder what Chi will be able to come up with with all that extra room in the GT. 50miles??
At present FM has made it so the moment you disconnect the battery on the GT it is bricked so until chi and other aftermarket batteries find a work around it’ll be stock for a while.

FM should hire TFL to tune a line of onewheel GTs. Just like Mercedes hired AMG to tune their more hardcore sports sedans.

Video is awesomely entertaining, as usual, and you guys are the coolest...but the actual full comparison I'd like to see is GT vs. stock-battery XR. A stock GT compared to a maxed out XR makes less sense, in my opinion.
Check out their previous GT videos for stock battery XR comparisons. The stock XR keeps up very well also. The CBXR comparison is valid because the cost is about the same as a GT and many have long ago upgraded their Onewheel battery to get more range and power so it's what we ride, not stock boards.
As an xr owner I was holding off to see this. Do I upgrade battery or sell and upgrade. Have upgraded foot pads, tire, badger bumpers, wanted bangs but at the time they see impossible to get,. Sidekicks, anyway, my mind is made up, time to add life savers, cbxr, and waterproof it, dreaming of varirails.. even if they tweak the gt, a moded xr seems like the way to go for the foreseeable future

Lights on XR use 400 metres of a full charge I think they calculated. So 3% sounds about right to me

Chi site says double XR range so you can calculate real world mileage of a chi battery, for how you ride. Stop everyone bitching they don't get 30 to 40 when they 250lbs riding on difficult terrain
I'm 170 lbs and get to 40 miles street with a cbxr. I've seen guys get even more with whisper tires. On rough terrain trails I've gotten 20 miles. FM should be doing things better than aftermarket batteries, not worse. That being said, GT stock for a heavy set person is gonna be good for them on hills. Ive always used a lift kit and I've never had any issues getting up steep hills with it.
One thing to consider is the GT has a LOT it needs to do with its battery life. It's only got so much battery and computing capacity to fit into a limited space. The designers should've considered that before making thicker waffle bumpers.
