@@arcanethink If someone just getting into mechanical keyboards I would recommend a hotswap board so they could change their mind on switches with a low risk
Agreed, as I have the K480, and the universal tablet folio for my Android tablet/phone, along with a few others, and some of their wireless mice, and, the battery life has been great, plus I'd rather just buy my own rechargable batteries(CR2032coin cells in the case of the folio) instead of having a sealed battery pack that could go bad in a few years, and risk not being able to replace it. Also another benefit of them going with standard batteries is that in the long run it reduces e-waste as people don't end up throwing the whole product out due to a battery they can't replace. More companies could be taking lessions from them on all kinds of products by using more common easy to replace battery standards.
I have one of those really flat remotes that you sometimes get with certain electronics and as such it has a button cell battery in there which I've never replaced before. Just to explain how old this thing is it has a 30-pin iPod connector.
@@bland9876 that's because lithium coin cell batteries batteries for the CR2016 and CR2032 varieties tend to have a 5 to 10 year life span if used lightly in a climate controlled sitting, or in something like a PC motherboard to keep bios settings, and the RTC going.
Glad they're phasing out the old Linus with the new model. The shave functionality was bugged so it would gradually build over time. Now it seems to have been sorted a bit
Man, I'd like Nicolas to go and review the Dygma Raise keyboard. His input is very informative and I'd like to see what his analysis is for my daily driver. Been using it for 2 years and I love the split. I don't have problems with it but I'd like to hear what problems Nicolas may find.
@@kincaide2882 I actually revisited the video after watching this, and thought the coverage of the keyboards were too different. James was more focused on aesthetics and theoretical ways to use, but Nicholas is more on the practical use of typing on the keyboard and how it actually feels.
Sounds like a recipe for a steampunk aesthetic keyboard TBH. Probably exists already, or at least something that matches that look. Real brass would definitely up the price.
I really wanted to like this, I love matching my setups to a theme and they looked super cute. But, when they let me open one instore and I had a tippy tap on them keys I was pretty disappointed. A lot of the keys were very wobbly and some were noticeably softer and harder than others which spoiled it. I still love how it looks but it seems like maybe there's a bit of a qc issue cause people do seem to enjoy it from what I see.
"The Plastic [...] there is no deep deep thocc you'd get from a metal case". Just one example of Nicolas throwing around buzzwords and actually saying the opposite of what is true. It's established that plastic cases provide deeper sounds than metal cases. I definitely would NOT trust this reviewer. Not that LTT is specialised on keyboards, I'd at least trust that someone like Anthony would not state things as fact that he doesn't know shit about.
@@lennihein this is ShortCircuit, it's not a review channel, it's an unboxing and opinion channel, so it's all about how they feel and not technical accuracy.
@@AustralianMurderTurtle It's fine to stick with opinions. But that's exactly what Nicolas DID NOT do. He started throwing in things stated as objective fact, when they were objectively false.
This keyboard is one of the cheapest feeling things I've ever touched (took one out of the box to show a customer at work). I have an MK235 from Logitech for raspberry pi's/other computers and honestly I prefer it over this.
@@adamweb No we don't, this looks great! I would love to have hotswap though, so I can take the switches out and lube them. They don't sound bad stock though, but I bet there's a lot of scratch inside. The stabilizers are what I'm hating, those needs to be fixed up, or just replaced. I'm digging the colourways and keycaps! I would've preferred to have the board be VIA/QMK compatible, and also the battery to be just a standard Lithium Ion rechargable one like all the other bluetooth boards out there, but at least the AA batteries are easy to swap out. Yeah, this board is worth looking at for keebsheads if they're willing to desolder all the switches. I do wish Logitech put some Kalih hotswap sockets on these...
Wow, it actually doesn't look very bad! If this was hotswappable, I would definitely consider. I am not deep into the hobby enough to start doing soldering work myself so I'm not gonna be able to customize this board, which is sad. If Plouffe want some streetcred in r/mk, maybe consider desoldering and customizing the board? Lube those Logitech browns, fix the stabilizers (straight wire, holee mod, lube), and put some foam into the case, and let's see if the board can be improved?
06:34 - Just to put that typing test in to perspective, most people type at around 40-50 words per minute, people who work with keyboards a lot will get around 60, and the higher bracket of those people will get about 75. People in professional typing positions will need to get around 80-90+, and then anyone around the 120 is considered a super fast typer. So for this guy to hit 114 with 97% accuracy on a keyboard hes just testing is pretty damn good.
I have their Pebl mouse which is what that pop mouse reminds me of. The magnet sucks but I think that increases durability, since the KE gets transferred into the top protecting the body. Since I dropped that mouse like a hundred times and it looks brand new. I also tried the circle keys since we still had a typewriter growing up. They're not good, even if short throw.
Typing this on my Logitech K380. It's surprisingly high quality, the round keys are super comfortable and it's very clicky. This should be even better... I just now realized how much more convenient it is to use bluetooth instead of USB. As nice as the bigger keyboards are, I love being able to move my keyboard around if I'm writing or drinking coffee.
Read elsewhere that the keys on these are actually closer together than the standard keyboards. So it's not the depth that's the problem. That pretty much breaks it for me, though, since I'm a really sloppy typer and make mistakes all day even on regular keyboards...quite unfortunate, because I really would love to have this for my iPad Pro.
i have one of these and i haven't noticed that the keys are closer together but i do know they use odd spacing for the keycaps so you really can't get any aftermarket ones right now, the space bar is shorter than average since there's a lot of modifier keys
I have little girl hands so I'd actually be okay with that lol. It sounds great! Now if we could reprogram the emoji keys and it had a split spacebar which could be programmed for backspace..
@@BB-nn9en so you actually can, with their software the emoji keys can just be rebound as macro keys. you can bind button combinations or straight up regular keys to any of the 5 emoji keys on the right
Yeah that's the cool thing about just liking what you want instead of appeasing the zeitgeist...you end up enjoying it! I like it too; and I DEFINITELY like the yellow/black colorbase.😀 Are the emoji keys editable to functions other than emojis?
Not sure why he doesn't like Romer Gs. Been using a Logitech keyboard with Romer Gs for the past year and love it, pretty quiet, nice tactile feel and easy to type on
Logitech finally started to listen to their consumers and put MX compatible switches on keyboard. Now, it's only a matter of time before somebody buys it, mods it into a chad keyboard and make a video of the whole process.
I hate when kbs and mice designed to go together don’t have the same level of click. I’ve used several sets where they were really different and I hated it. If I have a quiet membrane keyboard, then sure, a quit mouse is fine. But if my keyboard is making satisfying mechanical clicks all the time, the mouse should feel and sound that way too.
Ok. So, with this keyboard, I learned that Logitech is replacing Unifying receivers with new ones based on "Logi Bolt" technology, which is some extension of BLE 5.0 I hate, that they didn't make a transition period when the devices could be using both as this is probably just a software limitation.
@@nickiebanchou If I recall correctly the bandwidth of the gaming lightspeed accessories was too high to have multiple on one USB port. Maybe if they transition to usb 4 in the future.
BLE chipsets only do BLE, if they wanted one part that does both they would need a custom radio and thats a pretty huge initial cost. There is no real neat solution to this other than a special receiver that just has two radios, which would probably make it larger than the nano size receivers. Then again, why would they sell a BLE receiver when every other wifi chipset already supports it and USB dongles are readily available.
@@Bkindmonk Thats total nonsense, the bandwidth of peripherals is laughably small. They could be running on USB 1.1 just fine. At most, youre looking at 100kbps for mouse and keyboard each. Thats less than 0.05% of the available bandwidth on USB 2.
I was given one by a friend as a present, I sanded off the emojis (using very fine paper and a little water) from the keys and remapped them to be function keys because I'm not 15 and i prefer them blank but its the first mechanical keyboard Ive used in forever and I quite like the feel of the sucker, minus having to relearn how to type on it hah
The biggest flex in this impressions is the WPM. 114 is really good, especially on a new board... damn. Going back to the keyboard, I'm a MX-Brown user, and that space bar don't sound right. I also don't understand emoji, and that colour is... uniquely awful. Overall, I'll be avoiding this. Also, is it common for folks to use emoji on PC? I've only ever seen it on mobile phones. This gotta be a huge niche, right?
people have been using emojis on PC since literally the start of the internet... of course people use emojis on PC... is there some magical other way of putting an expression in a text sentence on PC?
actually getting one of these deadass. i like that it's small because my current razer keyboard takes up a LOT of my desk space. i also did a quick type test on one of these at my local best buy and i like that the keys bottom out fluidly and quietly (my razer keyboard clicks about halfway before the key bottoms out which feels weird and sounds rattle-y and loud, and that's how it's always been since i got it brand new), and i like that the emoji keys can be assigned to do pretty much anything, so i won't be missing out on the shortcut buttons i like on my razer (the volume up, volume down, wheel is useful so i can carry that over into keys, and it'll be nice to have 2 other keys i can assign to other functions as well). i shall call it the keydrill (because the colour scheme matches the pokémon 'beedrill')
I tried typing on round keycaps like that before and it was infuriating. I have typed on typewriters before and none had round buttons. Older ones tended to of course. I would be interested in this keyboard for the platform but with different keycaps.
75% keyboard is really useful and saves a lot of space, but then logitech decided to put emoji instead of useful keys like PgUp Home, which is a selling point for that form factor
Seen these on sale and love the look of them, the mouse is way too small for me but the keyboards just look funky and fun for a nice small wireless keyboard
@@neondemon5137 i do 140wpm in english on a membrane azerty keyboard that i haven't changed in years (... on monkeytype that is, on most other websites i get 110-120wpm)... but i don't reach that speed when typing normally, it's mostly unnecessary past some point. if i had to guess, most people with 100wpm+ have probably typed a lot starting at a young age. i don't think there's any easy trick to increase your wpm. practice is key, but i suspect you may hit a ceiling unless you're willing to spend unreasonable amounts of time on it to catch up. i wouldn't change to a more expensive keyboard just for the sake of increasing wpm. comfort would be the reason. same for things like changing to different layouts.
I’ve had this keyboard for like 8-ish months? Honestly, I just wanted something to pair with my Cyberpunk Razor mouse The typing experience is pretty clunky. I was just constantly making irritating errors and my typing speed was taking a pretty gnarly hit. I recently swapped out the key caps for some more tradition ones that I had laying around (for the keys I could switch) and it’s been a marked improvement since then Seems kind of pointless to have this keyboard with normal caps, but I found the gimmick wears off very quickly
So, to let people know, this seems to be aimed for the Business market. The reason I say this, is because it does away with the Unifying Receiver, and uses the new "Bolt" Receiver that boasts “Secure wireless connection, robust wireless signal, and cross-platform compatibility for mice and keyboards" which, I'm not too sure about. Regardless, if you are already in the Logitech Unifying ecosystem, this won't work, and you'll have another dongle.
I wanted the same thing as far as typewriter keycaps. I was able to find a set of Cherry compatible typewriter keycaps and just swapped them out. I think it was Amazon and they were cheap. Probably nicer ones out there
great keyboard, pretty brave move and well designed, hopefully we see much more of these unique styled custom keyboards. Because I would buy one rather than these lamer corsair style ones lol
got one for my mother at a discount, paid one for like 60 bucks, she's really happy with it, and it represents a decent value there. 100 bucks though? eeeeh I wouldn't have paid that much for that. I had hopes I could mod it a little bit but it's very difficult to do anything to that keyboard actually
I unironically love Romer-G's. I ended up buying a Das with the same switches (under a different name) when Logitech stopped pushing the Romer G keyboards out.
I also love romer-Gs lol... And i think a lot of the LMG team does too, they mentioned on the double blind keyboard video that they couldn't test romer G switches because they couldnt put them in that same keyboard they used for everything, and that they really wanted to as a bunch of people on the team loves them.

You don't need some weird keyboard to get into mechanical keyboards. Just getting a mechanical keyboard is enough.
@@arcanethink Wacky colors aside, this does count as a "just a mechanical keyboard".
@@arcanethink If someone just getting into mechanical keyboards I would recommend a hotswap board so they could change their mind on switches with a low risk
@@JuanPablo-ho7fg at 100 USD this is terrible value though. There are significantly better, non-tacky mechanical keyboards for under 100 bucks.
The battery life on logitech keyboards is so damn good that I dont even mind them not being rechargable
I actually really like the fact it uses batteries. I get rechargeable ones, and tend to cycle. Much better for the planet too.
@@bland9876 that's because lithium coin cell batteries batteries for the CR2016 and CR2032 varieties tend to have a 5 to 10 year life span if used lightly in a climate controlled sitting, or in something like a PC motherboard to keep bios settings, and the RTC going.
Glad to see more Plouffe reviewing keyboards! More of this please!
The raise is already on this channel, reviewed by James I think. It's actually what inspired me to buy it for myself
@@kincaide2882 I actually revisited the video after watching this, and thought the coverage of the keyboards were too different. James was more focused on aesthetics and theoretical ways to use, but Nicholas is more on the practical use of typing on the keyboard and how it actually feels.
Thinking about it, round caps with a brass plate would look sick.
Sounds like a recipe for a steampunk aesthetic keyboard TBH. Probably exists already, or at least something that matches that look. Real brass would definitely up the price.
He look like Walmart knock off linus that is surprising better than the name brand version
I really wanted to like this, I love matching my setups to a theme and they looked super cute. But, when they let me open one instore and I had a tippy tap on them keys I was pretty disappointed. A lot of the keys were very wobbly and some were noticeably softer and harder than others which spoiled it. I still love how it looks but it seems like maybe there's a bit of a qc issue cause people do seem to enjoy it from what I see.
the looks is pretty solid, one or two generation would probably redefines our statement on this
@@ouwkyuha Bold of you to assume this is going to have a second or a third generation.
I really liked this emoji concept. I used emjois quite alot and 5 keys (with shift = 10 emojis) are sufficient and very useful.
maybe...just...don't use emojis?
I love seeing Nicolas review keyboard! He’s the only one from LTT that I trust with keyboard reviews. Keep up the good work!
Not Taran?
I have the red/pink one and i love it. The only thing, I wish it had the number pad like the regular keyboards.
not sure why everyone is hating on this thing, the dream color is awesome! i love this board and will definitely pick one up!
keyboard snobs hate brown switches and keyboards under $500 :)
For a stock keyboard, the keys sound pretty good! Larger keys have a lot of rattle, but the rest of the board sounds rather pleasant.
But Browns…
@@spxctreofficial Most of the people who buy this kind of keyboard would be using it for typing anyways.
@@chrischoy9 still it is browns

"Don't chew on batteries!" I love this dude XD
06:34 - Just to put that typing test in to perspective, most people type at around 40-50 words per minute, people who work with keyboards a lot will get around 60, and the higher bracket of those people will get about 75.
People in professional typing positions will need to get around 80-90+, and then anyone around the 120 is considered a super fast typer.
So for this guy to hit 114 with 97% accuracy on a keyboard hes just testing is pretty damn good.
I had a big time “bruh” moment at that part of the video. Jesus, I don’t think I could type 114 if I trained for the next 6 months
@@BB-nn9en so you actually can, with their software the emoji keys can just be rebound as macro keys. you can bind button combinations or straight up regular keys to any of the 5 emoji keys on the right
@@sir_wheat_thins Sounds good. thanks

The yellow is by far the best part…. Plus it’s black with yellow highlights. super sexy color scheme.
I love the yellow grey and black scheme. Feels super late 90s early 2000s.
Ok. So, with this keyboard, I learned that Logitech is replacing Unifying receivers with new ones based on "Logi Bolt" technology, which is some extension of BLE 5.0
I hate, that they didn't make a transition period when the devices could be using both as this is probably just a software limitation.
sucks, why can't they put everything to lightspeed ? i thought this was the successor to unifying :'(
@@nickiebanchou If I recall correctly the bandwidth of the gaming lightspeed accessories was too high to have multiple on one USB port. Maybe if they transition to usb 4 in the future.
@@Bkindmonk lightspeed dongles are still using usb2 tho
I like this guy on camera. He's confident, doesn't fumble over his words like David sometimes, and knows what he's talking about.
Hopefully Logitech creates a gen 2 version of this keyboard and mouse with most of the kinks worked out of it.
gen 2: Electric Boogaloo
actually getting one of these deadass. i like that it's small because my current razer keyboard takes up a LOT of my desk space. i also did a quick type test on one of these at my local best buy and i like that the keys bottom out fluidly and quietly (my razer keyboard clicks about halfway before the key bottoms out which feels weird and sounds rattle-y and loud, and that's how it's always been since i got it brand new), and i like that the emoji keys can be assigned to do pretty much anything, so i won't be missing out on the shortcut buttons i like on my razer (the volume up, volume down, wheel is useful so i can carry that over into keys, and it'll be nice to have 2 other keys i can assign to other functions as well). i shall call it the keydrill (because the colour scheme matches the pokémon 'beedrill')
I tried typing on round keycaps like that before and it was infuriating. I have typed on typewriters before and none had round buttons. Older ones tended to of course. I would be interested in this keyboard for the platform but with different keycaps.
I would hope that you can shift-click the emoji buttons to do a secondary emoji, like shift-click thumbs-up for thumbs-down.
Haven't seen this fella around. I like him, and hope to see more of his reviews in the coming days. :)

The crying laughter emoji means "I am 40 and that is funny!" and there's never only one of it. Three of them is the bare minimum I think.
How do you type so damn fast? I am trying to learn typing but can’t pass 60wpm with 95% accuracy.

@@grammarcorrector5946 honestly yeah, there’s no real way to explain how you type faster than someone else
Type slower - get closer to 100% accuracy and then typing speed will rise naturally.

The only thing this keyboard is missing is an actual typewriter sound for the switches
It's like they did the design work back when everyone thought cyberpunk 2077 was going to be the game of the century.
despite the bugs, it is
I’ve had this keyboard for like 8-ish months? Honestly, I just wanted something to pair with my Cyberpunk Razor mouse
The typing experience is pretty clunky. I was just constantly making irritating errors and my typing speed was taking a pretty gnarly hit. I recently swapped out the key caps for some more tradition ones that I had laying around (for the keys I could switch) and it’s been a marked improvement since then
Seems kind of pointless to have this keyboard with normal caps, but I found the gimmick wears off very quickly
it's the key profile, they're uniform and flat which means your fingers slip easily, and hard to tell keys apart

What a coincidence. I was watching today the emoji keyboard video by Tom Scott
3:21 "I heart everything" - *looks at all the comments below* Dude where is the hearts I expected to see!!
There’s no MacOS/Windows toggle on it, it just detects a Mac or Windows device and adjusts the key mapping accordingly
“I never use emojis” ok grandpa 👴🏻😅
got one for my mother at a discount, paid one for like 60 bucks, she's really happy with it, and it represents a decent value there. 100 bucks though? eeeeh I wouldn't have paid that much for that. I had hopes I could mod it a little bit but it's very difficult to do anything to that keyboard actually
Biggest problem I would have with it is that it isn't a full keyboard. I might be in the minority but I can't stand to not have a built in number pad.
What's the other name they're under?
"I hate emojis, never use them."
"I use emojis when texting my girlfriend !"

It's cute. Super compact. Colorful. I mean weird colors though. Pastel pink, Pastel purple, and Yellow. Seems like Red, Blue, White, Black would have been where you should have started if you wanted mass market appeal. I guess if you were outfitting a colorful hip modern office place these would make sense. The silent mouse, the relatively quiet but still clicky browns. Small form factor. They kinda scream cubicle warrior. As does the relatively long battery life. I'd just rather buy a Keychron for like half the money and put on keycaps myself.
Can you adjust what the Emojis are? Like switch them to other macros? That would be pretty useful
