lol I would never buy one of these cars "out of warranty"...the technology is just incredible and costs big bucks to keep up to safe parameters.
This channel is definitely one of my top 3. On a different note though, every Audi owner I know sinks way too much money in them before they cut bait. This was a blessing in disguise for you. I have a few BMX bikes in the man cave. A schwinn sting that I actually raced as a kid, a sting competition, a mini sting, a sting competition basket case project, and an empty spot for a GT Pro Performer that I have yet to pull the trigger on... I guess I’ll know when I find it. I have always been a schwinn guy but I can appreciate a nice GT or Redline... Anyway keep up the great content!
I agree with that but you have to understand that was his dream car. But then again he’s in it to make money so yeah it was probably best to cut it loose.
I am audi owner. Oil change every 4000 miles, full syntetic, on any model. They can go 250000 miles or more if they are diesels.

I think you made the right call on the R8. Sometimes that instant gratification feeling can make you look past things that will just bug you in the future. I would chalk it up to learning experience and take the hands on time with the car as the positive. Now you know even more than you did previously with them to help with the next deal.
You didn't loose over $500 you got out of a $50,000 money pit. Coulda woulda shoulda......get rid of that thing.
Things always happen for a reason, so there is definitely a reason as to why you did not win the bid again for the Audi as the transmission probably has some major underlying issues unknown. Also, I think that you can find another one down the road that is nicer and for a lot less money.

I can't believe you have the huffy with the shield, I was born in '83 and I chose that over a redline for Christmas, got into dynos, gts, and robinson after the huffy broke from a jump, it lasted one summer for me as a kid - cheers Craig!!

Do you also have a thing for 2 stroke dirt bikes from our childhood days? Thats the direction i took collecting CR and YZ 250s from the 80s, nice market for them restored and running - cheers!
Phew...R8 gone. Didn’t pull the trigger on the (ahem) “one of a kind” mustang. Appears to have made a solid purchase of the Panamera. And!! Dad got a truck step.

I was fallowing you for a few months until I saw thus video , You showed the bikes I used to ride and bmx freestyled with. Your my new fave car video guy. Just got my Dealer license, Been selling cars for 20 years on and off . Thanks for the inspiration.
That was a class act right from the get go, I did something similar in 78, but I had only paid half and I needed a shotgun when brought four guys to collect the other half instead of returning my money. No one died and I kept the car for the money I had already paid. The price of the car was $3,800 and it needed brakes (which I was good with) the trany on the otherhand started the war. All's well that ends well, we never had a problem again.
Blessing to get rid of. That R8 had poor maintenance history if its got those major issues with such low miles. You'll find one you want may even get a better deal. Spend what you want on it and be well maintained.

I'm a dealer in Florida... you can get a 2 or 3 year old C7 Z06 or Z07 with less than 15K miles which will completely destroy that R8 in every way for 50-55K. If I had an extra 50K to blow on a sports car IMO you can't beat the Z06!

That R8 is truly a beast as my friend drove one for a about month. His had a random non start issue that could not be diagnosed accurately. I think you dodged a bullet...if you really want one; be ready to spend some serious cash on repairs and maintenance...then again people who drive R8s don’t worry about that sort of expense .
My dads dad's favourite saying was , better to lose a good deal than gain a bad one .
I worked at Audi Mission Viejo and the service writers would tell me the R-Tronic transmission was problematic...it’s better to get the manual transmission for this model.
Make sure you put winter tires on the winter beater. The all wheel drive might help to get you going but those hard compound summer tires will not stop you. You will be antilock brake jerking as you slide through intersections.
Change your smoke detector battery. I kept thinking it was mine

Obviously the R8 would be worth more to someone that already had the parts or access to cheap repairs or replacements or didn't care much about the dash. Another possibility is the buyer highly suspects the vehicle to rise in price as it gets rarer.
You stood your ground bro, it is what it is I don't think it was worth it even if it was $500 more you know as well as I do it had some type of transmission issue that probably would have got worse over time so yes it needed the cats which was a big investment but that transmission is a huge investment so either way you'll find another man this one had issues that wasn't perfect and more issues we're definitely coming down the line you win some you lose some you'll find another just keep watching
I love your brindle Boxer. I had one almost identical to yours (ours was a female) through my teens and into my 20s. Ours loved to swim. We had a summer home on a large creek and she lived in it. It did my heart good to see you and your kids play with it. Speaking of kids ......... when are you gonna grow up? Don't do it! I am 70, have a Miata, a large Lego and model car collection.

It seems a bit risky to put the check on the internet like that? I paused the video and I can read all of the routing and account numbers. Someone could pretty easily create a fake check with that and try to cash it.

You did the right thing. Never second guess yourself or your plan. When you do that, you will fall I to a pattern of making the same decision over and over again and that always leads to mistakes and disasters.

I like Craig's channel and what he is doing. However, he can afford those cars and spend time on them, but cannot afford to replace a 9V battery in his smoke alarm and spend 2 minutes replacing it? He definitely needs to recalibrate his priorities. A smoke alarm can not only help you save our house, but save the lives of your children and pets. I know, sometimes we put things off, especially those that are seemingly tiny, and in this case, it is... except for when you need the smoke alarm to perform its duty, which is NOT tiny. I love cars too, so another way to look at is that if he spends $6 and spends about 2 minutes, he could help protect his beloved Viper in the garage.
As for the Audi R8, I would say that he definitely dodged a bullet on that one. The R8 looks fantastic, but they are absolute money pits. It is like having the type of really hot girlfriend that doesn't age well, demands you get married to her, and is way more maintenance than what she is worth, and demands too much time and attention, and is definitely TMW. There are numerous other alternative options to the Audi R8 that are WAY better. The Audi R8 situation makes the boat situation look like a bargain value, and I know how much a pain in the ass they can be, on top of the $$$. 😂
R8 is also my dream car!!! I also had a 1990 Eagle talon AWD Turbo, 3 2G Eclipse GSX Turbo, I just sold a 1991 300zxTT after driving it for a few years. My daily now is an A6 3.0 C7. We have similar taste!!!
I think you made the right move. It did have the right look, colors, and options - but the amount wrong with it - leaves a sour taste. Hopefully everyones toys will start going to auction over the next few months, and you'll find one that's been better maintained.

I wish the auctions here had the same bidding as ACV. Here they have a +10 minute end delay if someone puts a bid down so if someone bids right at the end it will add another 10 minutes to the end time. I have literally fallen asleep waiting for cars to end some nights
So do you have your own money tied up in the dealership? What would you recommend as far as getting cars for small operation to pick up 2-3 cars to start. What auction?

WOW ive watched a few of your videos and i like them alot....me and my dad have a used car lot in central ma.... i just saw this video and that you collect GT bikes....i love them...last summer car sales were slow for us i got heavy into the bikes and actually had a great year buying and selling bikes NO ENGINE LIGHTS NO PAPERWORK NO SALVAGE TITLE..... GT bikes are on FIRE right now.... keep it up awesome videos
I got a 2009 R8 V8 gated I'll sell you for 60k. Fits right in your price range and you don't have to worry about the R-tronic transmission.

I grew up riding those bikes in the 90s , I had a Dyno NSX and a GT Vertigo 👍😎cool bike collection man!!!!
I think it was Samcrac that had one of these and the upper strut mount separated from the firewall. A weak point on these. Insurance companies total them when it happens. He had someone weld and brace his. No matter how nice a car is some are not worth the headache.

Best thing I've seen yet the bike collection. What year is the Dyno Comp? I had a 94, will never forget that thing. The Performer is a classic as well. Love the air
im sure you know this already but that instagram sticker is a clear indication a younger person owned the vehicle. More likely to have been beat on so keep that in mind, may also be why the tires are mismatched
Glad to see I’m not the only crazy person that will walk away for that small of a difference. In my case it was $750 on $65k but same idea. I determined it was worth $x, if it goes above that so be it. Good for you for sticking to your price target.

I rolling through your old videos and found the Audi R8 series . Man that sucks that it turned out to be a headache . The 2015 Audi R8 gated shifter is one of the the best gated shifters I've ever drove ,so much fun in the v10 manual transmission . Personally I think the Audi is a better car than the Ferrari .
Based on other R8 "deals" I've seen I think you were okay to let it go. Audi's are not cheap to repair!

I know your feeling of despair on this car....most people will never experience the Audi R8's performance...its truly "other world" euphoria... my son made it possible for me to get 1 item checked off my "bucket list"...
It so happens he is a quality engineer for V* W*R*D and was an "emissions testing" fleet manager gathering test data from various vehicles ranging from Bugatti's to Audi's to Bentley's to VW's...I have driven many of those vehicles from the TT's, R6's S8 4.0's to RS7's to R8 spyder to R8 5.2 FSI S-tronic...I have driven many Corvettes and a Lamborghini Countach and I must say, in comparison there is nothing like the Audi R8 v10...for me, it was a "life altering" experience to go 1 to 100km in 3.1 seconds...lmao for sure, it was, for lack of a good description, better than sex!
Any profit on anything is better than no profit i say if you had a few problems i say you did good better then being stuck in hole later down the road👍👍👍

wow just saw the bikes have a red haro shredder and a grey Gt Dave Mirra hanging in the garage bought them used along time ago for my son he chose the Haro f3 and never rode the other two so they have been hanging in the garage for about 13 years now
Having had the R8 5.2 you would hate the V8 it is a turd, very prone to transmission issues and at 50k that is with in 5k of retail, good choice

Trust me when you get into the transmission and the plates and clutch are smoked for about 20,000 you would dream about only losing 500$. I loved the car and have plans to buy one too but I bought a Porsche first😊 I enjoyed the video thanks
20k is for new trans.. clutch and flywheel, cylinder is 7-10k at audi dealer hydraulic actuator and pump is another 5k😢 still lot of money

Somewhat surprised that the auction company would not have set a condition that you'd not be eligible to re-bid? Also, why not have tried to negotiate a lower price to have avoided any more auction fees if you had won it again?
The Panamera is a beautiful car but it’s never going to be a Super car, (namely an R8) nevertheless a nice ‘stop gap car’ until you see your dream R8 again for sale, so yeah not a bad consolation car. Great channel by the way 👍 btw felt your pain when the R8 went. Been there, done that.
