  • In this video I show you how to tune a Yanmar diesel clone and get it running cherry.
Specifically, we clean up the white haze and increase the max RPM. These techniques apply to any Yanmar or clone diesel you may have.
This particular engine is a 186F from a diesel generator now adapted to a Gravely walk behind tractor.

Dude Ive been watching your videos like a crack fiend.
I just got a 186f I'm planning on putting on a motorcycle to shoot back and forth to work.
I'll be doing the build on my channel.

      Glad you’re enjoying.
I’m planning to turbocharge this thing, so stay tuned. A turbo/intercooled 186F on a bike would be hammer.

How much boost can they handle?

@@TACOMASRT5 I have no idea. That’s why I want to find out. All the information I have seen has been anecdotal. My goal is 5 psi to start.

I just put a 186FA on a log splitter. I want to try to limit the diesel exhaust factor and this seems promising.

Yes, it definitely helps clear out some of the fumes. Running at a higher RPM also cleans it up even more.

Do you have a link to the tachometer you use?

      Saw you had it linked.

My plan is to install a torque converter

That would probably work well. It has a standard mounting bolt pattern.

I added the sensors I used to the description. Most of the stuff I used to adapt the tach was custom though.

I’d prefer not if it’s all the same to you.

I understand man. I'm just working on building this 186f motorcycle and this is my first diesel, this is my first motorcycle build and my first hybrid build. So this is all new to me.

@@TACOMASRT5 That’s pretty ambitious, but I’ll answer whatever questions. I would recommend looking for resources with the go kart folks. A diesel and torque converter setup is probably more common in those projects.
