    Update on my ankle: yeah definitely sprained but not too bad! It’s been 4 weeks and I’m finally feeling back to normal!

      Lol. My ankle on my lead foot (I ride goofy) is so often trashed from eating it on all manner of boards (OW included), that I think it'll forever be in a state of perpetual healing. I guess I should expect that doing what we do at my age (42).

  • @nicoaleman
    @nicoaleman ปีที่แล้ว +79

    So stoked yall are messing around with it now haha, there's definitely a learning curve and nuance to using it in different situations (definitely gotta let off the nose tilt before reaching coping so you don't transition into a tail drag 👌) but it's gonna open so many doors to a whole new style of riding going forward. Gonna be a wild year!
    Oh and btw, that asymmetric tilt was cuz you bumped the remote's mode button. Most remotes have this built in, where it limits forward throttle (nose down), but not braking / backwards throttle (nose up). So you can take advantage of this to adjust the nose down intensity on the fly as well, which I find super useful since it definitely makes sense to have a more mellow nose down in a lot of situations 🤙

    • @travisharvey4439
      @travisharvey4439 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's rad that asymmetrical tilt was just a happy accident of an already established function.

      @nicoaleman ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yup, it opens up an entirely new way to ride once you have the technique dialed, and it's not like it's mandatory to be used at all times like an eskate. We've even got one guy that's got his on a retractable lanyard line connected to his backpack, so he can grab it when needed and just let go to let it zip back to his backpack when not haha.

      Agreed. FM and the Onewheel will remain the entry board for the sport but anyone who takes it seriously or has the technical know-how will switch to VESC due to all the advantages. It'll be a weird scenario where most people will have FM boards and they'll still sell way more yet all the pros and people of significance in the community will be rocking VESCs

    Future enhanced mod to consider: bumper-mounted front and rear topographic sensors that that sense upcoming terrain slope and automatically adjust tilt angle parameters to the exact settings needed to send the VESV the necessary amperage to power up, possibly by modding ATR behaviour in real time, no remote needed.
    You’re still probably want some way of letting it know what “mode” you want, to give you the option to do a tail or nose drag if you want to instead of powering up the slope, but that would require much less fine control on the remote. Or maybe no remote at all.

    Wonder if remapping your brain to think about it as a "brake" and "gas" instead of tilt would yield better acquisition. "Gas" becoming raising the nose, and "Brake" being lowering the nose. Relabelling them might simplify the brain to be ready for the speed changes.

    • @nicoaleman
      @nicoaleman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's definitely how you have to think about it! Especially if you want to use it as a sort of booster to strengthen your acceleration or braking. But for example, if you just tilt the nose up and you dont lean forward to compensate, it kinda forces you to start braking due to the pushback-like position. After some practice, this becomes fairly intuitive, just takes time like anything else!

    Needs a double trigger remote.. like a rocker switch, pull one side of the switch for nose up, and the other for nose down…. If the trigger is connected to an analog potentiometer then the response can be as gradual as the trigger pull.

      It is connected to a potentiometer! The feature just utilizes eskate remotes such as the Hoyt Puck (seen in this video), the BKB Voyager, the Flipsky VX1, etc., which have throttles with potentiometers or other methods of reading the input.

      Haha yeah I was about to say! That’s pretty much exactly how this remote works

      Hmm looks just like a puck with buttons…. Need closeups…. You need a grip like a trigger and that rocker switch for your first two fingers….. nico if you want a collaborator…. I did the engineering for Jeff on the varials… hit me up, always happy to help on the mechanical side for stuff like that.

      @@ucdwino Look at the first frame of the video and notice the thumb wheel at the top! It's not ergonomic at all IMO but there's a big DIY case design community making 3D printable versions but I haven't tried them yet. I'm gonna see if I can switch to a different remote I have that's shaped exactly like a boosted board remote

      @@SirWrender if this is going to be a real “product” I’d love to help. I helped Jeff with the varials…. prototyping / product dev is my thing…. This is crazy enough to be interesting!
