The Story of John Gorman. The Scrooge of Blind Lane. 1871. Todmorden

Whilst reading through The Annals of Todmorden, a book that records 350 years of events, people and places, I was drawn to a post showing on October 1st 1871, an 'old miser' called John Gorman had passed away. It seemed a very unfair description to have next to your name for the rest of time, so I set out to find whether the description was justified.
With help from the experts on the 'Todmorden Past and Present ' Facebook Page who provided the newspaper reports from the time, you can decide if Mr Gorman deserves the title as the 'Scrooge of Todmorden'.
