      No service for me with Bell, none at the ice cream place in town either. Driving back my google maps didn't kick in until I got to Vienna on Hwy 19.

      There now watching this video....think it varies as to where in park though. On Bell.

    The water was great yesterday and the beach has so much room. But the sand flies or deer flies or whatever they are were brutal. As bad as Beachway Park beach in Burlington.

    We had the same experience there with muddy flooded sites! We love it for the beach, trails, and close to home for us! There is always a lot of clean up when we get home from port Burwell.

    We were there about the same time last year, the park was hit by so much rain just before we arrived and it was muddy! Definitely a favorite park of ours especially for the beach. We return every year.

    Another great review. We live in Kent County and we are an hour from the Pinery and 45 min from Rondeau. So those are our go to quick trip parks. When our kids were young we always camped at Port Burwell because of the beach. Back then they groomed the beach every morning. Have not been there in years. This brought back great memories for me (never experienced all that mud though... 12 😀)

    Spent a week there, I would say a 5. The best thing besides the beach was the sub. Sorry you didn’t get a chance to go on the tour. The inside was mind blowing. Don’t know how any one could spend any time in it. Excellent review. Cheers 🍻

    Not surprised with your rating at all! We find Port Burwell is best for long weekends like Thanksgiving. We did a full week last summer and we were bored, not many bike or hiking trails. Although our dogs didn't mind the beach & the water is cleaner than Long Point a week is too long for Port Burwell. We did just as you guys mentioned we biked into town due to the lack of trails. Site 86 at Alzora is the one we book all the time. You are right by the gatehouse but overall good site just shady. Thanks for the honest reviews once again.

    Thanks for another great review. We have never been there so it was good to see some sites and maybe pick a dry time to go. We are looking forward to your review of Turkey Point as we were there the same time as you, but your were out when came across your site riding around the campground. Noticed your sign.

      Awesome you are doing all same camp grounds as we did this year. We were at Port Burwell from end of June until July 18th. We loved the park staff so friendly. Our site 220 wasn't too bad with all the rain we had. Now we're at Turkey point. We have been here since July 19th. (We leave this Monday. Next were on our way to Long point until Labour day. Safe travels 😊

    Too bad about the weather! The Ravine Creek Trail is a cute little hike when it’s dry. Glad you got to utilize the beach, though! We head there in a few weeks, hoping for better weather and drainage at our site! 🤞

    Looks like a nice campground, too bad about the weather. This summer seems to have a lot of rain this year, but you make the best of what you get. Good job.

    Just returned from a week camping at Port Burwell, first time there. I totally agree with your review. Beach was great but a negative in our opinion was driving to the beach. It's a short drive but we didn't know that until we got there. I do recommend the sub tour and even the Naval museum. I believe it's best to book ahead for the sub, but we managed to walk up and get a tour on a week day. My kids loved the park, any park with a play structure is a 10 for them. Plus there were a lot of children. The play field was the busiest I have ever seen in a Provincial Park.

      @CampingwiththeColes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sub was closed due to Covid when we were there. We'll have to go back and do a tour. We also need to go back and give the park another try since it was so wet and muddy when we were there. Sounds like you had a good time. Happy camping!

    I watched your video last night and decided to go spend the day at the beach today. It was a nice beach for sure, but the flies today were eating me alive. I enjoyed the park though.
    Thanks for sharing your experiences!!!

    A very generous score considering it didn't provide much in the way of hiking, biking and you had to move sites on three occasions. I was thinking you were going to get to 13 "Mud" dings.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were tying to score it fairly and not let our poor experiences there taint it for others. Our experience was a 1 or a 2 but we could see that if we went there in nice weather we would have enjoyed it and a 6 seemed appropriate to us. Happy camping!

  • @PatlLawson
    @PatlLawson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s too bad you had such a wet time! We did too, just last week. Many sites were a mess of ruts. It happened to us as well last year, in fact even the beach was closed due to parking lots flooded. And it was July! I’m stymied as to why the drainage is so poor. Especially as the campground is at a higher elevation than the lake. Maybe on clay? Agreed, this park is all about the beach. If conditions have been wet I recommend checking with the park beforehand to make sure the beach is accessible. We were able to get a night’s credit because of the closure.

    I was actually there the same weekend as you guys! I saw your sign when driving through the campground. Our site was on the other side of the comfort station and was also unbelievably muddy. The beach was lovely but not my favourite park…

    Another Great Review. I was surprised with the 6 rating, I thought it would have been more of a 5. It was great meeting you both and enjoying the times around the fire. Hopefully we can do it again sometime.

      Thanks Scott. We couldn't rate the park because of the bad weather so we were glad we stuck around to enjoy the nice weather and have a more positive outlook. Thanks again for having us over at your fire that first night, we needed that. Say hi to El for us. Happy camping!

    Great video as usual. Looks similar to long point which we're going this coming weekend. Also was curious as to have you ever thought about making RV decals so your subscribers can purchase them and put them on their RV. That way you can spot your subscribers on the road or even the campground. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to your next video.

      Thanks Manny. We actually have our channel logo on stickers and fridge magnets. We give them out to people we meet at the parks. Maybe down the road we'll see about offering them to be ordered online. If you see us out there, don't hesitate to chat with us and get a sticker and/or magnet.

    Awe Man , Too bad it was a Muddy Mosquito filled week, It Happens eh , well at least you got out , Great call for your fire nite neighbours, we`ve been out a few times this year and noticed a lot of new campers that don't say Hi when walking by , Camp etiquette has dropped for sure , Enjoy the rest of the Summer Kids .

  • @alisonlee6800

    Three words: Request Refund Form. If you would like a little compensation for the mud that was your site I would fill out the form found on the Ontario Parks website. Also Ontario Parks should start commissioning you OR Ontario tourism to make these videos. They are an invaluable resource four camper whether new to the scene or a veteran. Based on the campsite alone I would have not given the park a Six that was a very generous score. As for the rain I know Lake Erie has been experiencing a lot this year at Rockpoint in Selkirk they’ve actually had to close the park due to flooding. Later on Rockpoint made closures on selective sites due to the rain looking at your site they should have done the same! :P Thank you for persevering and making the video

      @CampingwiththeColes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've never heard of the Request Refund Form. Thanks for the tip. We told staff at the main gate that they should close site 208. As soon as I cancelled the next 3 days of site 208, I saw that it was available again for reservation and it was snatched up fast. The next day new people moved onto the site and stayed for two nights. We struggled on the rating for the park because we didn't want our awful experience to taint the park for others who love the park and have always experienced it in beautiful weather.

    Thanks for the heads up as im taking my 11 year old and 7 yr old boys. We are staying for 4 nights. They are so looking forward to this spot as they have a beach. As they were disappointed about Ferris Provincial Park but we made the best out of it because it lacked the beach. Just wondering how the firewood was from there?

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your kids are going to love the beach. Unfortunately I can't tell you about the firewood because we always bring skid wood with us for the campfires. That way we're guaranteed to have good fires. Ontario Parks wood is notorious for being wet and difficult to burn. You never know what your going to get with that wood. Happy camping!

    I noticed an aerial shot in your video, did you use a drone? I have a site booked at the end of September and would like to bring mine, what permission do you need to be able to fly it in the park.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's against the law to take off or land an aircraft in a provincial park. A drone of any size is considered an aircraft. I have a drone pilots licence and my drone is registered. I stand off park property and take off and land the drone off park property and have my wife or someone else as a spotter to keep a visual line of site on it while I'm looking down at the controller.
      I've seen many other people illegally fly drones in provincial parks and post the video on TH-cam. They get amazing views but are posting evidence of themselves breaking the law.
      You may be able to get permission to fly in a provincial park from the park superintendent, but from what I understand they aren't keen on it and they require at least a million dollar liability insurance specific to the drone.
      You won't see drone video in a lot of the parks we got to because the layout of the park isn't conducive to getting usable video from off park property.
      At Port Burwell I stood in a parking lot near the river off park property.

  • @jgehl1
    @jgehl1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you find the nude beach down at the last parking lot away down the beach ?

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately we did. We were trying to find the end of the park property so I could legally fly my drone (off park property) when we came across some guys standing at the waters edge getting a tan where most people don't get a tan. We didn't think the people there would appreciate me putting up my flying camera. We ended up finding another location, far away, to fly the drone.

    are there any dog free and kid free places??

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  ปีที่แล้ว

      There aren't any provincial parks that are kid free or dog free. To find that you'll have to check with private campgrounds. Unfortunately we don't know anything about private campgrounds. Good luck.
