If you are willing to talk about Juicy Smollet you should talk about Hunter Bidens sweetheart deal too.

different legal issue though. the juicy situation decision will affect others cases because it will define case law, whereas ppl kept saying the Biden issue was not changing case law but that he was given preferential treatment. i can't see how juicy situation could ootentially affect situations where an alleged criminal works with the police or prosecutor to get their cases reduced, and then that deal is tried to be changed before it's all official

Okay, but what if they only allow cameras once the trial starts? By then the jury has already been selected and cameras will not affect them.

They're not going to be able find an impartial jury anywhere in the world, let alone in this country.

In Georgia it doesn’t matter. If you come over with someone u just met and they say, “hey I’m about to lic/steal from my cousins house real quick. I’m going to have him let me in and I’m just going to grab some games”. As he’s waiting outside, Cousin kid goes in and loses his stuff and murders his cousin. Leaves like nothing happened. The guy who decided to walk over there, whom he just met, and never stepped foot on the property, will also be charged with murder. Even if they don’t know as to what happened until days later. Doesn’t matter. They all get charged. It is what it is. This stands today.

I'm British and double jeopardy came to the US via British law but we got rid of it in 2003. I believe it only applied to murder in the UK anyway. But there was a case where someone admitted to the murder but had been found not guilty years earlier. Also, DNA evidence proved people guilty who had been found not guilty at trial and there were even a couple of cases of old gangsters writing books admitting they were actually guilty.
Anyway, not there has to be substantial new evidence, that is presented before a judge and if they agree this evidence proves guilt they can take you back to court for murder years later.
It's pretty interesting as it was one mother and one loudmouthed killer who changed centuries of law. It was that one case that convinced them to change the law.

The lax laws in California is why I'll probably never visit again. The fact that he can get off with burglary as opposed to murder is heartbreaking for her family. I think California will see a drastic rise in vigilantism since they cant get justice in court.

Smollett didn't plead guilty in this case, and he wasn't convicted. So it will be interesting. Tort claim is interesting, but that wouldn't impact double jeopardy of the criminal case. Basically, he donated $10k and community service. Interesting if justice is supposed to be blind and equal treatment of the law, then why should there be a difference between high profile and not?

Isn’t it intent bc the defendant brought a gun to the crime.

i watched the entire Heard Depp because I became fascinated with legal proceedings, not really that interested in the players. But I saw so much YT and MSM really stirred up more not less misinformation. Those is a murder trial, not a civil case, so I think cameras aren't a good idea. Oral recordings I think would be a good compromise. Also the potential jurors may try to get a pass because their lives will be hell from the invasive media.
