Here in Brazil, at least in rural São Paulo where I live, sugarcane juice is called garapa. My belated father used to own a countryside house where we grew sugarcane and drank garapa and chew on raw, peeled sugarcane. Sometimes I have a craving for garapa. Miss you, dad!
Tropical country folks like me would know the taste of freshly squeezed sugarcane juice. Filled to the brim with ice, lemon and mint! Nothing beats the summer heat like that!
We Indian are doing this for centuries. The caramelized brown thick paste which you made out of sugar cane is called 'gud' in Indian language. It is really healthy and naturally made.
Yep.. it’s made out of sugarcane.. that paste is made into hard solid jaggery which is way better form that processing sugar. Sugarcane juice during summers is so healthy to drink…
There is no health benefits to drinking gud/gur although the taste is tangy and overall better People circulating myth about gur being more healthy should know the chemistry doesn't change
Wooooh... that's incredible! Thank you! This is now on my garden list! 🤔 I think you can buy the dehydrated juice at whole foods... it's called 'sucanot'. I tried it but never used it much, but now that I understand it better, I'm going back to the drawing board. I also think you can buy a cone of crystallized juice super cheap in the Mexican food section of Walmart.
Grew up drinking this in South Brazil. Sugar cane juice we call "garapa" and we had to squeeze / press it by hand using a geared hand machine. It gets better when we would thown lemons together and pressing in with the cane. The taste is unbelievable (can also do it with pineapple) If you get a quantity of sugar cane juice you can go on boiling it away to reduce water ... It comes down to a thick paste you can brick it for long term storage or make real brown sugar. The best sugar you can get. Also the waste pressed fibers can be used as food for cattle and they absolutely love it.

I am really glad you emphasised that the juice should be drinked in moderation, because while homemade, it is still essentially sugar. Great video, man!
yeap but it's not 'essentially sugar' even after evaporation of the excess of water (thus making it into the product called jaggery) it still has 10-30% of non-sugar ingredients
I love drinking sugar cane 🧃🥤 juice. We cubans and cuban Americans in miami call it guarapo. Its great and refreshing. But remember in moderation because its pure sugar and fructose which is not really healthy. Coconut 🥥 water 🌊💦 is much healthier than guarapo. More nutrients atbd less sugar and more hydrating. Sugar is sugar. How healthy sugar is, is a matter of moderation. You can eat only organic, homemade sugar and still have diabetes and high blood pressure.
@@phenel refined sugar is refined sugar. Eating refined sugar is not the same as eating fruit. Fruits have fiber and vitamins and other things that make eating it good for you. Indeed. Sugar is sugar. Dates, jackfruit, any suspiciously sweet fruit, doesn't make it "natural" and healthy if not consumed in moderation.
“Everything in moderation”
Glad you added that bit. Well in 👏
Why did I hear geowizard saying “get in” when I read this
How much is moderation??? Seriously asking
i go by the rule eat till it doesn’t taste as good as the first bite that’s when my body says i’m done it may not work but is an idea
❤
But he lied and said it was better for you. Bro it is the same shit as sugar at the store, bro is thinking he is so special because he made it when it has no added health benefits

I love this guy! Your energy is electric.
Indians doing this since thosands of yrs ❤ we prefer jaggery over sugar
Here in Brazil, at least in rural São Paulo where I live, sugarcane juice is called garapa. My belated father used to own a countryside house where we grew sugarcane and drank garapa and chew on raw, peeled sugarcane. Sometimes I have a craving for garapa. Miss you, dad!
I will NEVER stop saying, "thank you dad, for showing me how to grow my food..."
Love your videos, long form and shorts. Please continue to make these videos and take good care
Tropical country folks like me would know the taste of freshly squeezed sugarcane juice. Filled to the brim with ice, lemon and mint! Nothing beats the summer heat like that!
Do you dilute it?
@@megancrager4397 No, just drink straight out from the juicer.
I read sugar is poison that's why it corrodes the enamel on your teeth is that not true ?
Is it just the sugar in America?
Ah man I wish I could experience that. I live in Canada. Probably can’t grow that in our short summers.
We Indian are doing this for centuries. The caramelized brown thick paste which you made out of sugar cane is called 'gud' in Indian language. It is really healthy and naturally made.
Oh it's real gud
Actually I think you mean Gur. Also known as Jaggery
Here comes another chest thumping Indian !
Yep.. it’s made out of sugarcane.. that paste is made into hard solid jaggery which is way better form that processing sugar.
Sugarcane juice during summers is so healthy to drink…
There is no health benefits to drinking gud/gur although the taste is tangy and overall better
People circulating myth about gur being more healthy should know the chemistry doesn't change

I grew up in a tropical area. One of my fond past memories is when we got this sugar cane and i remember chewing on it. It was amazing.
we just do that too, like chew it until it's dried out
Same in India! Good memories!
Grew up drinking this in South Brazil.
Sugar cane juice we call "garapa" and we had to squeeze / press it by hand using a geared hand machine.
It gets better when we would thown lemons together and pressing in with the cane. The taste is unbelievable (can also do it with pineapple)
If you get a quantity of sugar cane juice you can go on boiling it away to reduce water ... It comes down to a thick paste you can brick it for long term storage or make real brown sugar. The best sugar you can get.
Also the waste pressed fibers can be used as food for cattle and they absolutely love it.
Along with lemon try adding some mint leaves and black salt as we do it in India, you'll get a perfect summer drink
@@shashankddun
Why BLACK salt?!
@@rolandmeyer3729 it tastes awesome bro, better than regular salt
@@rolandmeyer3729you’d be surprised at how much salt is in sweet drinks, next time you have a can of soda look at the sodium levels on the nutrition label
Gross dude. Stay out of the global north
I am really glad you emphasised that the juice should be drinked in moderation, because while homemade, it is still essentially sugar. Great video, man!
yeap
but it's not 'essentially sugar' even after evaporation of the excess of water (thus making it into the product called jaggery) it still has 10-30% of non-sugar ingredients
drinked?

Farming can be back breaking (especially if your food is stolen by a feudal overlord) but you get to grow a living thing and exist off YOUR own work.
Not that I'm a farmer, but there is certainly something there.
You're the most wonderfully informed & informative garden gnome I have ever seen or heard of 💚💙💜
My grandfather used to do this. They pressed the whole cane, peel n all, and made syrup out of the juice. They grew a lot of it and had a press that had been around since the 1800s!!! We loved the fresh juice, and the leftovers after pressing were given to the cows. Oh yeah drink in moderation for sure, it's better than prune juice in getting things moving.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't that syrup called molasses?
@@williamyelton6351yeah I was thinking the same thing.
@williamyelton6351 No, molasses is made from sorghum cane, mostly breeds of milo. Milo is distantly related to sugar cane.
You munch on the cane, don't press all of it :(

My mother grew sugarcane in the back yard in South Florida. She’d hack some off with her machete and make guarapo. How lovely to see a video about this amazing beverage. 🇨🇺🇺🇸❤❤❤
This is common here on Brazil on any farmers market you can find selling pastels(fried food) and "caldo de cana"( the juice you make on this video) usually we mix with other fruit juices like lemon or passion fruit.

Sugar is sugar.
How healthy sugar is, is a matter of moderation.
You can eat only organic, homemade sugar and still have diabetes and high blood pressure.
Yes, but eating a teaspoon of sugar or a whole orange is not the same thing. Don't be ignorant.
@@phenel refined sugar is refined sugar.
Eating refined sugar is not the same as eating fruit.
Fruits have fiber and vitamins and other things that make eating it good for you.
The added fiber and complexity of the food make it digeat slower and you won't be hit with a sugar rush and a fast crash after that.
@@phenel you're the one who's ignorant. Fruit isn't refined sugar. Sugar is sugar. It's the same molecule.
Well if you a shit load of it yes. I agree. But you can’t compare the homemade sugar he made in the pot with the white over processed sugar that has chemicals and God knows what else in it. Cmon man.
