    I'm a bit late watching this week's video! 🤣 I was happy to see the "Alkmaar" sign - my sister and her family are visiting the Netherlands later in the year. They are doing a "trace your roots" kind of tour since her and my ancestors are originally from Deventer (±1680's), and on their tour they couldn't resist going to the legendary cheese market there. Gerben - I just have to take my hat off to you. I can imagine how trapped you must have felt when going through those troubles. I know exactly how fortunate you are to have had someone to love and support you in that time.
    I agree it is a whole bunch of money to refit the boat, but the result is impeccable. I would say you got a whole lot of value in that deal.
    Lots of love to you all.

    • @FeeltheBreeze
      @FeeltheBreeze  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha Henk, you are never to late ;) Deventer is near where my parents parttime live and going to the cheese market in Gouda is absolutely a must do. Thanks for your nice compliments, without Rianne I wasn't here anymore, after 12 years of fulltime work and seeing all the hard work vaporizing in front of my eyes I couldn't handle. I am lucky man with Rianne at my side and the refit is indeed a whole bunch of money but the value of the PS has increased a lot and it is definitely worthwhile. Much love from all of us and glad to have you onboard.

      Thanks, great to read you had a smile on your face, in the end that's all what matters, I would not consider myself as a specialist but very happy I know the boat inside out, at least, almost ;)

    Wow! Thank you, Gerben for your amazing vlog, and Jeez! what a jaw-dropping cost for a refit.....very scary! I know it was what was required and necessary for your sailing adventures. In some strange way was well worth it, and essential.

    Really excellent presentation . Your focused, clear fast run through of the refit was excellent. I loved the part that also included your business mistakes. I had a simular situation when I bought a $2Million apartment complex with my brother and trusted him and did not read the loan documents. Cost me a insane amount of money. Trusting someone when we should not. More acknowledgements of these mistakes is helpful. I realized that what is so .

      So much to tell so I had to speed up the pace a bit. This was one of the best episodes. Feels genuine and shows that buying a 15-year-old boat, you always should put away a considerable amount to make it seaworthy again. I have been under the impression that LiFePo4-chemistry is very safe, not like the Li-ion chemistry that caused the bad reputation about batteries that caught fire. Thanks for sharing all the costs. It helps with my own calculations. Cheers.

    • @FeeltheBreeze
      @FeeltheBreeze  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WoW, thank you so much, put a lot of effort in this video, so much to tell and explain and didn't want to make it too long. LiFePo4 is indeed very safe, many people think they are the same as Lithium and we did not want to take a risk with the insurance company. Great to hear it helps you doing your own calculations, will host some in depth conversations on Patreon for a real deep dive. All the best.

    Another tip to not have to pay import duties nor VAT on your euro imports is to use your foreign flag. I didn’t pay any imports nor VAT on a new engine and sails due to my boat being US flagged. The only thing you need to ensure is that when you leave the country (even if it’s only for 1 or 2 days) with those new items you checkout properly with Turkish customs.

Ik ken dat bedrijf door andere vloggers , die zijn hier heeeel positief over , maar wat een geld . Wij hebben semi tractie accu 's en een 3500 generator en 2 165 ah vetus accu 's, 2 90 ah startaccu 's en een 75 ah startaccu voor de generator . Mijn eerste pakket accu 's is 18 jaar meegegaan, dat vond ik echt geweldig. We koken elektrisch, geen gas aan boord. Maak je niet te druk over het geld , geweldig dat je Rianne bent tegengekomen en dat daardoor je leven deze kant op is gegaan, het heeft zo moeten zijn en ookal wil je zo graag voor je gezin zorgen , misschien doe je dat door ze gelukkig te maken .

      Hoi Martin, wat gaaf om te horen dat jullie accupakket 18 jaar is meegegaan, dat betekent zeer zorgvuldig gebruik, de accu's van SuperB zijn inderdaad een rib uit het lijf en wij zijn dan ook zeer dankbaar dat wij Brand Ambassadors van ze zijn zodat de ribben nog in de ribbenkast zitten. Elektrisch koken is the next step voor ons, eerst solar ;) Als een man wil je graag voor het gezin zorgen en dat komt er weer aan, probeer ze elke dag gelukkig te maken en meestal lukt dat en soms even niet. Embracing the waves of life ;)

    You're doing good if you can keep boat upkeep costs under $50K a year. Good timing on your refit, by next year prices will have doubled. In North America a lot of owners are going with liability insurance only because of outrageous rising costs. You know what they say, the sailor with no insurance, is the safest sailor on the water! Fabulous lifestyle choice, enjoy.

    • @FeeltheBreeze
      @FeeltheBreeze  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, the price of teak already doubled so we are very happy we did the refit last year, we can imagine insurance companies are facing difficulties with so many "idiots" on the water, we got hit by charter boats because they did not know how to anchor and started dragging with just 15 knots of wind, on the other hand it's ridiculous how many new boats are fitted and delivered with light anchors.

    Gaaf en zeer informatief! Alleen jullie refit koste al 10x meer dan mijn boot, maar die is dan ook een stuk ouder en kleiner (en van staal)... I subscribed, and eventually unsubscribed, which I felt bad about. You’ve made a number of comments about liking honest feedback, so I’m providing it. Hiding it a little among the Dutch comments! I feel that you guys have such potential, but there’s only so much artsy sailing I can watch! Thank you very much for this video which I found very interesting. I didn't understand everything but because of my understanding of English, except it's a video I will be able to listen to it again. I was thinking of a higher price for a rebuild. It must be said that this is your house and of course placing the same price on a repair of a house you can have more but you will not go far in distance, compared to what your sailboat will give you. It's all in the vision that you see things. But the price that I found low was the installation of the colored membrane instead of painting the boat. I have a question regarding this membrane. Does it form more algae below the waterline?

    indirect lightning strikes causing damage is because of stepped voltage - years ago farmers would find dead cattle after an indirect strike and the reason they died was that the voltage from the lightning strike decreases as it moves from the strike zone - so cattle or humans could have a potential voltage difference between the legs of 100's of thousand volts due to the resistance of the earth - the same principle applies to boats etc a small difference in resistance can cause massive currents eg a 100,000 volts induced on the earth compared to 48 volts on the positive makes the 48volts earthier than the earth and you actually get a reverse current flow using Ohms law of I (current) = V(volts)/Ohms (resistance) = 100,000/10 (assumed resistance of battery as a guess but it is less) gives you a momentary spike of 10,000 Amps - So even if your induced voltage is less you can still get high Amp spikes that will fry your gear - that is why always seek safety with lightning and keep your feet together to stop that step voltage becoming deadly - yachts not so easy

      Hi Carsten thanks for the sarcasm- Rianne here. If you watched and listened closely you know that the boat is mine and the investment is done with the money that I made. Woman can be smart in investing and taking care of their family just as equal as men can. Have a good one!
