  • Jesse Horsfall was born in Todmorden in 1859, his father was an architect.
At 21 years old, Jesse was given the task of creating a coffee house and temperance hotel by John Fielden. Over the next 30 years, until his passing in 1910 at 51 years of age, Jesse was the lead architect on a number of buildings across Todmorden. Most of them still stand today 130 years later.
Join me on a wander around Todmorden and see what buildings appeared during the creation of a new Todmorden at the end of the 19th / early 20th Century.

Very interesting video again Matt. It's amazing that we all take buildings for granted in our own towns and villages and never really give them a second thought or glance, and yet they have stood the test of time due to their planning, design structure and I would dare say 'being built with passion', unlike many of today's more modern builds!

Cheers. When you look at his buildings, you actually see a pattern emerge in their styling, and they are indeed rather fine buildings, too. I'm certainly no fan of today's new 'boxes' of quick and easy construction. Thanks for watching 🙂

@ 10:52 "Were you aware that these were designed by Jesse?, I have a funny feeling, probably not".
You're funny feeling is spot on, here at least. I always thought solely of The Fieldens more or less when visiting and learning about Todmorden, it's history and major buildings. Nice surprise then to learn about Jesse Horsfall. Sadly died a bit young at only 51.

Thank you 🙂 Definitely a forgotten name, despite all his work in the town. Yeah, 51 not a great age unfortunately. Thanks for watching

Have you done much on Stoodley Pike and the fake claim it was re-built by a Jewish businessman in recent years?

Well Sowerby Wainhouse[?] Tower and Stoodley Pike may have had hidden history elements - not discussed by mainstream history??
My take is that they link to the ancient and CURRENT [of which I have a degree of proof] UFO-contact field...??
Interested on anything you've found in this direction.

@@matparks08 I heard the original was damaged and a Jewish wealthy type built current one.
Hence the star image in the front you see now.
