Thank you SOOOOOooo much Ryan! I am in the middle of buying a 1991 Privilege 43 catamaran and I'm living with not one, but two e80's. This will make the upgrade easier to plan and execute! The real challenge will be the wait to get through the survey and move before I can start fixing her up! Thanks again!
Thanks for an awesome tour Ryan and Sophie. We have a 2007 Raymarine - it still works but …. ! Time to think about change, which is daunting when you’re a pre-PC 73 year old! So your straightforward and simple explanation - with the enthusiastic human touch - made it all make sense. 👏👏👏🙏
Why can't I give three thumps up to this post??!! I always love Ryan's technical corners and this was great. So glad you have all this new equipment, but I bet there were a few choice words while running cables that were not shared. Can't wait for the next episode. Love you guys!
I've got basically the same boat with the same old electronics. It's really helpful to have the upgrade path so clearly explained and demonstrated. Smart move by @Raymarine to make you two ambassadors. I've got "next level tech" envy.
Bahahahahaha.... I always imagined Sophie got her sense of humour from her mom but I see now she undoubtedly got it from Ryan.... hehehehe. Congrats on the new gear!!!!
I watch a lot, I mean a LOT of sailing videos -- this one was both informative and interesting with a laugh or two. Nicely done! Just what I was looking for was more info on Raymarine today. Now to find that radar video you mentioned....
Absolutely the best Ryan video ever! First it was filled with really useful info (normal for Ryan) then it was entertaining and fun (not as normal)! Thank you so much for putting this together and showing us what is possible!
..... laughing ..... from the guy that was not exactly over joyed when the camera was in his face .... well done Ryan and congrats on the new equipment and partnership .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Congrats on getting the new Raymarine equipment. I love my Axiom and Quantum Radar. It works well with the 2008 vintage components, which I won't replace until they stop working. Having wireless lets me see the chart plotter/radar screen on a tablet from my bunk while I'm underway single handed. Using the radar at night is a game changer when sailing solo, and it uses very little power. Having the autopilot remote control is a great thing to have as well. Thanks for the video!
Tech time on Polar Seal the perfect mix of an SNL skit (1980's version) and Ryan's Master Class in boat technology. The schematic drawn on the back of a customs form vintage too funny. Raymarine equipment one amazing upgrade. Radar viewable on flat screen TV off the charts cool.
Just a few days ago, I asked our local Raymarine dealer for a quote on new chart plotter, auto pilot, and AIS. Even though they will do the installation, it's great to get this tutorial to have some idea of what they are doing.
Congrats! I'm a tech geek and I'm still intimidated! Fortunately, my Hobie Cat 16 does not need much in the line of electronics! 🤣. Smooth sailing you two!
Ryan, you knocked it out of the park with your near Oscar worthy performance! You made the techie stuff look real easy or was it because of Sophie's network diagram?? 😂
Very cool update. I’m glad you did this Ryan because I’m planning a similar upgrade for my boat. My current equipment is outdated and needs upgrading before is cast off for Eastern Canada and beyond. I’m definitely going to seriously consider Raymarine.
This I believe is a similar way of thinking that occurred in the past sometime in the music industry for electronic instruments and they called it MIDI. Musical Instrument Digital Interface. So Korg, Yamaha, Kawai etc all decided to sit down and work out a protocol that could communicate between different brands of electronic musical instruments. This freed up the choice of purchase so one could buy a drum machine by one brand maker and electronic keyboard by another brand maker and a wind synthesiser produced by different company that would all talk to each other nice and smoothly. Great video great presentation 11 out of 10.
Oh Wow, first video I have seen of yours, and you showed me exactly what I wanted to know about. All that beautiful technology! I cant wait to equip my sailboat with it. And you can operate your drone from one of the consoles!!?? Thats so awesome! Subscribed, looking forward to seeing more. Thank you.
Trying to teach myself NMEA 2K and marine electronics in general. We just bought a 2004 Hunter 44 Deck Salon and I assumed (remember that word starts w/ “ass” as in I am a jackass for assuming anything) that the new Garmin 942XS chart plotter was connected to all of the Raymarine instruments and auto pilot…not so much. After learning about NMEA 2K AND that all devices need to be connected by cables AND then realizing there is only a pwr cable going into the back of the Garmin AND that all of the Raymarine stuff on my boat is probably original to the boat and likely can’t even talk to the new chart plotter…my heart sank and I realized I had a lot to learn and a lot of work ahead of me. Thank you for the education. Only thing I’m fuzzy on is running cable. You showed a little bit on running the mast cable but not any of the other cables. I’m just wondering if you have any tricks/techniques on finding all the hardware that needs to be replaced, tracing cable runs and pulling new. What type of problems/opportunities did you run into. Thank you for the video!
good video. Thanks for doing it. As you did, we just connected our Seatalk 1 to Seatalk NG, but went a bit farther because I have a Garmin Chartplotter, we connected the Seatalk NG to a NEMA 2000. It has an added unplanned advantage of independently powering both networks. so I have redundancy if one power source goes down. Well, thanks again.
Nice fun video. Love the time travel part. 😋 Always nice getting new Equipment installed. Though I am having a hard how misc. Items in the 2007 background (sponge, water bottle, etc) got transported to the 2021 Ryan's time. 🤔😂🤣 S/V Misty Blue Yonder
WOW! That is funny!! My favorite hobby is also routing cables! Especially in very difficult to reach cramped spaces, overcrowded cable conduits, narrow long pass-troughs, that take multiple of attempts to get it done: I love it!!
Yep, done something very similar this year. My old 1981 Columbia 8.7 has a full Raymarine Axiom+ with autopilot, windex, depth, speed. Quantum 2 radar coming soon.
New Stuff! I love new stuff! But, I know my limitations, and this new stuff is why I am sitting here and you, Ryan & Sophie, are living there! Sophie, your Los Angeles freeway (Ala Johnny Carson) diagram was best! Use this new stuff in good health, and now you will be able to find the New Year's celebration without much ado, just be sure your batteries are full charged. :¬) Webhead USA
Great vid…so glad we found you!! We bought a boat that has RM dop quant2 in the box are getting ready to install the radar and have a few questions. We have axiom 12, all ports are taken up on the back, there is a Ethernet hub,iTC-5 but we don’t see a high speed switch. We can’t seem to find info on where to plug in the radar to test it to see if it works before we commit to installing on the mast. Love any advice or resources you may hav.
Really enjoyed your video and congratulations on the new electronics. I upgraded our Raymarine Electronics from the E90, ST70 edition that came with the B40 new in 2011. You will really like the displays, Quantum 2 Radar overlays with targets identified moving towards you and away from you and recent lighthouse upgrade including a great anchor alarm! Try to purchase the advanced operating instructions book...for me a more convenient way of looking things up vs. an electronic version....or maybe just showing my age... Happy Holidays!!
Thanks for the informative and entertaining episode - this is something that I need to look at doing for our 2007 boat with its original electronics. Although I can get the equipment model numbers from Sophie's nice diagram, it would be easier if a list was in the summary above.
I just went through the same thing! Including a Quantum 2 radar. I even got a Standard Horizon GX1850G VHF that has an NMEA2000 port on the back. Everything is networked. You can use WiFi to connect the Axiom to the Radar. I had a hard time putting the cover back on the IC-5 and it looks like you did as well?
Hahaha very informative and funny. I think that's the happiest and most animated we've seen Ryan in ANY video. Well done both of you
Watching Ryan geek out on tech is a stupid amount of fun! :-) Thanks for sharing this.
Nice to see Sophie's good humour rubbing off on Ryan. Very informative.
Yes it is an 18 minute commercial but still fun! Never seen Ryan so animated!
Thank you SOOOOOooo much Ryan! I am in the middle of buying a 1991 Privilege 43 catamaran and I'm living with not one, but two e80's. This will make the upgrade easier to plan and execute! This vid actually is Ryan's best. You can tell he was being super creative and having fun doing it. You've come a long way Ryan
I think that this was Ryan's best one yet. I laughed my butt off. We should see more of 2007 Ryan!
Ryan has become such a strong / entertaining on-screen personality. Its cool
I’ve never seen Ryan so happy!!!! I loved the back in time skit he did. Awesome editing. Cheers!
When Ryan geeks out on electronics/wiring (and on a sailing vessel no less), I'm in heaven :-)
My favorite video because it was so much fun and you didn't drag out the updating of your Equipment over several episodes!
Hey. Great episode. Ryan is in his element. Congrats on the new gear!

What a great presentation for your new equipment. And a great sense of humor as well. Now it's time for the both of you to ENJOY!
I've got basically the same boat with the same old electronics. It's really helpful to have the upgrade path so clearly explained and demonstrated. Smart move by @Raymarine to make you two ambassadors. I've got "next level tech" envy.
Its cool stuff... and a major difference than before.
Damn it! This is my favorite episode so far! Thanks! And appreciate that Sophie chart of wires!
Thanks!
Bahahahahaha.... I always imagined Sophie got her sense of humour from her mom but I see now she undoubtedly got it from Ryan.... hehehehe. Congrats on the new gear!!!!
Haha... thanks!
LOVE RYAN!!! Great video guys. Sophie, you’re amazing and now we see the fantastic Ryan. We want MORE RYAN!
I love ryan's tech tuesday.
Raymarine is so awesome.....great setup! Well done Ryan!
Thank you very much, my brother, for this distinguished work that you did and introduced me to. I benefited a lot from you. You are a good man.❤❤❤❤❤❤

This is my exact pending project, so grateful for this video. Need to upgrade all the electronics on my 1999 Catalina 42
Pretty cool - informative and funny!! Look out Sophie - Ryan is encroaching on your humor responsibility. Love the tech!!
one of the best video's from you ever !!

Waited far too long for the return of Ryan's tech corner, damn man you aced it.
I really enjoyed that one. Great work guys
Ryan you are so smiley when you talk tech!! Great video you two!!

Super cool Ryan! Nice presentation. Very funny. I like to see Ryan 2007 .-)
I miss laughing a bit (since a couple of years), so thanks a ton ! Take care ! And fair winds !
Finally a tech corner again !
All that stuff for free!!!! Nice and happy for you.
Just a few days ago, I asked our local Raymarine dealer for a quote on new chart plotter, auto pilot, and AIS. Even though they will do the installation, it's great to get this tutorial to have some idea of what they are doing.
Amazing!
Cool as!! cabling the boat, Ryan is going to love that!! That's right up there with fixing toilets!! :)
I love cabling so so much. Actually we already hadst the cables in place so that part was easy
Congrats! I'm a tech geek and I'm still intimidated! Fortunately, my Hobie Cat 16 does not need much in the line of electronics! 🤣. Smooth sailing you two!
Love the video, running the same setup on our Leopard, and learned a few things. Thanks
Glad to see Ryan got to “Upgrade/Replace” the Electronics👍 Sure “Stunk” on Last Passage☹️ Continue to Stay Safe & Enjoy😎
Truly well done!!!!
Just starting the exact same process, and now I understand it. Thank you 👍
Nothing like getting some early Christmas Presents! Merry Christmas Y'all 🙂😊
Nice and awesome video! I enjoyed it just watching it.
Excellent works 👍👍👍👍love this vid so much 😃
Great video, very informative and entertaining!! Thanks!
Ryan, you knocked it out of the park with your near Oscar worthy performance! You made the techie stuff look real easy or was it because of Sophie's network diagram?? 😂
No words.. FANTASTIC!! And I don’t mean the Gadgets only 🤣
Great video guys! You’ll soon be on Netflix! Merry christmas!🎅🏻
I absolutely love Ryan's Tech Corner!!!!! That level of geeky excitement is the same way I feel with any new computer equipment.
Epic! Now you can put the autopilot on the wind vane and tack like a boss. :)
Highly interesting & informative PLUS funny, thanks for the laughs 2007 Ryan
Remembering how awkward Ryan used to be in front of camera at the start of the channel, and watching him now is really something.
Thanks Sciolist.

Funny and cute.. and hey.. Ryan is in a good mood!!
It does happen from time to time
Ah, a man who knows what he wants and how to get it, powerrrrr! 😜

Glad to see this pop up. Our C80 died last year so we upgraded to Axiom. Looking forward to your thoughts on the radar.
Loving the radar so far... it is different than the digital for sure but I do like it.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022
Wow! what a nice interesting vlog. I'm so glad you guys have got some new toys, well done. Stay safe and have a fantastic Christmas. x
Thanks so much steve

Good one Ryan.

I love your tee-shirt !!! The toilet notice ! Really useful in all circumstances !
That t-shirt is a Ryan original design and will soon be for sale on our website 😂
@@RyanSophieSailing the true sailors knows !!
Hi, great episode. I use the alarms, or guard zones, a lot at sea. That can be of interest to others.
...and the Victron app
Really smart system and install

Oh yes... there should be a club of the people who love doing that job. Or not.
@@RyanSophieSailing That would be a very, very, very small club LOL!
Yeah, forget about learning how to navigate when the electronics go out.
@@dboboc I am happy that I learned to navigate the old way being an RYA yachtmaster.
Wow the video is awesome !! Ryan has denitely some untapped acting skills haha
Thanks!
Love it! More tech episodes pls like maybe a how to lithiumify your boat??
We have some lithium videos from a few years ago which can get you started.
Freaky: this is exactly the position i find myself in right now!
Yep, done something very similar this year. My old 1981 Columbia 8.7 has a full Raymarine Axiom+ with autopilot, windex, depth, speed. Quantum 2 radar coming soon.
