This is the video I was WANTING for ever!! I changed my oil and filter on my 2000 ford expedition 2 weeks ago and I checked today and it was LOW on oil. I screamed!! I add a quart and I see those kinds of marks on the engine too. I need to replace my valve cover gaskets!! Thank you SO MUCH!! You have saved my DAY!!!

@5:10, "and tighten all your bolts". This would be a good spot to add a disclaimer that these MUST be tightened to spec using a torque wrench according to manufacturer's guidelines.

Cross pattern when tightening is also recommended so that the gasket is pressed evenly.

Some gaskets have an up-side and a down-side. Look at the gasket that you are removing to be sure which way it goes.

noticed the oil because it killed my alternator. Didn't realize the rough running engine on idle might be related to the leak too. Guess this rose to my #1 "to do" item for my vehicle.

I have a bad oil leak in my 06 jeep grand cherokee 3.7 on passenger side. It had overheated 4 weeks ago and been sitting. I replace the radiator and thermostat and starter because it was having problems starting and noticed oil leaking when I tried to start it. There is a knocking sound and had someone read it and got the code p0300 but then I noticed a large crack in my valve cover. Do you think the car is worth replacing

Seat the socket all the way down on the bolt and even tap with a hammer. For Phillips make sure you are using the right size head and seat it as far as you can by tapping with a hammer. Try using an impact gun as well. Penetrating oil the day before the project and 10 minutes before.

My 99 Cavalier engine code 4, 2.2 inline four-cylinder symptoms are P0300 (random misfire), spark plugs are carboned up, oil in spark plug holes, valve cover leaking oil, after long idle engine dies when stepping on gas. Upon restart lots of smoke comes out of exhaust. Reving engine clears up rough idle for a while then engine starts idling crappy and dies. Could it be a bad fuel pressure regulator or a just a bad valve cover gasket? Or a bad throttle body? Or a bad PCV valve. Car has 172,000 miles. My fear the most is a bad head gasket or cracked aluminum head. No visible loss of coolant observed. I will start out with the PCV valve and then replace the valve cover gasket. I will be checking for a blown diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator. All this work might be for naught if the cylinder head is cracked. Ahhhhh I need the girl from Ipanema to help me fix my Cavalier. Long and slender she can reach in and get to the hard to get places.

Go to youtube channel fordtechmakuloco, he explains why this happens on fords. I can't remember exactly why he said this happens, but it wasn't nothing to worry about on the fords. The video was called something like oil pudding. Also he is the best mechanic i have ever seen, he is a master at this stuff. He is very good to learn from, his explainations make doing car jobs almost dummy proof. If you check him out tell me what you think, you won't be letdown i guarantee that! I started working on my car because he made things seem so easy, and breaks down every possible scenario so when problems arise they can be quickly dealt with.

The gasket goes 360 degrees around the valve cover. If it is a vertically opposed gasket on the back of your engine, then it will be the intake manifold gasket, however, this should not leak oil.(to my knowledge)
