    Really like hearing the big changes to be made on smaller properties

    Yup, we have lots of that in northern Michigan. You let a small eight point go , he crosses the fence and two minutes later, BANG!!! Happens constantly here. Bucks almost never get past 2 1/2 yrs. old. 🤬😢

      Unfortunately, that's true in other areas also! Education and example are the best tools to help educate hunters!

    I like this recommendation. Just curious if you have ever considered nutrient cycling/nutrient removal. In my own observations I have noticed that ruminants can sense where the most nutrient dense (nutritious) foods are located

    In my state if you have the best 50 acres, your property line will be surrounded by others taking advantage of your efforts. Hopefully you have move time to hunt than they do.

    Daniel recommended using the hack and squirt and double girdling methods in tandem in this video. Can you elaborate as to why you’d use both together?
    Daniel’s beard is rather impressive these days!

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GWP - Hack and squirt works best from about late July till the first leaves start changing colors. Double girdle works the rest of the year - so timber stand improvement isn't limited to a specific season.

    How do I go about getting Grant to assess and analyze my property? Goodness knows I've watched enough of his habitat improvement videos that I should know, but it's more poignant to have the Man Himself tell me what to do.

    Wouldn't it be worth using a timber company to get the trees and use it for mulch? Some of these companies are big and you could ask them to do land movement. I don't know. Just me thinking.

    I’m not seeing advertisement of Eagle Seed on your introductions anymore. Did they decide to part ways? Just curious if this is something I should concerned about in the future planting soy.

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brandon - The folks at Eagle seed are great with GMO soybeans. However, at $110 per bag and knowing browse pressure often kills soybeans early in my small food plots, I needed a better option. For years I've been experimenting with blends and have had very good success and the seed cost is much less. I've created some blends and you can see exactly what's in them, the cost, etc., at greencoverfoodplots.com. Let me know what you think!

    • @GrowingDeerTV

      There would be a trade off in value that would make opening the canopy still worthwhile.
      More light, less resource competition means larger trees several years faster than a crowded canopy at the trade off of additional limbs.

    What did you do for thermal cover?

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carl - Thermal cover isn't a big deal there. Wind cover is the issue and native grasses that block the wind but allow the sun's energy to reach the deer is key!

  • @UnapologeticAmerican1776
    @UnapologeticAmerican1776 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wouldn't multiple food ploys actually work against a hunter? If you have 1 maybe 2 food plots on a small parcel, then a hunter can cover it better. If you have 5, 6 even 7 small food plots, then you would be wondering which food plot the deer may be at. Verses only 1 or 2. That would better your odds. Correct?

    • @todsimpkins8908
      @todsimpkins8908 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      nope. 1 or 2 will be overused and hard to keep viable.
