It's mom tested :) My son started BJJ two months ago and for the first 3-4 lessons where we tried using the standard way to tie his belt, it always came undone by the end of class. After trying this method, not once has it come undone again, which is so amazing... It's the little things! I know this knot! I've known it as the Judo Knot though. And the best way to learn it is to get yelled at in Japanese that you don't understand by a 6th degree Dan in his 80's while he slaps your hands

Everyone thinks they fail because they can't tie their belt properly, to me once you pay for your class and gi ,it should be taught to you till you get it. Enjoy learning.....
We teach during class how to tie in a much simpler way but this method is more sophisticated and gives parents another option that's actually better for kids.

Both my littles started this week. After the first class of their belts continuously coming undone, I figured I better figure out how to tie it more effectively. I had it down after the second try, using my own legs as a model (God knows my waist is too wide for their belts). Very simple and super effective. I doubt this will fall off the entire class. THANK YOU!
I've done this like 20 times with my belt... and it doesn't even look remotely as good/squared off as yours... but I am a lowly fresh new white belt. :/

It's so weird. I actually thought my belly had sized up during lockdown and found my belt became too short for a regular knot, I was literally on the edge of buying a longer one lol. But with the superlock my current belt fits just perfect! :)
At 1:00 you did wrong. The mark should be towards your stomach when lifted up that is why you edited at 1:35 the mark to be turned around.... Took me solid 30min to figure out why it won't work when done like that

I did judo before BJJ and just always tied my belt that way. Only tip I got was to make sure the black stripe was on the left.

I’m a karate instructor, and it’s fine to do that knot. Karate does not have a specific way of tying the belt.
