Who buys them for any child whatsoever? It's all bad. It would be safer if America followed us in the UK and stopped the madness, at least make it illegal for kids under 21 to have guns or even use them at all, no more practice nothing, it's the only way this is solved
Oh they bought it for him for Christmas isn't that nice? Also she bragged on Instagram when she took him t the firing range to try it out. I believe she said “Mom & son day testing out his new Xmas present. My first time shooting a 9mm I hit the bullseye.” I hope they go away for a long time for this!!!
She knew she should have checked his bag and since she refused at least she should be held accountable since she had the automatic response to hearing about there being a shooter to send him the message "Ethan, Don't do it" she was copable in this case. This isn't about ALL school shooting cases it's ALL the things that could have been done ONLY by his parents to prevent this ONE case!!!
I really enjoyed hearing Matt Murphy's take on the school shooting case. I am a gun owner and I agree with him 100%. I don't know how any responsible minded person couldn't. I don't believe a parent should be prosecuted in every situation but in this case I believe it's warranted. I don't believe any kid should be provided a handgun first and foremost. And definitely not if they show any signs of mental illness. We live in a society where people can held responsible for encouraging someone that is mentally ill to harm themselves. How can we not hold a parent responsible for equipping their mentally ill child with a firearm that results in the death of others? I would feel differently if they had no idea at all that their son was mentally ill, but they had indication. The school should not be held responsible because they may have seen signs of mental illness but they had no idea that he was given access to firearms. The sole responsibilities fall on the child and his parents in this case.
Absolutely very well said my sentiments exactly my comment said basically the same thing in every situation it’s different, and it should be taken on a case by case basis, but in this case, yes, the responsibility lies on the child and his parents in this particular situation because they knew and they gave him they bought him a gun anyway They had indication without the teachers even warning them apparently and then when they saw that picture and their child begging for help, how can you not prosecute the parents after that they knew I think at the very least it should be voluntary manslaughter because they provided the fire onbut then again, I’m not a prosecutor, so but yes, very well said
Tupac was a man beyond his time. His music changed my mind as a teen. I think about the loss of his music and talent often. The world lost a lot that day.
There should be no debate about the 2nd. I love the idea of prosecuting parents for the crap they raised. Put the blame right where it belongs. People are more negligent raising their kids, than waving guns around.
Parents should be brought to trial… but what about the school administration not checking his backpack on the day of the murders after finding his disturbing drawing
I hear you on that, but they are sitting right across from the parents at that moment and it was the parents chance to speak up and say he has access to guns and they kept their mouths shut. Yes looking back I am sure the school wishes they would have checked but they didn't know he had access and the parents did. I think it's absolutely awful and negligent that the parents not only supplied him with a gun but after seeing that drawing didn't tell the school. Even if they didn't believe it was with him at that time they could have said he has access at home so the school would be aware for the future.
Thank you Joshua and Matt for another informative podcast episode! 💗 I really didn’t think that Tupac would ever receive justice. I really hope that everyone that is still alive that played a role in his murder is punished to fullest extent of the law. #justice4Tupac
Guns are now the #1 cause of death for kids. It was car accidents. 25,000 kids have died in less then a decade. We need to build a pyramid of shoes for each child killed by accident/purposely by guns. If you fail to properly store your weapons (same for gun sellers, and make a single bullet 20 dollars without proof of need (I.e., hunters, farmers))and they are taken by family or stolen; at the very least you should be held as enabling/aiding abetting the crime. Me and my sibs grew up with guns. However they were locked up in a cabinet, in my folks locked room. We did get robbed but they only got fancy pellet guns and some piddly crap. (It was kids). Im so lucky, my kid (early sufferer of bipolar) never got her hands on weapon during her “episodes”. But again, smart enough NOT to have weapons around her, and that included knives.
The parents' trial is set for January 23, 2024. The parents not only bought their disturbed son the gun he used to commit the crime, but he also had access to a "weaker" gun that would not produce the same results in the desired fatalities. He had a journal in which he laid out his mass shooting plans over 29 pages. The day before the shooting, Ethan's mother texted him to inform him that she got a voicemail from the school stating he was looking up ammunition. She texted him, "You have to learn not to get caught." The parents sold their house and used the proceeds to pay for their attorneys and they let a public defender take on Ethan's case. I am a Michigander who lives in the Oxford area.
The sword weilding guy who was stopped in the supermarket by an AR15 isn't an argument FOR Ar15s. You could have stopped him with a small handgun. There is no valid argument for civilians to have automatics. None.
Parents that allow access to guns to children who use those guns to murder children should be charged with murder. *Period* RIP Tupac, Nipsey, Takeoff, Lil Loaded, Snootie Wild, BFG Straap, Ms. Me, MO3, and Lotta Cash Desto To name a few. Yes, it's still happening.
Parents being held accountable is a double edged sword. I believe it should be a requirement to have a gun safe especially with a child who has a mental health condition.
The Parents knew about all their son's problems they are not stupid people and they still bought him a gun. I think they just wanted freedom from him because if It's true they were having affairs and maybe wanted him to get into trouble. That information is out there, I do not know if It is true. I get the impression they didn't care enough about him.
Thank you for a positive comment about South Africa's legal system. However, we do have a huge problem with the proliferation of illegal guns, in some cases due to police corruption. Love watching your show. Greetings from Cape Town.
None of us understand it from other countries and never will. One would think after all these kids have been massacred over and over, time and time again, they would just ban the guns and stop being scared to do it. It is a few extremists that the government in the USA is afraid of that's why they won't ban guns.
But you don't hear all the stories about the people that own guns and keep them locked in a safe and cause no problems. You only hear about the problems the minority. It's my right, and I'll own a gun.
@@MsBleauI think its enough 😮 not 1 civilian Person needs a gun , please for what ??? Wtf is wrong with you gun owners ? See how many murders, this country is just ill & had not learned the lesson over 50 years 😳 sad for all the victims. I would never go in us not even for 1 day 😬
I live in australia. What i cannot understand is why the f, can the government, supreme court or whatever the process is, not just add another amendment to alter the 2nd a amendment. After all, the 2nd amendment is an amendment.
They could change it tomorrow but the government is afraid of the population as they are armed to the teeth, what Americans need to understand is tyranny can also come from nutters outside of government too and with weapons now they are all armed, the government might not ever attack the population, but neo nazi gangs might and they have been handed weapons freely
The problem is the republicans and democrats in congress can’t come to a bipartisan agreement on a bill to ratify the second amendment. The bill would have to receive and 2/3 majority vote in the house as well as the senate and then the president signs off on it. Or a landmark case would have to make it to the Supreme Court and they could make a landmark ruling which would change second amendment rights here in the States. Aside from the federal level, states can also changes laws surrounding guns for that state.
It's not that easy unfortunately. First most cute this amendment yet don't truly understand it. It basically was written to allow citizens to bare arms during a war. The revolutionary war had just ended. In order to change an amendment both houses of Congress would need to pass the bill to amend it and since the national rifle assn. Donates big time to most of these elected senators and reps during campaigns these people aren't willing to do that.
I’m new to both of these gentlemen & I was in total agreement with EVERYTHING Matt said. I absolutely agree that the parents of the kid of the school shooting should be held responsible, but so should everyone who knew of his mental health & didn’t check the backpack.. Also the quote about the case not being unsolved just unprosecuted definitely applies to Tupac.
I agree but you can’t just blanket mental illness regarding owning a firearm. It just doesn’t make sense at least to me. Definitely each case needs to be individualized
23:49 how is everyone trying to stop this “epidemic” when the “thoughts and prayers” people are fighting against gun control?? These parents aided and abetted this kid. They had so many chances to intervene but were too wrapped up in their own bs to pay any real attention to their kid.
Being responsible for your children is a good thing. The parents are a part of the problem for not actively parenting, poor judgement on their part. Perhaps parents need to get special insurance to cover this risk. Parents are ultimately responsible for the health and well being of their children. Peoples lives were changed forever and ended because of this negligence. Remember the bikers in FL who followed a pregnant lady home after some road rage? Killed her on her own lawn with her child. Many people pass weapons to friends who pass them to friends who owe people money. If we buy a weapon we are responsible for it, end stop. May need to even go by the Sheriff Department yearly to check it.
I LOVE THIS KIND OF NEWS NO LIMITS IN GETTING AWAY WITH BREAKING THE LAW NO LIMITATIONS STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT PREJUDICE MEAN IN THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT OF LAW ANOTHER CASE BEEN CLOSED AN NOTHING HAPPENED I'VE BEEN NEGLECTED BY LAW AN NEED ANSWERS DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY TO TURN DON'T SLEEP AT NIGHT AS A RESULT
As you said South Africa does have its issues and there are a lot but their gun rules are really good. They also insist on competency tests before you own a gun and this has to be done every couple of years to ensure that no mental issues develop over time. These rules should be considered across the world, its still gives people the right to carry but allows safe people to carry guns
This guy is wrong on his views. What if a parent has their guns in a safe and the kids breaks into it? The parents are responsible even though they did their job securing the weapon?
The school shooting if you are a minor your parents are responsible for you. The school is also responsible for you. The first failure though was the parents.
This may be a reach, but I’m wondering if his mother was hoping that he would off himself. EC told his parents he was hearing voices. He would text his parents when they would leave him at home while they were out of town without him. He was left unsupervised a lot. They bought him a gun.
Agreed...Oscar Pistorius shot his girlfriend multiple times & killed the beautiful, inside & out, Reeva Steenkamp. He made sure she wasn't coming out of that bathroom alive !!
You are rational enough to judge these cases on its merits ,,the problem with certain prosecutors is their desire to blanket cover and bring the landmark case that they can stretch,,,no offense taken because you think like the growing minority with intelligence!!!!!!!
On the mentally ill idk about just saying they shouldn't have guns because of mental illness itself there's different kinds, that being said I do think how ever if a person is delusional as hearing audio hallucination stuff like that yeah I can agree they shouldn't have firearms especially a 15 year old nope no way as a parent would I do that.
So what if they decided to classify people that refused the jab to be mentally unstable? Do they then lose their gun rights? This seems awfully convenient if so. Obviously schizophrenia like conditions should be taken as standard but……
I’m a mom what mother our father buys a gun for a. 15 year old possibly mentally ill child I agree with you guys it’s so wrong in so many ways
