I watched this about 5 years ago....I remember being very impressed by the way he dealt with his illness...now I am ill myself, not with dementia but what I have is incurable and I am very tired...I try to deal with this the way he did and hope to remain dignified to the end...rest in perfect peace Charlton, you were truly amazing and thank you for showing me the way....

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Heston and received an autographed copy of Ben Hur a year or two before his Alzheimer's diagnosis. He recited a long passage from one of his stage parts and those of us in the room sat in awe. listening. He was a true gentleman, and I recall being shocked to see this larger than life figure stooped over a cane from arthritis as he shuffled out of the room after the interview. I stopped watching the Oscar telecast the year after he passed. I was watching the "In Memorium" portion and was disgusted that most of the audience sat on their hands, rather than applaud him when Mr. Heston's photo was displayed. Before joining the NRA, Heston was a fearless champion for equality in the early 60's and fought for civil rights. He was a good and decent man.

@@RobespierreThePoof The problem is not whether good manners is a bad thing, it's who gets to decide what are good or what are bad manners. Those who appoint themselves to the position of PC police often become tyrannical or even fanatical in their pursuit to eliminate anything they perceive as inappropriate or stereotypical. Every conversation, every article written is examined for what they may perceive as a slight. It never ends. It makes communicating laborious and unpleasant. People live in constant fear that what they say and do can be used to shame them into submission. The fear of losing their jobs, career, family and friends is a powerful weapon. No my friend it's not just gibberish, it's tyranny with manners. And it's tearing America and even the World apart.

@@abdiver12, well, you're obviously young and don't know Goldwater like you think you do. In fact, Goldwater voted for civil rights in 1957 and 1960, but is only remembered for opposing civil rights in 1964, largely because he rightly believed (and was later proven to be right), that the Civil Rights Act would not create equal rights for all men, but Title VI would be used to grant preferential treatment. Look into Goldwater (who was half Jewish, so knew about discrimination), and I think you'll learn more about what he really stood for, rather than relying on myths, and talking points from people too busy to read, do their homework and think independently.

As an aspiring actor in Hollywood in the early 1990’s, I was waiting at a valet after performing (singing) at Club Tatou in Beverly Hills where Mr. Charleton Heston was also waiting with an elegant older woman whom I assume was his wife Lydia. I immediately approached him and told him that my favorite film was The Ten Commandments and that he was also my favorite actor (which he was and still is). Slightly bent over in his aged posture he shook my hand with both of his hands and thanked me. As the lady and Mr. Heston drove away in a black Lincoln Town car, I literally balled my eyes out as my own car arrived crying uncontrollably as I drove home. I have tears running down my face and a lump in my throat nearly 30 years later writing this comment because that was and still is the most memorable and poignant few minutes of my nearly 60 years of living. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Charleton Heston! Earl M. Washington, American printmaker born April 9, 1962.

What a beautiful couple and what true partners they are in life. As individuals and as a couple are the epitome of true class.

I think this is a valuable, respectful documentary. With questions that matter. It's nice to see how important a marriage can be. Charles Heston speaks very fondly of his wife, my respect.
'What can be cured, must be endured' says Heston at the end of this documentary.
