I bought one two days ago, a Nori green 250h with Carmel color seats. Couple of additional things learned: the back seat headrests fold forward to more easily allow the seats backs to fold, however, keeping them down also has, to me, a greater benefit by considerably increasing the view out the rear window, for both rear view mirror use and for turning around to look while backing up. 2. Oddly enough I had been considering buying a sports car (either an Audi TT or a Porsche) but ended up buying this car. Now of course the UX won't handle quite as well as either of those two for sure, but its size and seat comfort along with the quality of materials is very sports car-like, and it handles just fine, so for me it's a sports car with a whole lot more room. And it gets fantastic mileage, costs quite a bit less, and will no doubt be considerably more reliable and cheaper to maintain. Plus, for me, its higher (but not too high) seat level means it's a lot easier to get in and out of than any of the typically low sports cars no matter which one you consider. It may seem strange to compare it with the sports car segment but for me the comparison works; and therefore any discussion of it being a too small SUV is neutralized by virtue of it being a quite large sports car! It's also quite a bit quieter to drive than either of the above mentioned, which will make longer trips much more pleasant; I like listening to music and you don't have to play it extra loud in order to override air or road noise. I've owned over 70 cars and I can say that this UX is the closest vehicle I've found to be an all-in-one car as has ever been made. Like Kirk, I too love efficiency, and to get that along with sportiness, luxury, quietness and comfort is a pretty decent package.
I just bought my Lexus UX 200 F Sport two days ago. I am so impressed by the attention to detail and the quality of service from Lexus. At first I was apprehensive about the touch pad but quickly got used to the pad. This is my first luxury car and I will definitely keep in the Lexus family. :)
@neil eastell just eletric is sad:( is eletric only 0-50km . Range 20km but only eletric only work if The battery have 50%+) lexus need a battery life like bmw range 80km is electric 0-100km for now only bmw have long range for hibri
This video is 4 years old but I’m going to comment anyway. This is exactly the review I needed to see! My wife and I are looking to trade our 2016 Rav-4 which is an awesome car, for this. It has $25k miles on it and is certified. Thanks Kirk for an awesome review! Subscribed.
I have the atomic silver and the Carmel color seats. The UX 250 h is a very sharp car, and it handles and rides smoothly. My MPG overall, considering a variety of driving scenarios, is 41.3. There is enough power, but the efficiency and comfort are top features for this addition to the Lexus lineup.
I am in Australia and have had my UX250h for a few months now. It’s a great car, although I do have some reservations about the use of a CVT. I am 187cm/6ft 1.5” tall and have always had problems with rear headroom in cars with a panoramic sunroof. However, the lack of a sunroof in the rear of the UX has allowed the designers to sculpt out the headlining to increase head room. I can sit there quite comfortably. I was amazed when I sat in the rear seat in the showroom. Also you are absolutely correct about the silent transition from EV mode to petrol/gas engine. I actually reconfigured the HUD to display a tachometer so I could see if the engine was on or off. Very good job Lexus.
could you do a video how to reconfigure the HUD to see when engine kicks in or when driving pure electric....save a lot of gas, imho. In my old RX HUD i have not such an option.
the perfect Lexus for me..as a daily driver..compact, luxury, and a hybrid. The new Toyota CH-R that the UX use the same platform, and the new CH-R has a hybrid this year...but it still does not do it for me, like the UX-250h. I love the stand out look, and great interior and awesome lighting.
Great review. So I am really interested in lexus ux and this helped me out, as looking to upgrade from toyota c-hr at some point. Thanks Kirk. Love your reviews, so profound. Great to see another lexus enthusiast. You got another sub :)
We have the upmarket one and it is out of this world FABULOUS. Charges itself....never runs out of electric energy. Ours is the most comfortable amazing looking car.
I really love the Lexus quality and reliability. A simple Toyota is too bland for my tastes, but a Mercedes has horrible reliability these days. Lexus is the PERFECT marriage between superb japanese reliability (Toyota and Honda) and classy interiors like German cars
In the January 2020 consumers reports they listed the UX at the top of their reliability ratings...a 96 out of 100 in the Luxury entry level SUV category!
I have the Lexus UX 250h F Sport model in Switzerland with ALL the options and the four buttons you refer to on the left are the head up display, the 360 degree camera, the ASC and the 4th one is empty. So, you're right. I guess the last one is for something custom made.
That model you driving is actually a base hybrid model which starts around $36,000. The slot of buttons you was wondering are for upgrades. Such as Heated Steering Wheel, (ASC)Active Sound Control, Wiper De-Icer. Those features will have the buttons located there. The Price you mentioned is for Luxury Package model which will basically have everything. Also the first thing you will notice is the 10.3in navigation display screen on luxury packages only standard OR if one was custom built to have it installed.
But the hybrid brakes on the electric generator and comes to a full stop on the pads. The NiMh battery is under the rear seat. The boot has a wheel well partially filled with car stuff and then two trays and the boot floor. Lots of wasted space which could have been used to lower the boot floor. Corolla 1.8 hybrid 68MPG, UX250h 56MPG (UK).
Great review! This is definitely a value driven Lexus… Perhaps in the future, mention a brief on performance… 0 to 60, and braking distance from 60 mph. Thanks!
I have a UX 250h and I think it is important to point out the plasticky quality in the rear doors. It’s all cheap feel plus there’s no rear door storage bin. Non the less it’s a great car. Just for review purposes I think that should be pointed out.
For a compact crossover this is quite typical. I don’t like having soft-touch doors in the back because passengers love to mark up soft materials! The harder the better for me, it takes abuse much better than soft-touch materials
The 4 buttons from left to right are: 1) Active Sound Control 2) Head Up Display 3) Surround View Camera (As of 2021 still not available in the US) 4) 120v AC outlet switch (also not available in the US as of 2021)
Excellent and informative video. Glad you mentioned the seats are bigger than the larger NX - I found this to be true. Could someone order from you and have it shipped to another dealership?
Thanks for watching. You could order a car through me - but we can't ship to other dealers. I can deliver a car to your driveway, or you could fly in and drive back to your home.
So I am actually looking at one of these. How does it do on ice and snow? I live on a bit of a hill. I am wondering if it'll have enough power to get up and into my driveway.
The IS300h also has a really nice hybrid system, almost imperceptible transition from EV->ICE, super smooth, good power and great fuel economy! Also way more fun to drive than the UX, just a shame they don't sell it in the US. They definitely messed up a bit though with the new ES300h, too under-powered, not sure why it's so slow when the RAV4 has almost the same hybrid setup and is much faster, I mean how can an SUV be faster than a sedan with the same propulsion system... They should've beefed up the electric motor there just like they've done for the new highlander.
My 2019 ES300h NOT "underpowered", electric motor gives INSTANT acceleration (former 2017 ES350 had annoying lag), DEFINITELY fast enough in normal or Sport mode for quick freeway merge/passing, slower in Eco. LOVE THE CAR, nothing like a Lexus/Toyota hybrid (I've had 2). That's my experience after 3,000 miles (40-60 freeway), and I'm sticking with it!
Tha will be a forever problem because they want to be reliable and drive smoorth won’t let you for faster is a lexus thing:D 2020 rx450h 0-100 take 8 sec wow that slow even rav4 hibri got faster maybe because lexus is for old people
Great review! Does the NX have the thigh extension for driver /passenger? If not, which Japanese or Korean all-wheel drive small suv /crossovers offer that feature? Thanks in advance!
@neil eastell I drive Lexus myself and it is one of the rarer models so we talked about it some dropped it off for repairs and they gave me the UX which at the time literally just came out. I guess they wanted my input (or most likely my money lol, they almost sold me on it)
@neil eastell but they let me drive most of the cool stuff and except for the super exotics (but they did let me drive the (I believe it's called) the RC or RF, something like that. Go to one of your dealers and establish a good relationship with one of the people who your maintenance/repairs or the salesman if your buying a car and when you come back they'll hook you up. A buddy of mine dropped off a Ford expedition and was given a mustang until repairs are done.
This dude sounds sponsored by Lexus. He’s the first reviewer who’s praising the touchpad. Everybody else is saying it’s the worst system in a car.🤦🏻♂️
Agree. He also, never mentioned hard plastic back doors and trunk capacity. Other reviewers absolutely hate the touchpad and not impressed with such a small trunk.
I was between BMW X5 hibri and lexus rx450h and I choose bmw because lexus don’t have performer , the touch pad the clock also the battery range make me choose bmw . Why? BMW range 80km , Can go eletric 0-100km in hibri mode and a lot faster. Lexus? Ranger 20km can go eletric 0-50km in hibri mode.
When my daughter bought her 2020 UX200, I was eyeing the 2020 NXHybrid. At the time, I felt this is the perfect ride, offering realistic gas mileage, just the right amount of handling, class and luxury, without causing an irrevocable damage to the life savings. And if you're seeking , "Hey look at me!" value, well, it's off the charts in that area.
The triple beams gotta have and I can appreciate the lit up vent lighting love itttttt in my hybrid hs250 its dull ..are those wheels black chrome sweet finish
I test drove the non hybrid ux and it's breaks were also quiete sensitive It was quiete a different experience compare to my rx450h In many ways I still prefer my 2010 rx But the ux is also cool
You asked about the options for those empty buttons. I wish, every day, that they had placed the gas release button and the back hatch open button THERE, not where I can't see them. EVERY day I hate that! I will never understand that placement! Also, it's a real loss that the standard UX hybrid doesn't have the fog lights (which would include the turn-illumination lights, the more important issue). Other than that, I love my UX 250h!
@@shakurbcn89 Look in front of your left knee, under the edge of what's visible. It's next to the gas release button. You have to hold it in until it beeps (which is irritating).
One important feature missing from this vehicle, and all of my local dealer stock, is the driver side seat position memory button...deal killer for a two driver family. Should be standard equipment, but is only available with the $4k "luxury" option, that dealers do not carry.
Would this be a reliable car for a long daily commute? I’m doing close to 180 miles a day. I wanted the Tesla model 3 for so long, but I’m afraid the long range battery won’t be enough for my daily commute? I can definitely charge at home but I’m afraid I would have replace battery due to my daily commute. I like this hybrid a lot and I’m not big on Lexus but I like this one.
There is more option. For hibri bmw porche honda:D only bad thing about lexus hibri is battery to small is only eletric 0-50km and range 20km or less do other are 40km and is eletris 0-100km Lexus need. To put bigger battery
For everyone who has driven a UX specifically the Hybrid version, would u say due to it's power it would make passing or merging on the highway dangerous?
No, although it’s a pinch slow while accelerating I never felt like I’m in a dangerous spot, or too slow in moving highway traffic. (I have a 2020 250h)
Hiya, Any chance of having the U.S. version of the UX have the Mark Levinson stereo system, with the NAV system, available? Also, is having the side mirror folding in when the engine is turned off. Will that be an option only for the F - Sport ? Thank you for the assist.. Kewl videos..... Stay safe..
I'm just starting to think about my next vehicle and so far haven't found one that I'd trade my Venza for. I've heard Venza is coming back 2021... maybe worth the wait?
Nikki Peters I traded my 2013 Venza for a 2013 4runner limited. Full time 4WD n mods n great off-roader. I do miss my Venza but the 4Runner is better in every aspect.
I don't see the interior space being an issue for a family with two kids because their kids so they don't take up much space. I guess it'd be a good reference to give the specific dimensions of the interior space that way anyone interested has a better point of reference to be able to compare it. Good review overall though, much appreciated.
@@KirkKreifels also I think the Interieur quality is superior. The Germans are becoming cheaper and cheaper.. you can find plastics in a mercedes that are used in a dacia for example.. thats crazy
The spindle grille actually ruins lexus design. The car is good shape only falls apart when you get to the front. Lexus have not find a way of making the spindle grille tasteful. Even the LC500 can be more nicer without the spindle grille. My point is spindle grille does not add to the beauty of the car rather it takes away
I hear at least the CH-R chief designer was a woman....very cool if true! So if custom order required to get triple beam headlights (adaptive?), can Levinson stereo be ordered also?? Thx for all you do my friend!
Levinson is not available on the UX. However if you get the navigation package, it comes with a better sound system and more speakers. Chief for the UX was chika kako.
Except that this is a Lexus and NOT a Honda. Still missing your point? Are you asking if a woman designed the UX?? Yes, Chika Kako did design this!! I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing given what Mary Barra has done to GM.......
does it have sequential turn lights like our cheap VW´s ? Yeah trunk is to small....who need more better go with the new Corolla 2.0ltr Hybrid (same powertrain) in the station wagon ! Very popular here in europe !
@Daniel Hernandez ...hm but for the Mustangs its ok, or Audi ? Its interesting, in germany the Mustangs sequential were´nt compliant but the AUdi´s are ....shit carlobby on each side :-) i saw today a newer RX with sequential turn lights; was good looking.
Are you honest in your review. Front cabin and everything is perfect but rear seat are completely failure due to leg room. Give me a break, Lexus should have given little more space
@@KirkKreifels i had the ct200h and i loved it. i might switch to this UX250h since it is very similar to the CT200h. Is the backing camera standard on this?
Why does Lexus make it so hard to find the triple beam LEDs? I' ve looked at the RX and NX and its hard to find. They seem to not focus on that important feature that we all need as we get older: Better Headlights!! Even Tesla offers them as standard on all their offerings. The other thing, also related to safety, is that Lexus offers different tires on the same vehicle, typically Michelin and Yokohama and the the Yokahamas suck.
Lexus headlights are very good though. The triple beam is only slightly better but much more expensive. IHSS rates the regular lights an "B" while triple beam gets "A"

@@solidsnake5614 it's very smooth and refined
Although I felt the seats a bit hard for a Lexus
@@solidsnake5614 sorry I don't understand Arabi if that is what you typed out
I ordered mine in atomic silver with caramel interior. Waiting for delivery.
Loving mine!!!
My dad is thinking of getting this in 2021 only because the NX is so outdated for 2021 compared to the UX and the RX is too big
Good points!
Also own a ux 250h... Just wondering... Where is the back hatch button? (for real!) haha
@@shakurbcn89 Look in front of your left knee, under the edge of what's visible. It's next to the gas release button. You have to hold it in until it beeps (which is irritating).
I'm confused, do you love the car?
Hi Kirk, at 18:45 you say that ES300h gets better MPG, could you elaborate a bit more? Even at highway speeds?
ES is rated at 44 mpg combined which is 4 mpg more than the UX hybrid
One important feature missing from this vehicle, and all of my local dealer stock, is the driver side seat position memory button...deal killer for a two driver family. Should be standard equipment, but is only available with the $4k "luxury" option, that dealers do not carry.
Yep. I could see this being very important for many.
Ed D. So true! No luxury package UX’s in my town either
This is a phenomenal vehicle. Give it a try!
There is more option. For hibri bmw porche honda:D only bad thing about lexus hibri is battery to small is only eletric 0-50km and range 20km or less do other are 40km and is eletris 0-100km
Lexus need.
Does ux (canada) come with factory tinted rear windows?
Hiya, Any chance of having the U.S. version of the UX have the Mark Levinson stereo system, with the NAV system, available? Also, is having the side mirror folding in when the engine is turned off. Will that be an option only for the F - Sport ? Thank you for the assist.. Kewl videos..... Stay safe..
no mark lev for USA models. Folding mirrors on the UX are standard on the Luxury package including the F Sport Luxury
@@KirkKreifels Hiya Kirk, Thank You for the assist..
Great review. However why no 2.5 instead of 2.0. RAV4 is faster and faster
And also bigger and heavier, different segments
Lord Commander Manny plug in hybrid UX????
Run flat tires are a nightmare tires. My co-worker replaced them 2x this year already. Can the run flat be replaced with conventional tires?
Yes you can put regular tires on.
Theres no space for a spare in the back. Just be aware.
Now they bring the electric version next year in europe , the UX300e ! But what about a Plug In Version....perhaps its to small for that :-(
Does it still have space for a spare tire?
2:42 dont forget us aussies!!!!
Still wouldnt trade my Venza over this. I love my Venza and it’s the v6 xle FWD(I don’t need awd)
What have you heard about Lexus introducing a Plug-in Hybrid? Especially on the RX 450h platform.
RX will eventually. We could see it on the NX as soon as next year.
Lexus need to put bigger battery since the range is less then 20km and speed 0-100km and not 50km
I don't see the interior space being an issue for a family with two kids because their kids so they don't take up much space. I guess it'd be a good reference to give the specific dimensions of the interior space that way anyone interested has a better point of reference to be able to compare it. Good review overall though, much appreciated.
Best car for daily drive and sporty look :D
Is the suspension more comfortable than that on the german rivals ( x1,gla, q3) ?
I would say comparable. Interior is arguably the most comfortable.
@@KirkKreifels also I think the Interieur quality is superior. The Germans are becoming cheaper and cheaper.. you can find plastics in a mercedes that are used in a dacia for example.. thats crazy
Is "voice commanding" linked to navigation?
Yes but i live in Europe as a Canadian and it only understands British English so I use the German.
Is amazing car ? Because I have a same car and same colour
The spindle grille actually ruins lexus design. The car is good shape only falls apart when you get to the front. Lexus have not find a way of making the spindle grille tasteful. Even the LC500 can be more nicer without the spindle grille. My point is spindle grille does not add to the beauty of the car rather it takes away
sequential turn lights would be nice !
Alex NutCasio my bad!! I meant the Toyota equivalent not the Honda LOL
@@lexusambassador Its all good. CH-R is Honda's equivalent of the Lexus UX.
Just wondering which trim will have power folding mirror?
Custom order or luxury package
@@KirkKreifels Does F sport comes with Luxury Package?
10:24 I'd say missile launch or maybe a warp drive button would be nice.
What color is this lexus? Titanium?
In america it's called atomic silver
does it have sequential turn lights like our cheap VW´s ? Yeah trunk is to small....who need more better go with the new Corolla 2.0ltr Hybrid (same powertrain) in the station wagon ! Very popular here in europe !
Wish we had that wagon Corolla
@Daniel Hernandez ...hm but for the Mustangs its ok, or Audi ? Its interesting, in germany the Mustangs sequential were´nt compliant but the AUdi´s are ....shit carlobby on each side :-) i saw today a newer RX with sequential turn lights; was good looking.
I can’t find one of these in stock anywhere close. 😂
Yeah #covid
Does this car drive well on snow?
Yes
Its a small toyota venza why is it 7k more?
Are you honest in your review. Front cabin and everything is perfect but rear seat are completely failure due to leg room. Give me a break, Lexus should have given little more space
is this the latest version of the previous CT200h?
Nope. But it sort of replaces the CT
@@KirkKreifels i had the ct200h and i loved it. i might switch to this UX250h since it is very similar to the CT200h. Is the backing camera standard on this?
Thanks!
Thanks Paul!
Is this lexus a user xperience?
does it have auto break/hold feature?
Yes
10:18 I have ASC button on my 2019 UX
Why does Lexus make it so hard to find the triple beam LEDs? I' ve looked at the RX and NX and its hard to find. They seem to not focus on that important feature that we all need as we get older: Better Headlights!! Even Tesla offers them as standard on all their offerings. The other thing, also related to safety, is that Lexus offers different tires on the same vehicle, typically Michelin and Yokohama and the the Yokahamas suck.
Bridgestone as well. Triples are more common on RX than NX.
No spare or even room for one.
Awful car. Traded mine after 3 mos
@@davevolz6138 For what?
Lexus headlights are very good though. The triple beam is only slightly better but much more expensive. IHSS rates the regular lights an "B" while triple beam gets "A"
Needed a trunk review
Trunk is tiny...only can recommend for 2 people on a long trip...3 is possible since you can fold down one side of the rear seats
Gas tank is a bit small.
Great car!!
