    As a question (and possible challenge?...) I'd like to ask you if it's possible to make a "floating" island, Avatar style. Maybe use the waterfalls as support for the structure, i don't know, just wanted to put the idea out there.

    After almost 8 years lurking in this hobby, I just recently got my first minis. I basically covered my fingers covered in plastic glue, my paint job looks awful, and I have no one to play against. But none of the matters to me. What Chris said. Good on ya man for learning at your own pace and enjoying the process. One of my favorite quotes: "The only person we should try to be better than is the one we were the day before." In general, this is the best way to approach life. OK sure competitive sports is another thing, but for our day to day the above rule is the way to live and get the most satisfaction out of the things we apply ourselves to. Be proud of how far you've come from when you fist started. :)

      @@CrusaderSports250 You cannot beat the hobby, I started with Airfix in the UK at about 5 years old. Bought all the yearly catalogues and just wish I could have afforded all the kits at that time when visiting the local model shop every week. Branched out into collecting diecast aircraft, tanks etc and metal figures in virtually every scale I now have the finances but not the time unfortunately, although I don't think my credit card company is complaining. Just need a bigger house and some decent display cases etc!

    Awesome idea to tip the resin while it's still drying. It successfully simulated the flow of water better and quicker than you could do by hand and it looked great!

    Back in the early 1990's a fellow in our group had a 9x5 foot table like that, sans cliffside, we would wargame Renaissance, English Civil War, Thirty Years War, and Ancients on 3 - 4 times a week. Nothing like seeing hundreds of beautifully painted miniatures on nice terrain!

    I have a (suppressed) creative side just waiting for my lazy, procrastinating side to take a break and burst out from my seams. I have been searching TH-cam for the past few days for the right inspiration to trigger my creativity and making things with paper mache clay was almost doing it for me, but just wasn't quite doing it. Then I seen the giant miniature of a nature landscape. While I could never commit to a project that large, you've still inspired me to try to make nature- based miniature landscapes. I love your detail and this video has given me some great ideas. Yer awesome!

    Neil, This beautiful project of yours reminds me of when I commented way back that I had issues with dust collecting on display pieces. I might have found a solution for that (or in my case at least, you'd probably have to modify it because of the sheer size);
    "Display coffee table".
    Apparently there are some for wine or DIY tables. But It shouldn't be too hard to steal part of that design and modify a nice/cheap Ikea coffee table which has a glass top. I just wanted to share my epifani which people of course already thought of, take away from it what you will. ^^
    Disclaimer: Of course there are alternatives, such as display cases or shelves but I've never been a huge fan of them. it can so easily look cluttered or out of place.

    Jeremy used a polyurethane resin which is highly reactive to water and many other thing. Epoxy can definitely react negatively too but if you mix it right, don't add too much water based pigments like acrylic, you should always be golden!

    • @CrusaderSports250
      @CrusaderSports250 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always use gloves when working with anything epoxy as you can become sensitised to it relatively easily, the problem then comes you are also done for polyester resins including ordinary car body filler, fortunately it doesn't work the other way and sensitisation to polyester is not common, even in the industry, unfortunately polyester resins don't tend to be as clear as epoxy ones so dont make such good water, so be careful.

    a shop that I used to play at back in the 90's had something similar to this. There's was a little more flat though, but slightly bigger too. I think there's was 3 foot by 12 foot. They used to split it into 3 sections for tournaments and events. It is a lot of fun to play games on a table like that. It adds so much more to the games.
    it was part of the reason that I started playing Rogue Trader/Warhammer 40k way back when it first came out.

    You may have found a way to add rapids by now, but just in case you haven't, you can add a white dye to a separate coat of resin/epoxy, and then use a blow dryer while it is still wet, in order to create a wave-like/foam effect. I suggest watching some videos on epoxy river tables for some ideas on that. There are many that create an ocean effect. Also, they may have a better resin/epoxy for you to use.

    This is amazing! Your video has inspired me to try my hand at this, I bought myself a foam cutter like you use on amazon, and I am collecting scrap styrofoam at work. Gonna try to make something using as much recycled material as I can to cut cost, and be eco-friendly!

    I remember taking my k'nex and Gi joes outside just to play in the grass for a sense of land scaping and jungle vibe as a kid. Something like this would have been amazing, and I can only imagine what his kids got/get to play with when it comes scrapped projects.

    Dream of having the space for something as fantastic as this. Own all the figures, vehicles and diorama accessories required in virtually every scale but just need a larger house at present. Unfortunately I don't think my bank manager see's it that way! First time I have seen your video's. New subscriber best wishes from the UK.

    You nailed it neil. Definitely going to be doing a smaller version with these techniques for a LoTR board. You'll see it in the discord 👀

    As a tip, don't mix paint with resin unless you've tested it. It's far more unpredictable chemically and you're more likely to end up with a bad result. You can buy actual dye made for use with resin which will always work correctly, the only downside being that it can be a bit expensive. Better to get the dye than waste a bunch of even more expensive resin. Sometimes food colouring is even a better option than paint.
    This looks really good though!

      I think inks work fine too, and some companies make specific tints too.

    for buildings on hilly boards, is it not possible to base a building on gell/bean bag so that when you put it down it is stable no matter where it is put?

    Why couldn’t you use a blow dryer (that has a cool setting) for making wave/ripply fix in the epoxy, for your creek/river?

    Truley amazing! I build for 6mm World War Two. My problem with the resin water is that after a while, bubbles come up and ruin the river effect. How do you avoid this problem? Thanks!
