Be careful it is such an insidious disease ...Found myself drinking 4 bottles of wine after being g almost 6 months sober...AA meetings 2 a day a times does help. Good luck!
I drank a number of times in high school just so I would fit in with my peers. I never could control it and would almost always drink too much and make myself sick. When I was 25, I got wasted and extremely sick. Hangover took almost 48 hours to recover from. Promised myself I would never get drunk again after that. 56 now and kept my promise. Haven't been drunk since 1993. In fact, I don't drink period. Can't even remember the last time I had anything alcoholic and have zero desire for it.
I remember few years back after my wife died, I was left alone with 3 kids. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got to alcohol and cigarettes. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment changed my life for better. I can proudly say i'm totally clean for 6 years and still counting. Always look to nature for solution to tough problems, Shrooms are phenomenal.
I love hearing great life changing stories like this. Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Blew-out my liver from years of drinking. My belly looked like I was pregnant-- grew really big over 3-days (acites), my legs swelled like elephant legs, and my skin was turning yellow in my face. Doc's said I almost died in the hospital twice during 8-days of emergency care. Came an inch close to needing a liver transplant and I still may need one if it goes "south" again. Have be tested several times a year now, no alcohol at all, medication and a modified diet. No fun. It snuck up on me. I had no warning at all until the fast swelling and yellowing. Be careful.
@@melissamoonchild9216 The oldest known person in the world who died recently was a woman in Russia who was a hard-liquor alcoholic. My docs said that not every alcoholic develops life-threatening cirrhosis. Some liver damage? yes, but not life-threatening. For me it's different. They did a genetic test on me and I have 2 messed up genes which causes my liver to react much more poorly to alcohol than some other's.
@@Wagga-mt6cx A hangover is not even remotely a warning sign. A hangover is normal. What my docs consider warning signs are rapid belly bloating (ascites) over 1-3 days, gross swelling of the legs during that same time, jaundice, and acute mental confusion (even during sober period, caused by a damaged liver not clearing certain toxins from the blood and those toxins (usually ammonia) reaching the brain. And of course liver pain. So, previous to 3-days before going to the hospital I did not have ANY of those symptoms. They educated me on all the above. A hangover has NOTHING to do with being a warning sign of liver disease. In fact just the opposite. Early stage drinkers often get hangovers. Seasoned alcoholics do not usually get hangovers anymore.
@nicholastsironis1514 Well... duh. But do you know how stupid that sounds? Millions of people drink far more than I ever did each day and don't blow-out their liver like mine did. And social drinkers live their entire life without significant liver damage. Drinking is not the problem. Abuse, length of abuse, diet, insufficient pre-damage medical care and genetics is the problem.
To be honest, the speed with which alcohol hits is the point. As a high functioning alcoholic in a very stressful profession, I definitely want that rapid relief from stress and anxiety. After the alcohol hits, I can finally breathe. I know exactly what I am doing and why. It's not just an addiction, it's a choice.
In college (chemical engineer) we built an analytical model to imitate the human body and confirmed the rate of metabolism is actually this slow or slower, depending on some variables. Regardless of how much coffee, water, food you intake, you cannot change how fast your body metabolizes alcohol.
No, not all drugs do not potentiate another drug, potentiate means increase the potency of. Caffeine neither enhances nor reduces the effects of alcohol.
12 years without a drink, well one slip. I’m 53. I never ever thought I’d quit. Went to rehab twice. Didn’t work at all but I learned something. It ruined my drinking. It ruined my conscious. Once did a drinking contest with a friend in college. We used a chess clock, set it at 7.5 minutes on each side. We each selected a liquor ahead of time. I chose tequila, and his was Captain Morgan spiced rum. The way it worked was we would each do a shot, then hit the clock, starting the 7.5 minute timer on the other side. Then we each had to do another shot before the 7.5 minutes was up, or the chess clock would hit zero and the alarm would go off, and that person would lose. The winner would be the person who didn’t puke first. After shot 13, which was taken around the 1.5 hour mark, I threw up in one of the several buckets we had around - see, we planned ahead, because we were smart about it, lololol. A few minutes later, he threw up too. But I puked first, so he won. We had a friend who owned a video camera - this was the early 2000s before video cameras were super cheap and everyone had them - record the whole thing. And we had a sort of party planned around the contest. Years later, around 2008 or 2009, I got the VHS converted to a DVD at one of those places that did that service. So that can still be watched whenever needed. Not sure when it would be needed, but it’s there, lololol. I did point out to him - the winner that is - that his chosen liquor was 70 proof, while mine was 80 proof, so I was consuming about 14% more alcohol than him. That was something we should have standardized ahead of time. So if we do it again, that will be a stipulation. But, no interest in doing it again, just watching the video. There’s a bunch of other funny stuff in there. A neighborhood crackhead made an appearance. We each got “interviewed” by the guy wielding the camera, and some other stuff that is thankfully saved on video.
Throwing up is a sign of overdosing on alcohol. That is a sign of your body trying to save you. You also can overdose on alcohol and die from it. Guys, be thankful that you survived this. Please don't do this again. It's not worth dying over. ❤🎉😊

Apart from the clearly bad maths the Doc hasn’t corrected in the video, this is something printed on alcoholic beverages here in Australia. I don’t know if it is so in the US but here, anything with alcohol for consumption will tell you how many “standard drinks” it contains, which equals approximately how much alcohol the average person will metabolise over a period of time.. example: say a beer here is 1.2 standard drinks, that means that drink will take the average person 1 hour and 10 minutes to metabolise that drink. 🤙
We don't have that in the US, we just drink it until the ugly girls are pretty.

Thank you for this post, I really appreciate your explanation on alcoholic beverages absorption rate! I have been drinking for decades and now I know!❤🤔
Great way to simply describe nonlinear metabolism. Sipping slowly over time allows the liver to “keep up”…as doc says, shots overwhelm the liver’s ability to keep up.

But I can't live without some of that H20, yo! I neeed it, man! Come on...hook me up! What you got? Wait...is that Evian?! Oooooh that ish is gooood! Did you lace it with tapwater, though. Heart breaking when my late brother was suffering from a water addiction. He'd be drinking from the sinks and even had a gallon bottle in the fridge so he wouldn't run out after going through a case of 16oz bottles through the week. We tried to take it away from him and he kept begging for it and he said die without it. Little did he know it was the withdrawal that took his life.
This is why knowing the alcohol content of what you’re drinking is really important to pacing and drinking safely, so you can drive home safely and keep your everyone else on the road safe as well
This is the exact reason I almost died. You think you’re fine so you keep drinking, no one tells you when it all hits finally you find out how alcohol can stop your breathing. I have had friends watch me sleep before from the fear of it. Super scary kids please be safe.
There is also a store of the enzyme that can help breakdown alcohol in your liver. Everyone produces different amounts at different rates. The main result of this is alcohol doesn't just have a cumulative effect, but almost more of an logarithmic effect. Where the more shots you drink the stronger each shot becomes. This effect kicks in when your liver runs out of that enzyme allowing far more alcohol to reach your bloodstream. Making each drink after this ammount (roughly 2-3 drinks for most) will result in a far stronger and longer lasting drunk then even just one shot less.
Wow, I’m struggling with alcoholism. Working on quitting. But yesterday I was trying to get drunk and felt like it was NOT working(even after good amount of wait time and 3-5 shots!) Drank a few more shots and was all of a sudden wasted. I was thinking yesterday and today, why did it take so much this time? Cool explanation!
I can’t even drink alcohol anymore, because my body doesn’t properly produce the enzyme that break down alcohol. It’s an alcohol intolerance, but i get symptoms like i’m extremely allergic. whenever i drink, i end up with a excessive buildup of ethanol in my body, which causes the body to basically go into protective overdrive. I get bright red, inflammation in my face, hands and feet. Migraines, nausea, heart palpitations. And this will happen within an hour of me having a few drinks. if i do drink, i literally have to drink super slow to allow more time for my body to break it down. At that rate, alcohol is kinda useless, it just makes me tired when i drink slow.
I went to a high school reunion the other day. I hadn’t seen some of these people in almost 50 years. I started off with a scotch and intended to drink them through the night. Midway through the first one I thought, “Why drink this swill?” I dumped it and told the bartended to give me one of those “Snapples” behind the bar in the refrigerator. I somehow lost my taste and desire to drink alcohol. It just no longer makes me feel loose with myself and in sync with others. But, at one time, alcohol was a very enjoyable useful substance to help me relax. It just seems to interfere with my thinking process these days. But, I always loved food, exercise, water, fruits, tea, coffee and Traditional Chinese Herbal tonics to help me feel good and cope with life, maneuvering it safely and most productively. Some authentic traditional herbal tonics can really sync your body, emotions and mind where you feel very healthy and clear.

The man is giving you a great deal of life saving advice here. Having your liver fail is no joke. The terrible things that happen to people when the liver fails I wouldn’t wish on anyone. My husband was an alcoholic who drank every day all day. This kind of death is slow and very painful. It’s devastating to your family as well but alcoholic are some of the most selfish people in the world. No one or nothing is more important than the drinking. 😢
I wish I could dislike this comment 25 times! They arent selfish, they are HURTING! And the ONLY way they know how to relieve the pain is through self-medication. Only selfish people worry more about themselves than the person drinking themselves to death!
Indeed. I also learned years ago that the body can only process 1oz of water or any liquid per hour as well. Including alcohol yes, but most people over drink everything.
Not always! i could always handle my ex-wifes nagging BETTER when i was drinking than when i was sober! As soon as we got divorced, I no longer had a reason to drink! LOL
After quitting several years ago, i remember how nice it was to be able to get in my car anytime day or night with no alcohol in my system. Such a big relief knowing I’m driving completely sober. God knows i deserved over 100 DUI’s. I knew some day my luck would run out. Fortunately never had one.
I only do 120 and I fast and meditate 3 out of 7 days and when I eat it’s usually fruits and veggies or chia seeds/oats and one day of the week is my cheat day for Sandwhich or Mexican or Indian or Thai food
When I was 16 years old, a neighbor (with his wife) would have me come over two to three times a week, and they would mix drinks and include me in drinking them. As a 16 year old I thought it was probably cool that adults were allowing me to do this, but after two or three months I feared I'd become an alcoholic because I started liking the effects how the alcohol was making me feel so I stopped drinking until I was older. I'm 60 years old now, and for years, I've thought about how the outcome could have been much different had I continued to get drunk at such a young age.
Omg. If I was your parent....you would be banned from going to that place and I would have words with couple plying you with drinks. You were 16! They don't get to give you permission! Your parents do! I love a drink, I do. But no way my child is going to an adults house for drinks. Nope
This is why people can wake up drunk/over the alcohol limit for driving: 20 ounces of alcohol takes 20 hours to get out of your system. I used to work in a liquor store and heard too many stories of people drinking too much the night before and getting caught up the next day because they hadn't thought they were still drunk.
One time I took 2 shots of whiskey, after a while I thought I wasnt feeling it so I took another one, and it all hit me at once for some reason so I knocked out and woke up feeling discombobulated
Drinker of 16 years here and never had a bad hangover. 45 years old and age guessed at 25 regularly (I still get carded every time usually). PRO TIP: Water is your absolute best friend on a heavy night. Chug that H2O before, when and after the drinks. And I mean a LOT of water. Also helps to take some supplements like a good quality multivitamin or two before you sleep to help replenish the lost nutrients to the body from alcohol metabolizing.

Basically all things we consider drugs are poison (alcohol is a drug btw): THC and Nicotine are both pesticides, dolphins literally get high on pufferfish toxins. We like using these poisons because they change our function and we find that fun. Or because it gives a huge dopamine rush (like sugar, which is t e c h n i c a l l y a drug, or cocaine).
Your liver is there to convert anything we ingest (aspirin, vitamins, alcohol, etc) to a safer form...if it's possible. You can overdose on Benadryl or probiotics by the way. The liver is good, it just can't be overloaded.
Usually when you think your good you're actually not good. Sometimes people drink to the point where they've had enough but never consider that you will feel the effects even more as time passes.
I had gastric bypass surgery and I cannot drink alcohol it hits me like a drug within 20 seconds. It feels like someone injected you with a drug, it's actually scary.
oh really its not like alcohol is a drug already😂 Its a pretty strong drug tbh considering it kills more people a year than every illegal drug combined. crazy how that works
i relapsed after a year &7 months of sobriety. weekend bender and it just reminded me of the many bad times with it. don’t stay down for ever after the fall. you will recover 🫶
One of the most important things I learned from meetings is that relapses happen. It's great that instead of beating yourself up, you picked yourself up and got yourself back to sobriety ❤
Your liver doesn't "burn off" or digest alcohol. It produces enzymes that metabolise alcohol, and it does it based on the amount of alcohol in the blood, which is based on the alcohol content of the drink not volume of the drink. Liver cells produce the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase which breaks alcohol into ketones at a rate of about 0.015 g/100mL/hour (reduces BAC by 0.015 per hour). This is also an average as everyone's body's(weight), organ health, and metabolism rates are different. So while the average rate is 1 shot, 1 beer, 1 glass of wine, per hour, you can take a 1oz shot of some alcohols that have different % of alcohol by volume. They're still the same amount of 1 oz of liquid, but are different amounts of alcohol %(proof) by volume. You have to be very clear about this as some people may say well i can drink a bottle of wine in a night and that's the same amount of liquid as a fifth of a spirit of liqueur. But the spirits and liqueur will usually have a bit more ABV.
Yes, it's not quite as cut and dry as this short is stating. To be clear he's not wrong, per se. It's a bit more complicated than that, and a person who's 300lbs and 6'5" can probably drink 5 shots and their body handle it far better than a person who's 5'5" and 125lbs. The person has a bigger liver, producing more enzymes etc. His short is more of a general rule of thumb that applies on average to the average person. Blood alcohol content is far more complex person to person and the variations from person to person is what makes the difference. It's not always if you drink 5 oz in an hour your liver only produces enough enzymes to metabolize one shot for everyone.
I have no use for alcohol. My niece was mixing drinks and passed out 8pm on Thanksgiving. She laid on the couch for the rest of the night. Her mom came by and looked over the couch keeping an eye on her. This is normalized in my family. It's the saddest thing ever. Sobriety is a beautiful thing along with healthy coping skills
Nah, the metabolization speed is based on 1 standard drink per hour, and it isn't an exact science, more like a generalized rule. So like 1 beer, 1 glass of wine, 1 shot of 40% alcohol, etc. This is also ignoring genetic differences in metabolization speeds of alcohol, some people are poor metabolizers, others are hyper metabolizers. Thus, some people might be more like 0.75 standard drinks per hour, and others might be 1.5.
in my opinion the feeling of alcohol is the most overhyped experience, which Im thankful for having such a high tolerance because Ive met a lot of alcoholic friends and can only really see the bad side of it and the harm it causes.
Your liver's ability to metabolize alcohol is highly varied by several variables. In a nutshell, there are two enzymes it produces, ADH and ALDH2 that break down the ethanol into other harmless chemicals. Having "tolerance" is your body producing more of these enzymes because they are useful. You can also eat pears, sweet lime and cucumbers to increase production of these. You can also combat the oxidative stress with antioxidants. There's a lot that you can do to improve all this.

I drank a number of times in high school just so I would fit in with my peers. I never could control it and would almost always drink too much and make myself sick.
I want to become a mycologist because honestly mushrooms are the best form of medicine (most especially the psychedelic ones) There are so many people today used magic mushrooms to ween off of SSRI medication- its amazing! Years back i wrote an entire essay about psychedelics. they saved you from death buddy, lets be honest here.
Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Where can I find those psilocybin mushrooms? I'm really interested in treating my mental health without Rxs. I live in Australia don't know much about these. I'm so glad they helped you. I can't wait to get them too. Really need a reliable source 🙏
YES sure of mycologist Predroshrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, addiction. Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.

Be careful.
the years of drinking was the warning my friend
Your warning was years of drinking. Your telling me you went all that time without a hangover?
@@melissamoonchild9216
The oldest known person in the world who died recently was a woman in Russia who was a hard-liquor alcoholic.
My docs said that not every alcoholic develops life-threatening cirrhosis. Some liver damage? yes, but not life-threatening. For me it's different. They did a genetic test on me and I have 2 messed up genes which causes my liver to react much more poorly to alcohol than some other's.
@@Wagga-mt6cx
A hangover is not even remotely a warning sign.
@nicholastsironis1514
Well...

Since caffine is a drug wouldn't it make the effects stronger?
No, not all drugs do not potentiate another drug, potentiate means increase the potency of. Caffeine neither enhances nor reduces the effects of alcohol.

Upload them to your TH-cam channel and share!

This is why knowing the alcohol content of what you’re drinking is really important to pacing and drinking safely, so you can drive home safely and keep your everyone else on the road safe as well
Thank you for teaching me that I need to drink quicker so that it lasts longer 😂
Actually, not as fast so you don't pass out 😂
This is the exact reason I almost died.
So your synopsis is that you should drink more to get more drunk then? 😅😅
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you!
I'm not fact checking this but it sounds sciencey enough that I'll assume it's accurate with a grain of salt. Thanks for the alleged info👍

I wish I could dislike this comment 25 times! They arent selfish, they are HURTING! And the ONLY way they know how to relieve the pain is through self-medication. Only selfish people worry more about themselves than the person drinking themselves to death!
And SMOKERS are the most INCONSIDERATE people in the world. It should be against the law PERIOD! (Full Stop).
@@inconnu4961 I agree. My son was severely depressed and totally mentally and physically addicted to alcohol. He could not shake the addiction.
Selfish? They're sick. Do better.
Indeed. I also learned years ago that the body can only process 1oz of water or any liquid per hour as well.
Including alcohol yes, but most people over drink everything.
Being sober is the best!
Not always! i could always handle my ex-wifes nagging BETTER when i was drinking than when i was sober!

Weak people still drinking. The cool people know how to live and have fun without drinking. Yes...we all know this.

So 5 shots after work and ill still live by morning. Great advice.
>what a 145hr work week does to a mf:
Edit: this man has in fact, as a neurosurgeon, worked a 145hr work week.
I only do 120 and I fast and meditate 3 out of 7 days and when I eat it’s usually fruits and veggies or chia seeds/oats and one day of the week is my cheat day for Sandwhich or Mexican or Indian or Thai food
We talking about work or diet 145hr in a week is crazy I've hit 125 before but fuck 145
@@ckGan-id9fw wtf are you guys made of? 120 is 17 hours a day for 7 days. I’m barely awake 17 hours each day
What do you mfrs do? How are you getting those hours?

This is unreal.
You were very self aware at such a young age. Thank you for sharing!
Omg. If I was your parent....you would be banned from going to that place and I would have words with couple plying you with drinks. You were 16! They don't get to give you permission! Your parents do!
I love a drink, I do. But no way my child is going to an adults house for drinks. Nope
Why were your neighbours inviting you over for alcoholic drinks at 16 years old? This story sounds shady 😬
You should’ve let them take advantage of you
Nearly your now age I can tell you you will lose everything
In love with your oven/range. Pretty kitchen, too. Oh, right, you were talking about alcohol. lol
My sister got pulled over at 9am after New Year’s Eve. She stopped drinking at 1 am and thought she could drive to work the next day. She got a dwi.
my friend was BORN drunk.....
20 oz of alcohol. Alcohol isn't a unit of measurement. 20 beers and 20 shots of liqour are 2 very different things.

Both my blood Father and step father died early because of alcoholism. Forty four years old with one and fifty seven for the other. My mother was a co-dependent alcoholic and currently suffers from alzheimer’s,dementia, and sun downers syndrome. Very hard life for all of them.

People forget alcohol is technically poison
Are you sure?
What makes it so poisonous?
@@deliennemoncrieft1688It’s the number 2 of yeast.
@@SqueakyPeepsSo, why dose at all?
BTW I love the cross above the stove, everything Cooked is blessed. How beautiful
Yep i had to realize that...I can't drink like that after gastric surgery
Yep. We are now really cheap drunks! One glass of wine and I am tipsy. No more wine at dinner if I am driving
oh really its not like alcohol is a drug already😂 Its a pretty strong drug tbh considering it kills more people a year than every illegal drug combined. crazy how that works
Instead of gastric surgery, couldn't you just eat less?
Yes

So in short, it’s not that cut and dried as this short leads us to believe?
@@civilwildman^
Thanks for posting this. It's something that requires more nuance than just saying, "1 oz/hr."
@@bulletproofair yes exactly! You're most welcome

Why do you love the cross? Have you even read the Bible? You like rape, slavery, and misogyny?
It’d be funny if after the fifth shot Doc started back at the beginning and then the video kept looping
If those were 1-ounce shots of liquor, most of which is 80 proof or 40% alcohol, then you only consumed 2 ounces of actual alcohol in those 5 shots.

@frankdysthe5765 I think she died from it already.
Sorry to hear what were your symptoms please
How much did you drink? And does such issues run in the family?

in my opinion the feeling of alcohol is the most overhyped experience, which Im thankful for having such a high tolerance because Ive met a lot of alcoholic friends and can only really see the bad side of it and the harm it causes.
No alcohol since 2002...poison is poison is poison.
I would happily quit alcohol if I thought my life would improve without it.
Milk thistle supplements too
