    Thanks for the comment! I see your concern. I will tell you in the years of training I have seen the stripes on both sides of practitioners. I picked my stripes to be to my left and I tie my belt for that way for 4 years+. Royler Gracie for example used his belt with his stripes on the left and other times to the right. Compact yourself books "Gracie submissions" and "Brazilian jiujitsu theory and technique". There is no "right" way. Hope this helps James. Thanks for the view and comment!

  • @isbjjTV
    @isbjjTV  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the striped don't have to be necessarily on the left however that's one way I was able to get the belt company logo to be read right side up. Thanks for your question and view.

  • @isbjjTV

    It's not a must however it is a common enough thing that everyone does it. Usually the patches are put on the left so if you have the left is on the bottom, it will cover the patch. They're some practitioners who use it with left under the right. I believe bibiano fernandes wore it like that a couple of times. Thanks for the view and question.

    You should make a video talking about cups in bjj?

  • @isbjjTV
    @isbjjTV  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    BJJ is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. To be honest it all came from Japan. Brazil modernized it to be used for the street (Gracie Family). Ju Jitsu is Japanees Jiu Jitsu. Ju = Gentle Jitsu = Art/technique

    Hey mate, how’s the quality on the Koral belts?

  • @itscork
    @itscork 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question and I know I’m going to get hammered for it:
    I’ve spent many years practicing taekwondo and am a 2nd Dan.
    Only been taking BJJ for a few months and I’m loving it!
    My problem: When I tie my (white) belt, it looks pretty much like yours in the video however.....to me it FEELS so dang short!
    I’m used to it hanging down an extra 5-6 inches on each side of my belt.
    It just doesn’t feel correct. I know this is just in my head.
    Should I just try to ignore it or buy a longer belt and risk looking like a doofus?
    I don’t see many longer belts in jujitsu.... thoughts?

    • @isbjjTV
      @isbjjTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your view and question. I would ignore it. You could go one size bigger but you may also drop.some weight while training jiu jitsu.

  • @IceDevil2k
    @IceDevil2k 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand that the left over right lapel applies to right handed practitioners. Dating back to drawing your sword out from your kimono.
    But is there correlation between dominant side and the side your stripes are hanging?
    I've noticed some black belts will always have their stripes on their right side, but I've also noticed Helio never showed consistency on which side the stripes of his red belt hung to. Sometimes they were on the right. Sometimes they were on the left.
    Consistency please?

    Could you make a video of how to tie the belt on the back of you backpack

  • @isbjjTV
    @isbjjTV  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    before you put the logo end on your hip, make sure the logo is right side up, and facing your hip. That's where you are most likely going wrong. Let me know how it turns out. If it still does not come out right side up, shoot me a message and we will email you a separate video with more detail. Thanks for the question and view

    Is BJJ different to Ju-Jitsu belt tie?

  • @Adrianyoutubing
    @Adrianyoutubing 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the Left over right or right over left thing comes from Japan and the Kimono days... right over left is only for funeral kimono that the dead are dressed in. Considered bad luck/bad manners to wear it that way in Judo, but this i BJJ... so guess anything goes...

  • @bornfedslaughter

    Is it just a coincidence that everyone does it or is the left lapel supposed to be in the front?
