That trail is called Big Emma, and it used to be rated green/beginner. Snowbird is a challenging mountain.

Big Emma!! I was a Lifty there for a couple seasons. I preferred Chips Run myself but also loved Bassackwards into Big Emma. Did you get over on the backside of the resort any? See the TUNNEL?? If you stayed in Gad Valley you only got 1/3 of the experience buddy.

Big Emma is "split" into two. It's technically all one run, but the upper part is classified as blue and the lower part is classified as green. Unless you're saying that Upper Big Emma also used to be green?

I can relate! Rode at Snowbird 2 years ago for the first time. Between the challenging terrain & altitude ( got a pretty bad case of AMS-HAPE), I got my ass kicked. Returned in early Mar 2024. Ditto. I will return, though! I may not kick Snowbird’s ass, but I’ll at least make some peace with this awesome mountain. At 71 YO, I have a few more years to do so.

The difficulty rate is relative to each ski area. Snowbird is world class in terrain and snow. Depending on snow conditions the traverse out to the Cirque can be very challenging with lots of rocks and hard packed. Snowbird can require some ski mountaineering skills in certain places.

The cat track portion is easily a green imo, but if you jump off too early from the track, it's pretty mogully most of the time and can be very rough for someone who isn't experienced. That said, the cat track is not that wide so I understand why you would label it as blue, so beginners don't fall and congest it.

There is no national scale for what is / is not a black, blue, green, double black, JEDI master black, naked double black ... Some places label spaces based on how they want to appeal to their client base. They _may_ squeak the rating to get a green or a blue when it works better for how a resort is framed.
Seems like you approached this right. Looked, found what you could ride and went in with confidence.
Labels are just that; same with maps. Parties get "lost" standing by signs.
One tip, don't grab the bamboo poles A: Splinters B: they mark obstacles "typically" C: Splinters and glove killers. Avoid them more than anything.
