Nearly EVERY review this guy does for a Toyota/Lexus product, he says that they're underpowered and they should do this or that. But oddly enough, they continue to WIN with quality, value, style, reliability and ample power when needed. Toyota is the #1 selling automotive brand WORLDWIDE for all of those reasons. They're smart, they appeal to a broader audience than most and they actually listen to needs of their consumers. At times, they're slow to react, but for good reason. They do LOTS of testing to be sure a change isn't a faulty one all while protecting their brand.
They don't fix what's not broken. Isn't that what they teach in MBA programs. Don't fix something that's working. Boring yes, dependable, hell yes. Only complaint is that Toyota/Lexus products don't feel safe. They feel flimsy and death traps.
I drove this car and you obviously don’t get it. I was able to keep up with a BMW 328i driving this car in Sport mode and I am 100% sure it will cost less to own and technologically is better than that 3-series. It’s a much quicker car than the CT200h which is still a great little car...You obviously do not know how to objectively review cars. Every car isn’t going to be a BMW M3 and to expect it to be like a BMW or Audi is showing you’re not exactly an objective automobile reviewer. The UX 250h is a great little car! And this is coming from someone who owned a BMW 335i.
328i 0-60 = 6.0 seconds 2019 Lexus UX-250h F sport 0-60: 8.0 seconds. It’s a big difference but one is a hybrid. It’s still nice to drive yea but it is not fast lol
I feel like every reviewer should be more critical about a vehicle with this price tag. I don’t think you heard his closing statements at all- you can get more vehicle for same price but without the Lexus branding. And he is 1000% correct with that statement. This car does nothing outstanding but asks for a good chunk of money in return.
Leased a 2011 and ended up buying it. Sold it with 210k miles. I dreamt of a AWD turbo monster rally hatch. Lexus wasted it's lifecycle with virtually no updates minus a few cosmetics. The CVT whine was annoying but the mileage was awesome.
Lexus plays the safe and sane route way too much. Just because you've developed a reliable power that sells relatively well do you just sit and ride it out? Folks knock BMW for being unreliable. There is validity to some of that but BMW take risks. Lexus doesn't. Thats my point.

This dude clearly has no clue of what people want. If you're up for an UX you don't care about how fast it is from 0 to 60. Don't make stupid assumptions. This review is terrible. The guy seems to be too much into himself...
Okay okay we get it already you don't like the fake engine sound. Is there any mention if the interior is comfortable or if the car would make a good Urban commuter?
Interior too small and too slow for an "F-Sport" Lexus. Very little reason to buy this over a new Rav4 hybrid. Lexus needs to improve 0-60 on this to 6-7s.
Anything that does 0-60 in under 9 sec, no one notices the difference. Cars don't need to be that fast. 9 sec is fine. I do agree it's silly to be putting "F-Sport" on the name here. Why? Play to it's strengths, don't have to lie.
James I went from a 5.4 to 9.0 second car. Do I notice the difference? Yes. Do I care? Nope. Why the obsession with speed and big wheels? For me at least I don’t have anywhere to use it. Smaller wheels are more comfortable for congested city driving.
I just got one for my wife. We returned a 2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring, to get a UX. Personally, I would have leased another CX-5 but she wanted something smaller and less tall too, so it was a perfect fit for her wish. But paying 42K, in my opinion, is too much, the only reason I decided on this tiny cross-over was that I got one with a hefty discounted price ( late October 2020 ). I basically leased a UX250h F-Sport basic of around 39,500.00 at 34,000.00 and almost 0% financing. At this price is worth it, never at full MSRP. The car is smooth and feels pretty solid, almost like a Mercedes Benz GLA that we owned before the CX-5. But the trunk is really small for the battery pack located under the trunk floor and rear seats, well, don't put your friends there....they will hate you🤣🤣🤣.
Bought this same car in atomic silver last week. It is very responsive and drives smoothly. Acceleration is ok. Standard safety features at e a huge plus
Which "CVT"? Corolla with non-CVT first gear? Real CVT with belt and variable pulleys? Or typical Prius "Power-Split Device" with no pulleys or belt? Also, NIMH is better. It lasts longer than LION, and if you keep the car over 10 years or 150k, the consumer can replace all 28 modules for $1950. Or buy them on E-Bay for $40 each. Lithium is not consumer-serviceable in the Prius.
Dr. Stan Ovshinsky drove an EV-1 on NIMH 209 miles on a charge. NIMH has enough energy density for consumer needs. My 2005 Prius has 200k and I can replace the modules myself. On a Ford C-Max. the battery pack is $9400. Lithium is fine if you lease a car (most Teslas are leased) but I keep a car 20 years.

I’m a Toyota fan. I like their no-nonsense approach. But every time I watch a review of a Lexus, I’m like, “Ugh! You guys were so close to being really good.”
The CTh is one of the best looking hatchbacks ever. It also got 2 mpg Better then this with the Prius powertrain. This is also a cool looking car. I love the interior.

Shame Lexus followed this stupid trend. The CT200/h is a much better and cheaper choice than this. They still sell it like buns everywhere else in the world and even redesigned it.
I’m a Redline fan but you need to give any car some credit if it does what it should be doing given its size, cost and intended purpose. An RX is much nicer and twice the cost with worse mileage.
I like the UX. Only thing is that visibility could be improved a tad. The style I think is a tad too much. But honestly I couldn’t care less about acceleration. I’d rather get good economy than have the most power.
Sister, against my advice, bought one of these to replace her old Lexus RX300 which she loved. Complains that it's too small and buzzy. Duh, it's a gussied up Corolla. The Lexus styling is growing up (in a good way) and although the cargo capacity isn't SUV sized, at least the load floor is level with the hatch opening, the opening looks pretty big and the rear seats appear to fold flat. And good on Sofyan for showing this clearly. Were it my money, I'd look at VW Golf. I'd take the gamble on long term reliability. Or maybe just get the Corolla hatch and call it a day.
The ux 200 replaced the ct. The ux 250 is AWD. The ct wasn’t. I definitely see this car as a very comfortable and luxurious 2 seater hatchback. Because my back seats are always folded down. Plus it has a huge cargo area.
The reason they had to cap the power at 180 is because the NX300h has the old RAV4 hybrid power train making 190 hp... they can’t have their entry level model surpass the larger suv in terms of power (their mistake for sharing power train components in a $35,000 car that also comes in an $18,000 corolla hatch)
From the front it looked like it might have some size to it. Then you swung around to the side and it looks like a different class of vehicle altogether.
Love the hinest take here. Very refreshing to hear the truth from a reviewer. Its Terribly slow, cvt whine, no cargo space, industries worst user interface, limited to 45mph AWD system, and cheap plastic cladding everywhere. Not up to a luxury car standard in anyway. Terrible vehicle for $42k. With the 2L Turbo it would completely transform this car into something interesting. Shame
Where is the slamming of the door to comment on how solid the chassis feels? The door slam is one of the main reasons that I tune in. Bring Back The Slam !
I don't understand why you think toyota hybrids are laggy? I had a Prius rental and I have a lead foot as well. The gas engine barely had to kick on, only when I was accelerating hard; but other than that, it was quiet.
This car actually makes me angry. Toyota/Lexus needs to stop with this weak engine and crappy transmission bull crap. They need to just go with a 2.0T with their 10-speed auto like what Honda does and call it a day.
Donovan that’s ok. A 10 speed is not needed. 6 speed works just as well. As an example, the Buick Envision with the 9 speed auto gets 20/26 mags. The same as the Mazda CX-9 with the 6 speed auto. I have driven both. The Buick shifted too much. I have driven the Accord with the 10 speed, same thing. Too much hunting for gears.
I think the F in F-Sport stands for Faux or Fake Sport in terms of performance, nice interior though and some interesting design lines from certain angels.
This actually has more front legroom than an NX, more rear legroom than an IS, a trunk with 3 cu. Ft more than an ES and the seats fold flat and the load floor is much more open; I can fit full sheets of drywall in mine! It’s an in-between car with luxury car look & feel. If you are okay with that it’s fantastic. You also can’t get anything that even matches the fuel economy by a long shot. I’m not sure why these reviewers are so pessimistic about this little suv. Lexus never gets any love for what are objectively fantastic vehicles!
In my opinion, most of these CUVs/crossovers/SUVs (anything developed recently that's high off the ground) appear to be rushed in development to cash in on the craze. Unsure what the craze however.
Spot on review. Now I have to translate the "Redline Score" into a "Doug Score" to put it on Demuro's leader board :) BTW. I think everything will come up short after owning a Model 3.
You mentioned a lot of "Engine Noise". What did you expect from a Hybrid? What hybrid have you driven that doesn't make "Engine Noise"? When you accelerate hard, the battery has to transfer energy to make it accelerate. You are driving the hybrid car hard like it's full electric or an ICE.
Yo bro. I'm trying to get a Mazda and shit is expensive. Mazda need to know what Nissan, Kia and Hyundai are doing. Lower their price seriously. In Boston a 2016 used Mazda 3 are still over $16k. Even a civic is cheaper than Mazda in Boston.
@@Kburd-wr6dq I see your point. But problem is. Mazda doesnt sells much. So, that's a problem for Mazda. I love their car but when I see a 2018 Mazda6 is 18k and a 2018 Honda accord is like 15k for the same type of model. I'm getting the Honda. Mazda need to take a loss and start selling their car with a lower price like huyndai and Nissan is doing
Obviously the 328i wasn't trying. Had you been on a curvy, bumpy, slippery road, well that is where the 328i shines. Better steering, breaks, suspension, seats and driving dynamics.
It's intereseting to see how the american car market differs from the brazilian one. Here, most luxury entry crossovers offer 1.4 turbo engines. The UX here comes only in the hybrid version, same 2.0 engine. While it's not as fast as a 1.4 turbo, it does not lag very much behind the competitors here. Also, it's price is actually cheaper than all of the competitors. I live in são paulo, and my city has a vehicle rotation system for every car except for hybrids and electric cars. Also, our road quality is pretty crappy, which means that Lexus cars tend to be more reliable in these rough conditions compared to the more fragile (but more sportier) german competitors. So, I believe this car has actually the best cost-benefit of the luxury crossover market in Brazil. Its interesting (and ironic) that in spite of all this, Lexus of Brazil does not sell as well as in the United States, which has a lot more technologically advanced options and less restrictions in it's car market
Literally everything he thinks is "horrible" or "slow" is okay for 99% of people. This is why he is out of touch, simply because he labels himself a car enthusiast
Not true at all. This car may be an entry level Lexus, but at over $40 grand, we have to let you all know there are FAR better options for the money... including a few vehicles in the Toyota lineup. We'd much rather have a RAV4 Hybrid over this car.
Oh Sofyan..... you gotta get who this is marketed to. Lexus strives to target “old money families”. They want the dad to drive the LX570, momma in the Rx350. Put the son in a IS350 and then the 16 year old daughter is gonna get this. They want a vehicle that is safe, looks cool, RELIABLE, and luxurious. This is perfect for this new driver! They don’t care about 0-60 times, they want knee airbags. They don’t care about the fake noise, they want accident avoiding features.
vr6gls It’s not even that this is overly “boring” per se... It definitely has a face only a mother could love lmao. It’s the performance coupled with looks for me that’s a dealbreaker. Toyota/Lexus is trying waaay too hard with this car and their styling to be something they just never have been - cool.
Car companies are doing to the SUV what they did to sports cars in the 90's - releasing these units that are all-show and no-go, disappointing buyers and making avoid the brand, the segment, and now (hello Uber) driving altogether.
I feel Japanese brands got too cushy and lazy in bettering themselves. The techs are relevant but getting old. The infotainments are outdated compared to even the Koreans. Powertrains are still relevant but haven't really changed since forever. The Nissans(and Infinitis) are virtually the same cars from the early 2000s. The Supra is German. etc etc. Impressive Japanese cars are becoming rare things.
We were shopping this summer and already own an RX which we like so we checked out the UX. I really liked the UX250h until we drove it and we bought a Volvo xc40 instead. The only thing worse than the fake sound pumped in is the sound of the actual engine. The car is so gutless it is embarrassing. It has a truly horrible infotainment system. I cannot imagine being stuck with this as a daily driver. Couldn’t wait to get back to the dealer to end the test drive.

Wow. Much heavier than even the Prius Prime. Waiting for 0-60 test.
Not bad for the first Japanese woman designer and engineer behind the designs of this car she did a good job
Shame Lexus followed this stupid trend. The CT200/h is a much better and cheaper choice than this. They still sell it like buns everywhere else in the world and even redesigned it.
Ngl but a Lexus UX - F would be kinda lit
Another Ravishing review, Keep it up bro.
Exactly. I live in LA anyways. Where am I going in this traffic?! 😆
yup ppl looking for hot hatch should skip this video and buy a golf r or something
So funny.
In Europe we still have the CT, but not the UX200. But we do have the UX250h, but not the AWD lol
Looks like the 2019 Corolla Hatchback and 2019 Rav had a baby. 🙆🏿♀️🤔🙂
That fake engine noise would drive me crazy. I think I would look at something/anything else! Great Review! 🙂
Thanks for the review RR, the CHR is my most hated Toyota and we are going to look at a UX250H F Sport this weekend 👍
Shame
First the Doug Score, Next the Redline Rating, I would if other Automotive enthusiasts on TH-cam are going to give their test vehicles scores.
did doug review this?
scotty says, i`m don`t like a hybrid car, me too, thank you sofyan for this honestly review.
I would love for car manufacturers to make more hybrid, but with real engine noise.
Excited for the review, seen a couple on the road.
The plastic cladding is very cheap looking----pass!
Dwight R All CUVS/SUVs have plastic cladding................... this is a CUV btw
f181234 Yes but this is a Lexus......and its a f sport trim for 42k...doesn’t look sporty in the least
f181234 RAV4 has painted cladding
Agreed!
XXtheJUMPoffXX it’s still plastic and it’s only on the XSE highest trim
You’re the best reviewer bro, thanks for this.
They should have put Toyota rav4 hybrid system, MPG is very similar while more horsepower and faster.
Exactly.
Where is the part where you go over the front seat comfort, dashboard and the various HVAC controls, etc? Just the back seat?
For my money I get Acura RDX
This car actually makes me angry. Toyota/Lexus needs to stop with this weak engine and crappy transmission bull crap.
They need to just go with a 2.0T with their 10-speed auto like what Honda does and call it a day.
Donovan it’s called the NX 200T
Kevin Wright that doesn’t have a 10-speed.
Donovan Japanese don’t care about HP fuel economy is more important
Donovan that’s ok. A 10 speed is not needed. 6 speed works just as well. As an example, the Buick Envision with the 9 speed auto gets 20/26 mags. The same as the Mazda CX-9 with the 6 speed auto. I have driven both. The Buick shifted too much. I have driven the Accord with the 10 speed, same thing. Too much hunting for gears.
This thing looks awful
This.
so awful. yikes!
RIGHT why do people think this looks good
Such a good seller a little over 1,000 per month!
I think the F in F-Sport stands for Faux or Fake Sport in terms of performance, nice interior though and some interesting design lines from certain angels.
Boy was 5’5 then 5’6 now he 5’7 lmao 😂
😂😂😂
You should have tested the Sport Luxury variant rather than F Sport. The Sport Luxury does not have the silly piped-in fake engine noise.
You are an awesome reviewer !
it is one of the most beautiful cars but they need to heighten it just a little bit especially the back window and maybe make it into a wagon
Good for a first car/ 16 year old?
You have spent 80% of the time complaining about lack of power. It's a hybrid!. Your personal car must be a v6 or v8.
Yes!! Finally, a non pickup review I can watch! 😉
What watch is that?
I think it would look so much better without the plastic cladding.
Never short of comments: For that price you can get this car or that car or that car...
42k!! I just picked up a CX-5 Signature for 35k. Way better car in every category.
John Edmond I just got a wrangler sport s for $35k. For the price there are tons of options that are better.
“Thankfully, this is a Lexus “ :hard touch plastic . No Bueno.
It looks tiny. And surprisingly has a lot of power for a tiny 4 banger. I have one as a loner while my gs has some work done.
this doesnt have a tiny 4 banger lol, what are you on ?
This actually has more front legroom than an NX, more rear legroom than an IS, a trunk with 3 cu. Ft more than an ES and the seats fold flat and the load floor is much more open; I can fit full sheets of drywall in mine! It’s an in-between car with luxury car look & feel. If you are okay with that it’s fantastic. You also can’t get anything that even matches the fuel economy by a long shot. I’m not sure why these reviewers are so pessimistic about this little suv. Lexus never gets any love for what are objectively fantastic vehicles!
The CT200 is a fine product. Ppl are so stoopid...Muh SUV's. This look alight though.
I think everything will come up short after owning a Model 3.
it should be called the SUX. Like the CT, its value will plummet 50% to $20k. There are so many better options even from Toyota / Lexus.
The worst ASC I've heard was in the RC200t/RC300. That just sounded like an opera singer with asthma.
I think you meant the "E" for efficiency not "I" Lol. Great review! Thank you.
I would rather get a top of the line Mazda CX-3 or CX-5 or even a Mazda3 and still save some money.
Yo bro. I'm trying to get a Mazda and shit is expensive. Mazda need to know what Nissan, Kia and Hyundai are doing. Lower their price seriously. In Boston a 2016 used Mazda 3 are still over $16k. Even a civic is cheaper than Mazda in Boston.
style 20 that’s good though. They retain their value.
@@Kburd-wr6dq hows that good. Did you see how much car they sells for last month. I wish I could link their sales so you can see how bad.
style 20 if you bought a Mazda 3 for 22k in 2016 and you go to sell it in 2019 for 16k, you didn’t loose that much.
Its interesting (and ironic) that in spite of all this, Lexus of Brazil does not sell as well as in the United States, which has a lot more technologically advanced options and less restrictions in it's car market
i drive a 1.4turbo EA211 engine!! VW/audi is good. will buy this UX tho next!
They should throw the IS250 v6 in the newer one or the turbo 4 n I’d be sold
Imagine a full F model with Toyota's 3.5 V6 engine.
Why the hell don't you show the key, smart key system, anymore?
Great! Another boring wannabe crossover in an already saturated market. 👍🙄
No thanks.
vr6gls It’s not even that this is overly “boring” per se...
This video does not look anything like 1080p60 - looks rather 720p at best...
Shutup jew
Sorry but I absolutely hate that gaping grille.
Bige Lee or just look at the entirety of Subaru. As much as I like those cars they seem all the same all the way from 2000 all the way to today.
What color is the car?
Relax people this is a Japanese woman who designed This SUV fake engine noise LoL but I think I'll go with the NX I love that 4-cylinder Turbo
The new Mazda CX 30 coming out this Fall will be a much better buy
Witsend Cottage it’s probably slower than this
I agree but it will use regular gas and get better milage as well as same build realizability and quality.
Witsend Cottage I dunno about mileage hybrids save way more gas than normal cars
i noticed the entry level Lexus' like this and the IS use "NuLuxe" imitation leather. How does it feel/breathe/compare to geniuine leather?
Great little car!
Yo I love the way this car looks inside and out but that fake noise is wack Lexus.... like wow.
I looked at it when I bought my NX, but went ahead with my first mind.
MsRose00 So you got NX or UX?
The NX. But I went and looked at this one while there.
