    The C5 Chevy Corvette Z06 is the ultimate performance car bargain. Today I'm reviewing a C5 Z06 to show you why its such a great deal -- and why the 2002 Corvette Z06 is worth a serious look. I'm also driving the Z06 to review its driving experience.

      Take another sports car of the era that is pretty equivalent as far as condition and performance, but has a quality interior. How much would that cost today (plus ongoing maintenance costs) compared to this Z06? Different car, but one I'm more familiar with-
      2.5 years ago I bought a 1993 base Corvette for $8000; 67000 miles and very good condition inside and out.
      Another car from the era that I really like is the Porsche 928 GTS; the 1993 version did 0-60 in 5.4s -- the base Corvette was a couple of tenths slower, but in the same ballpark. So, can I get a 928 GTS in similar condition to my Corvette for similar money? Not even close. Looking at like $20k+ easily and god forbid anything goes wrong with it!
      Is the interior nicer? Without a doubt, but it isn't $12k+ nicer and it wasn't $40-50k nicer in 1993.

    • @kgisabeast
      @kgisabeast 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Never really thought of that, the corvettes interior I always thought was cheap, but I’m trying to think of other cars from that period, the Supra was done, the Porsche, AMGs and Ms from that time period are not going to be as reliable as the vette which actually is one of the more reliable chevys.

  • @91cannibal
    @91cannibal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +342

    Honestly, C5 interiors are really comfortable and not bad. Every Chevy squeak's and rattles but that's ok. The 405hp makes me forget about those things

    • @bunsenn5064
      @bunsenn5064 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The C6 kind of follows the trend, and the 500+ hp on that one makes up for any of the downs.

    • @jeremydewitte9823
      @jeremydewitte9823 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, the C5 isn’t really horrible considering the time and the price, and I didn’t buy my vettes for that (even though they could be better). I bought them for how they drive, the style, and the experience. It is amazing however that GM was able to totally redesign the whole car on the C8’s to mid-engine AND have the interior totally upgraded for the price they are. Incredible how the 2020’s were only $2,000 (approximately) higher on the base price than an based price automatic from 2019 AND have a dual clutch transmission.

    • @jeremydewitte9823
      @jeremydewitte9823 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also, on anyone complaining about problems on them, you can go spend half a million on a Lamborghini and still have issues. If Lambos, Ferraris, and Mclarens didn’t have issues, they wouldn’t hire mechanics at their dealerships. There’s a reason why Corvette has such a great fan base.

    So funny...I remember sitting in my C5 the night i bought it, I had it sitting in my garage, all I could think about was how beautiful the interior was, it was like a cockpit, like a fighter jet. It was finer than any other car I had ever owned (my other car was a 1988 b2200 and I thought that was nice!) and I felt like I had really made it. Still have the car and still feel that way every time I sit down. Guess it's all about perspective.

      TH-camrs like this, that make 400-500k per month, view these like a car for peasants. Perhaps, but it had it where it counts and the interior is super comfortable. Apsis had splendid options to fix a lot of those issues and you can spend your 15-20k extra on the interior to make it what you wanted, but now.... you can't have a basic c8... let alone a basic c8z. The people that could afford a c5z can't afford a c8z if their incomes kept pace with inflation.

      Most N/A American V8 performance cars can get around 20 mpg or better in mixed driving easily. I could get low-mid 20s easy in my LS1 in a solid 50/50 driving mix. The numbers on the DIC buttons originated from the Quick Configure feature that was there in 1997. When all your options were set, the car would give you a code number that represented that configuration. Just punch in the number and your car was set the way you like it. The numbers stayed but the feature was dropped in 1998.5 to make room for Active Handling software.

      cat well depends what you mean by built quality. All of my 2002 z06’s interior is functioning the same way it left the factory. Also those cheap plastics mean that the interior is stupid light. The door covers you can lift them with one hand, the dashboard is also very light, which translates that you don’t need to strip the interior down to make it a sort of a racecar. Well you do but you understand what I mean.

      Absolutely. I like the cohesive appearance of the interior with its consistency in color and texture. The controls are intuitive and ergonomic. Plus it's very easy to wipe clean. BTW, the cupholder is for when you're parked, not pulling a G in corners. It actually has an ashtray with a cigarette lighter along with a passenger side airbag you can shut off. And unlike Ferraris, I didn't need a specialist to repair / replace sticky switchgear along with the rubber bands driving the cam. I LOVE my Rubbermaid interior.

    These came from the factory with a full length antenna but many owners replaced them with a shorter one, despite the reduced reception. Other steps taken to reduce weight - thinner glass, smaller battery, and a reduced amount of sound insulation used. Regarding the visceral nature of the C5 Z06, I owned one for 8 years and actually took steps to upgrade to a C6 Z06 during that span of time but chose to dump the C6 (after just a few months of ownership) and keep the C5 instead, this because the C6 was boring to drive, as compared to the C5.
