      @@xz9376 I picked one up in January 2019. I have the UX250H as well. I love it. Will never go back to a non hybrid vehicle. The KM's I drive every day haven't changed but my gas costs are less than half. The most its ever cost me to fill up is about $32 CAN. I'm getting between 6.0 and 6.2 litres per 100 km. My IS250 was close to $70 to fill and my mileage was around 11.5 litres per hundred km's.

    We have a 2019 UX that is one year old with 12k miles. Love it. Solid. Quiet. Comfortable. Beautiful interior. Ride great. In eco mode we get 42 hwy mpg!! And ours is not the hybrid! My son is 6’2” and fits/drives it comfortably, however, if you are taller, I’d upgrade to the NX or RX. We’ve had two dealer servicings at no charge. Adequate horsepower. You don’t buy this car if you are Ricky-racer. $40k out the door, and with every visit to the dealer, we are treated like it’s a $125k car! Free chow, free soft drinks, free wi-fi, lounge chairs, big screen tv and everyone is super friendly.

      Chicks…. lol. You’re definitely the target demographic. Wowed by lounge couches and free WiFi! 😂. Truly a driver. Anyways good that you’re happy with it, they do indeed try to woo you at Lexus. Sent a taxi for me and gave me their branded Lexus water. Shmucky but good salesmanship.

    “hatchback” is such a dirty word that manufacturers will go insane lengths to market them as “crossovers”

      Samuel Fernandes it’s the consumers not the manufacturers

    • @domdrty
      @domdrty 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think manufacturers have an indirect hand through reviewers. With the exception of Savage Geese, all car reviewers on youtube say the same thing about new cars. They never address poor designs and use terms like upscale, and luxury feel when talking about non-luxury vehicles. As a result I've seen former luxury car owners buy an Accord or Camry and then complain online about creaks, rattles, and other quality issues.
      I'm sure there is a lot of that car reviewers also use subtle talk about SUVs/trucks since manufacturers have such a huge profit margin compared to cars.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ... Yes, hatchback is so plebian and for the peasants and Lexus is above that...hatchback, much like wagon, is a dirty word. But, all of these 'CUVs' are actually puffed up wagons, but marketing/pr says otherwise

      @@phungpei2277 Thanks so much for your response. I inadvertently directed my question to you rather than Aidan which I have corrected. In any event, I really like Lexus models and was looking to purchase a hybrid this year but the lack of standard options in some models versus the cost is a bit outrageous. I actually test drove the Mazda CX-5 but the ride wasn't as smooth as my old Lexus and it doesn't come in a hybrid. I haven't bought a vehicle in over 10 years and really feel stuck this year as to what I should buy. Ah, well. Perhaps, Lexus will change the seats of the 2021 Lexus NX hybrid to be more comfortable but I'm going to need something sooner than that.

    I put considerable time in a family member's 2020 UX 200. With only 1k on the odo I got 33mpg with expected decent acceleration, especially from 0-30, where I need it most. The interior is absolutely stunning and great to the touch. This reviewer complains about the space. This was never meat to be a people or cargo hauler, other than two people and groceries or a couple sets of golf clubs. Lexus offers bigger models to satisfy people with SUV (not a CUV). I LOVE this vehicle as a daily driver/commuter/cross country hauler for two. The price in the low 30s make it quite affordable for many.

    We've had our UX for a little over a year now, and 16k miles. Is it fast? No. Is the back seat small? Yes. Is the design weird? Yes. But is it comfortable, affordable, reliable, smooth, etc? Absolutely. We actually love where the volume/tune knobs are, and now in our other vehicles, it's an adjustment when we reach down near the armrest and remember the controls aren't there. The Lexus dealer/service experience can't be matched. We feel this is a long-term car for us, and we traded in a 2015 GTI for it. We don't miss that at all. Of course it's slower than the GTI, but we gained a lot of luxury features, an interior that will hold up better, higher resale value, and a much smoother car.

    I honestly would prefer if CVT cars did away with the fake shifts. I guess I'm an engineering purist, I hate anything fake (especially when it sacrifices performance). I feel like saying it "sounds bad" without fake shifts is just a perception issue, it's just what we're used to. At the end of the day engines are just big noisy controlled explosions, what it sounds like is something we should get used to not something we should actively try to change while sacrificing fuel economy/performance. The fact is that when we allow the CVT to act as it was designed, it gives us better fuel economy. Why throw that away for "the right sound"?

    I always appreciate the lengths you go to in your review. But in this case, I think you’re reviewing this as if it cost TWICE as much as it does. No one will be deciding between this and a Porsche Macan. 99.9% of the buyers of this car are probably young people JUST barely bumping up from a Toyota and they want the Lexus badge and the premium feel. And the hybrid will be a great choice with higher system hp and better mpg all at once.

    My wife and I just purchased a new Tuscan thanks to your videos and "real", unadulterated, no fake-face, no BS reviews. Regarding this Lexus; it's interesting you noted the suspension because the 2019 Rav4 we tested (I know not a Lexus but same gens) felt harsh on sharp impacts, I think this might be a Toyota thing because from the Prius to the Camry from year to year, I have always thought Toyota suspension just rides harsh. Hey Geese, wanted to chime in and say great review. I especially appreciate the way you carefully navigated the fact that this car's design was inspired by a female engineer. As an engineer myself, I see a lot of antipathy towards the few females in my profession, and it really grinds my gears. As you said, I think it's good to have a diversity of perspectives in any field. Car design is no different.
    Honestly, after watching this video, I expected to see a bunch of sexist horseshit in the comments section about how women can't design cars. I was encouraged that you didn't say anything of that sort. Even if a lot of us enthusiasts wouldn't ever buy a car like this, I'm sure there are plenty of people who will like it for exactly the reasons enthusiasts might not. I hope to see more female-designed vehicles in the future. There could be some really great, fresh new ideas for car design to come from that.
    Great job, as always.

      Same powertrain for fuel economy and reliability. People would buy this for size, reliability, and fuel economy. The Corolla Hatchback is minute in size compared to the UX and a cheaper Toyota SUV you lose the luxury comfort, fuel economy, and subcompact size (for parking spaces/living in the city). Ever seen a Rav4 or 4Runner struggle in a parking garage or parallel park that most soccer Mom's suck at. It's hilariously sad.

    As for the car - I care not for 0 to 60 times, inspired handling nor Nurburgring stickers. All I want is a comfortable and reliable car which gets me from A to B. In that case the UX might be aimed at me so I like it (obviously not the sport spec!)

    Wife drives 2021 UX from new, and it has been a solid car not one problem just dealer service. Yes it's smaller but safety is top notch on testing results.The smaller car is what she wanted, this however makes it a great urban machine getting in and out of parking and running around the city and it's just a little taller for drivers view. I don't drive it often but when I do it takes no time to feel comfortable and appreciate the lexus luxury and ease of drive experience. Fuel up time is not painful. I have to say It is easy to live with. I would recommend a set of snow/ice tires if you live in a snowy area so you can make it to the ski hill on the weekend.

    I think Toyota/Lexus has gotten a little too daring with styling, but that sort of bold design works on smaller vehicles. The UX looks more interesting inside and out than most of the competition, and aside from the grill, I think it’s quite a bit more reserved than some of the newer entries. There’s a decent value proposition, though I think a $30,000 base would be more in line with what you’re getting. Otherwise, I dig it for a versatile, reliable urban and suburban runabout.

    Look at that engine efficiency, staying at peak RPM power for as long as you ask of it, never having to switch gears and losing energy outside ideal revs. You don't get max horsepower for a brief moment before running out of cog, you get it all the time. That's beautiful engineering.

    You have the best Cinematography out there! I need to be your apprentice ;)
    Since I'm dedicated to covering Lexus, I'll try to fill in the gaps.
    1) F Sport UX can also have Black interior other than the Circuit Red
    2) Radio buttons could have been slapped onto the dash, but they didn't want to over-clutter it and forfeit the clean look. Instead they put the radio controls where the drivers hand will be the majority of the time. It takes some time to get used to, but literally, the radio controls are always in your hand whether you have both hand on the steering wheel or one hand on the arm rest. Remember, the car is designed for 25-40 year olds who "listen" to music all the time, so they wanted the drive to have audio control in every situation.
    3) 2) Getting in and out of the back is difficult for me being 6'1. Rear doors are small. Once inside, it's not bad for such a small vehicle. You have to remember that this car replaces the CT 200h, which has the same or less rear leg room.
    4) Load floor is okay for the rear hatch. I wish it had a lower access point but it's not a deal breaker for 99%
    5) Why would you buy the Lexus over the Toyota brothers? Quieter, better re-sale, built in Japan (the UX is anyways), HYBRID version with AWD...That's the biggest reason!
    6) No Fake Exhaust tips BUT it still looks cheap. Even in the Hybrid, they didn't even try to hide it.
    7) Steering and Brakes are great! Your takes on them are spot on.
    8) Suspension is no GX 460 and something I've become to be accustomed to with the NX models. It can be a bit harsh.
    9) Engine sound isn't good. Probably the most cringy thing about this car.
    10) Paddle shifters are sadly the only way get the traditional auto shifting simulation. Mashing the gas holds at redline :( It is a CVT afterall.
    11) Overall Styling I think is good, not great. The front end is really nice IMO and so are the rear taillights. The ugliest part is the rear fender panel from behind the rear doors to the hatch is just not well-executed.

    • @JJ_ExMachina
      @JJ_ExMachina 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's the thing about Lexus engine tech, the tolerances are so tight anything thicker and it would reduce fuel economy and NOT improve wear characteristics. I worked as a technician for Lexus in the early to mid 2000s, and I can tell you that the way they build their engines is like nothing else. The gap between the main bearing journals on the crank shaft is so precise, that conventional bearing sleeves are NOT used. Instead they use the film strength of the high pressure oil to produce a liquid bearing. Basically, if you don't use full synthetic, in the proper weight... it causes premature engine wear. I have seen Lexus engines with over 300k miles on them, and the main bearings were still within factory tolerances.

    • @cyrilmatthew2995

      @@JJ_ExMachina Oh !!! thanks for throwing some light and its my pleasure to talk to a real technician. Jap built one of the most reliable engines and we all know toyotas and lexuses crossing 3 milllion miles.
      Since the engine is fairly new, i was just curious to know regarding its reliability. For instance, the 2.4l DOHC gas and 1.4 diesel (no sold in america) with engine oil burining issues.
      If you don't mind canyou elaborate on this "Instead they use the film strength of the high pressure oil to produce a liquid bearing", i didn't get the clear picture there

    • @JJ_ExMachina
      @JJ_ExMachina 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@cyrilmatthew2995 .... Well even if Lexus is technically part of Toyota, the way they are treated is actually by the company is pretty different. Like for example, all of the engines that go in to a Lexus is cat scanned before being put into the vehicles... This helps reduce the number of "bad" engines.
      OK now as far as the main bearings go on the crank. The engines used in Lexus vehicles have NO bearing sleeves or bushings, on the crankshaft. Everything is built to extremely tight tolerances. The surfaces are heat treated and hardened. Lexus utilizes high oil pressure to create a liquid bearing, instead of relying on plain metal bushings. That's the reason for the 0w16... actually they have been using 0 weights oils in their engines since the mid 2000s... SO it really is NOT anything new.
      The "liquid bearing" is basically a thin layer of oil that is under pressure. And since a liquid is not considered "compressible" the crankshaft is suspended and does NOT rub on the main journals. SO instead of relying on metal to metal contact, Lexus uses oil for its bearings.

    • @cyrilmatthew2995
      @cyrilmatthew2995 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JJ_ExMachina ok... i didn't know about it until now... So the oil pump must be working in higher PSI than other cars ryt?

    • @JJ_ExMachina
      @JJ_ExMachina 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cyrilmatthew2995 ... Oh no worries about not knowing how a certain company handles their engine tech. I personally would not have even cared to know, now the specifics of the Lexus engine tech. BUT I was sent to what they call Lexus College, in Atlanta, GA. It's not really about running higher oil pressures, it is about the way the oil is handled. SO normally the pressurized oil pushed throughout the engine through small passageways. The difference is that Lexus uses multiple stages for oil to build pressure where higher pressures are needed. SO think of it like a garden hose. When you turn on the water, with the hose just wide open, the water sort of just flows out. BUT put your thumb over the opening, the water sprays out with some serious force. I mean that is a very simplified way of explaining how it works, but I think it explains it in a way that makes the most sense. Of course depending on the engine, there are high pressure cam driven oil pumps, to do some of the needed work. Most of the high pressure oil pumps are for the VVT system, but depending on the engine, it can use that higher pressure to do other things, like supplying pressurized oil to other parts of the engine.
