Nice Corvette! Salvage, if rebuilt correctly, can be a good value. My $42k sticker 16 Mustang GT was totaled at a year old, $23k repair estimate. I bought it for $8,250 and spent $12k on the repairs instead of buying a new one for $38k or another year old one for $33k. Saved me a good bit of $$$ and I'm still enjoying it today.
@@leesgarage7 if I had sold it right after the repair I probably could have made a couple thousand. The trade in value was about $27-28k so I figure it was worth maybe $23k or so with the "total loss" blemish on the Carfax. Title is clean since I never gave it up. Now I'd be lucky to get $18k for it I think since comparable cars are selling private party in the low $20k range. Fwiw, CarMax offered me $10,600 a couple months after it was repaired! I have a video of the damage and repairs on my channel.

I kept waiting on it to blow up or something.......like you said, it was cursed and looks like you took the stink off of it...great video and love watching you work
One thing about writing off a vehicle with that low miles: Many insurance policies include the line item: diminished value. If the car is damaged enough, or at all, even the slightest, they will write it off and replace it due to diminished value. Specially with such low miles. Now this doesn't mean if you get curb rash or get keyed, but if you damage the front end sufficiently, or get into an accident severe enough to have a report filed, then that clause can come into effect. Samcrac did one on an R8 where the owner curbed it. The original R8 had a design flaw in the front suspension where the support is welded to the body right below the driver's half of the windshield. He had it re-welded and the other reinforced. He also had to replace some suspension parts but other than that, the vehicle was perfect. SuperspeedersRob had a Maserati coupe that was the same thing: guy curbed it and destroyed the right front suspension. From Maserati the cost was $25K. They wrote off the car. Rob bought it for $12K, replaced the parts with used parts for $8K and not only got his full value of the vehicle cheque BUT still had the car to rent out. I think they gave him $80K for the car or something, minus the $20K he made a profit of $50K on the accident.
Craig good job filming him as he drove away in the Corvette. Burning out the clutch... Then Coming back to you saying you sold him a vette with a bad clutch.
What’s annoying is the fact that I can’t see the head casting numbers on the engine. If I saw a truck pulley while under the car that’s the first thing I’d look at. LS2/LS6 have the same 243 heads. A 5.3 would have an 862. Not all 5.3s are iron as well so the next thing would be block. Sketchy buying a salvage car! But it can prove worth it sometimes. Just gotta know what you’re in for
I had an 05. It's a bit of an odd duck because it had a lot of things that were one-year only: Reverse to shut down, steering wheel design, ECM, column lock, differential, etc. I had fun with it, but there's a reason why many of those items were changed on later models.

That 5.3 suburban motor is a lt motor not a ls, does the corvette have a aluminum engine block or is it painted black....but yeah it probably has a truck motor in it
Here in Minnesota, they don't check salvage title cars if it's over a certain (6 years) and under $8000. So I can just buy a car from a salvage auction and just register it without needing an inspection. Then the title shows as prior salvage. It's how I got my CTS. I think they still give you the plates on cars that are required to be inspected, but even then the inspection is just checking for stolen parts haha (the form says to deter fraud and theft). Some states have less requirements and people even used certain states to wash a title of salvage branding. So you definitely need to be careful. That vette is a great deal at $15k though.
Absolute steal: ummm not really. They are selling for around $22K CDN up here now they have higher miles, but haven't been salvaged twice. A couple even have the borla exhaust. Lower mile ones are around $29K CDN,. Now with the exchange rate of roughly 30%, $15K is about the going rate without 2 write offs.
I buy all cars lightly hit with a salvage title and I apply for a rebuilt title in my state. Did cars like that in NY and TN.
