@@badinski_1195 My own opinion on this is that there’s no direct representation of Egyptian culture in this film but there is an overarching reconstruction of the ancient world that touches on Egypt in certain ways. But to me there’s little that would be ascribed to Egypt that couldn’t be more readily ascribed to ancient Sumer, Mesopotamia, Hattusa etc…With that said, I think the Egypt angle is an interesting one and could lead to some interesting observations.

I was so fortunate to be a kid to see all the Star Wars, Conan the Barbarian, Indiana Jones, Dragonslayer, Halloween and Alien on their opening days at the theater. Conan and Dragonslayer remain to this day two of the greatest fantasy movies ever made. Only problem is there were about 150 garbage fantasy movies made behind them that ruined quality fantasy movies, and fear of making them for years to come.

The worst decision they could’ve made was lightening the character for the sequel conan the destroyer lacked the depth of the first movie had I’m just hoping that the new film that they are planning has that level of depth and dimension to see Conan as a king ready for that last great battle.
This is by far the best of the Conan movies. Better obviously than the second film and much better than the film that came out a couple of years ago. The first Conan film does take from some elements of the books. The others don't...not at all. The music is what makes the film imo. It's perfect for the genere. It isn't perfect, however. HAhahahaha Dino De Laurentiis looks like and talks like a villain from a Conan story! Seriously, though. Not a perfect translation of Howard's work, but very close. After watching this, I don't think there can be any doubt as to Stone's respect for the source material, or how well Milius grasped Howard's themes and higher artistic points.
Very much agreed. It's hardly 1-1 with Robert's work, but it bears similar themes despite the differences between the Conan of Robert and that of Millius and Stone. It works fine on its own as an icon of fantasy movies.
One of the best Comic to movies ever made.. If not the best... Stone captured Conan perfectly... no CGI.. no changing the source material.. Great music, sets, and story, and good acting.

The better movie than what we got with Milius could not possibly be made. This is the reason why i can`t agree with your idea. I would not have wanted even Milius to make a sequel yearly, because sequels would probably turn out shitty. One simply does not make such a masterpiece in a year.
Nobody seems to know that the music and costumes were lifted from a Russian movie called Ivan Nevesky made by the director Eisenstein. The music is hard to recognize because it is so distorted.
Technically it was gonna be, apparently the name he uses in the movie IS a alias from one of the stories. But Arnold was only supposed to be in the film briefly, but he got basically tied into a much larger role
Imagine any other than Arnold starring in a movie called Conan the Barbarian in 1982.......Right,you can't? Me either. He was made to be Conan. Not his best work but damn what a fun movie to watch. Just a well made film by everyone involved. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
In the trailer we are believe to think it is a b-movie with a barbarian trying to rescue a princess or killing the bad guy. Although it is true, it is the least important plot in the movie. There is, as we know now, a much deeper telling story. It is just one of the best films ever made. Though the sequel really suck, why? Because there isn't a deep meaningful story behind it. It is just a b-movie trying to rescue a princess and killing the bad guy, that's all.
They should really revisit Oliver Stone's original conception of Conan if they ever decide to bring back then character to the screen again. I don't count the last horrible attempt at it with Jason Mamoa. He could have been a great Conan, but the story and screenplay behind that one was weak and just horrible. If they did it right, and got the right screenplay to take the story and characters seriously like they did in 1982, it could have really worked.
filmes como este, nunca mais serao feitos, um personagem e um ator como o swarzeneguer , nao sei se escrevi certo, sao unicos, e para ser feito apenas uma vez !!! nao pode ser copiado ou superado!!!
I think the film and effects technology exists today to bring Oliver Stone's original vision of Conan to the silver screen, but it has to be done by someone special... The remake to Conan was a disgrace... Oliver Stone's original version (which we never saw) has the potential to be a darker and more brutal version of Lord Of The Rings...
Sgt Rock! "But at the start of the 90s, it could have been Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis uniting, when the trio were (almost) all at the height of their box office powers. The project was the comic book adaptation of Sgt Rock, being packaged by uber-producer Joel Silver, and there was real consideration given to bringing the three together in the one project. Schwarzenegger was attached, but we suspect it was the budget that ultimately kyboshed the idea. Sgt Rock is, however, still in development, and recently was linked to Bruce Willis. Guy Ritchie had been mooted as a director, but he went off to do Sherlock Holmes instead." too bad! agreed totally, they should have stuck to the original set up it was perfect and people would have been happy with more of the same with story adjustments etc
Maybe, but it is kinda fact that in 1982 the mass of moviegoers formed long lines that spanned streets, causing traffic jams. Can modern movies make something like that?
Alex Turchin Of course they can. And do. All the time. As evidence, look at the success of films like "Avatar", "Titanic", "Avengers". Franchises like "Harry Potter", "Batman", and "The Hunger Games". These films tend to get made people who are enthusiastic about telling the story. Also, respect for the source material has led to the phenomenal success of films like "The Lord of the Rings" and television series like "Game of Thrones".
I think they don't want to risk showing things that might cause an uproar, I don't know. Conan's world is more violent than in the movie, tons of tavern wenches and prostitutes, back-alley thugs....but hell, it's also more realistic and much richer! Today, in a fight, they would try to portray him as a total badass instead of a raw, quasi-animalistic cimmerian warrior. Also they would try to imprint modern day ideals and behaviour, which conan doesn't have, of course. ah...by Crom, I'm ranting again. I would totallly support a Conan TV show, like game of thrones(nice budget, nice actors, accurate portrayal of living conditions...)
I thought this one was fairly good for a film interpretation of conan. Did they get it perfect? No but it was watchable. Everything in this genre after this one sucked balls though.
pdxeddie1111 it's what happens when something is successful, tons of copycats follow trying to "eat" what's left. I don't think Arnold made a great interpretation of Conan(not saying it was entirely his fault though, can't think of a better actor in that time for this but script does count too)...it's just that Conan world is so much more, this felt like a single-issue comic story, left me feeling like they left so many things out that would have made it better
13:15 James Earl Jones face is right 13:20 "steel isn't strong boy flesh is stronger" 13:32 great James Earl Jones face stark blue eyes 14:08 people tend to have fun with villains
And Conan never said "goddammit" either, that wasn't an oath in Howard's post-Atlantean Europe - Jeez, people, I don't care if you wish you write an original tale, someone else did, and you can only spoil it by changing it - go read the original tales, the first 7 or 8 volumes
I must have to point out that what they say about Howard's paranoia towards his town and the way which he wrote Conan is flat out bullshit. He was not a Texan cookoo freaking out in the night, but hard working man with a talent and passion for history, archaeology, myths and fables, upon which he drawn on to create Hyboria and Conan.
Where is the sequel of this epic movie?they served us a mediocre mess and dissapointed, how about a real movie for us that love the books and the lore of Conan.
***** Yes. According to the story, Howard exclaimed that the "words and pages POURED onto my typewriter without me even thinking what to write." Fantastic.
Even though Conan is referring to the Cimmerian rather than the Christian god, on television they always cut out the part of Conan's prayer where he says, "and if you do not listen, then the hell with you"!
The music in this movie is out of this world!!!!!!
Βασίλης Πολυδούρης did good job for this and other movies too
the way the horns dance around the chorus in the main theme makes me want to grab an adjustable wrench and slam it into someone’s skull

if you put me in an island with a dvd player a tv and this movie I would be happy!

Nobody seems to know that the music and costumes were lifted from a Russian movie called Ivan Nevesky made by the director Eisenstein. The music is hard to recognize because it is so distorted.
I wish Arnold would’ve did a few more Conan films as a kid I had both movies and Red Sonia an alway’s thought it was Conan in Red Sonia
Technically it was gonna be, apparently the name he uses in the movie IS a alias from one of the stories. But Arnold was only supposed to be in the film briefly, but he got basically tied into a much larger role
The riddle of steel
A man against false religions and sects
Imagine any other than Arnold starring in a movie called Conan the Barbarian in 1982.......Right,you can't? Me either. He was made to be Conan. Not his best work but damn what a fun movie to watch. Just a well made film by everyone involved. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The best Arnie`s movie by wide margin. Predator and first 2 Terminators come after a big gap. His other movies are hardly worth mentioning.
The most badass movie ever
Im very curious to see how the new Conan, legend of Conan will be.
They are making a new Conan trilogy staring Arnold called legend of Conan I hope it is good
I think the film and effects technology exists today to bring Oliver Stone's original vision of Conan to the silver screen, but it has to be done by someone special... The remake to Conan was a disgrace... Oliver Stone's original version (which we never saw) has the potential to be a darker and more brutal version of Lord Of The Rings...
Stone wrote the entire script while on a coked up binge. And it reads just as horrible....
I an wrong the name of the movie is Alexander Neveski.
No cgi yes!must be a great movie!
Today it is easier to recreate any story than it was in the past.
+William Varner Easier yes, but with garbage CGI blood and creatures that look fake and stupid.

I so heard
Such a shame they ruined Conan the Destroyer, could so easily been as good as barbarian. Love this film and all the books
agreed totally, they should have stuck to the original set up it was perfect and people would have been happy with more of the same with story adjustments etc
1:25 edward pressman wanted to say "amazing physique" and that EP wanted to blow Arnold.
Not respecting the source material, I believe, is one of the main reasons many of these comic-to-film adaptations don't work.
Egyptians still rock! Ask Morsi ;))
And hell yeah, James "Zamunda's King, Vader's and Mufasa's voice" Earl Jones is absolutely tough!
13:15 James Earl Jones face is right 13:20 "steel isn't strong boy flesh is stronger" 13:32 great James Earl Jones face stark blue eyes 14:08 people tend to have fun with villains
One of the best movies of the 80s, Conan, Aliens, Predator and Terminator were the shit.
FYI: you know the Barbarians were Moors/Muur and you know they were really Dark complexion people... great movie though......
I'm glad they left all the mutants out. It was great the way it was.
And Conan never said "goddammit" either, that wasn't an oath in Howard's post-Atlantean Europe - Jeez, people, I don't care if you wish you write an original tale, someone else did, and you can only spoil it by changing it - go read the original tales, the first 7 or 8 volumes
the international cut adds a good talking scene and improves the ending. Don't piss off your former cultist...
This is something so real they Cant make it any more this is reality fantasy and the music is like God made
i have no idea what dino de laurentas said......
9:17 This is why I'm not really into anime action.
Thulsa Doom was such a great villain
So freaken sad that they can't make a new Conan movie with the same music/atmosphere/adult-content.....sigh.
lol 07:16 so great
Great movie, let's just pretend there was no sequel though
John Milius's voice in this vid sounds so much like a deep-voiced Steven Spielberg! lol
I’m surprised that Oliver Stone wrote this.
U r welcome! ;)
What if Conan were sent to disrupt the death cult of Jim Jones in Guianna? That is the basic thrust of the movie......
think about what this could have bee with today cg
it would've been awful
Bannerlord's music brought me here.
Oliver Stone was High as Fuck in the good days.
Where is the sequel of this epic movie?they served us a mediocre mess and dissapointed, how about a real movie for us that love the books and the lore of Conan.
Did that guy really try to tell me that the script writer saw terrifying visions of conan?
That's called LSD. Hell of a drug.
haha youre right, this movie and lsd are very closely related
Conan comes to me in my dreams every night, speaking in ancient language I don't understand.
I think he's trying to tell me I'm about to die.
NYAGHH I HOPE YOU LEFT ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY FIST.
***** Yes. According to the story, Howard exclaimed that the "words and pages POURED onto my typewriter without me even thinking what to write." Fantastic.
Should've left it in Olivers hands
jason mimosa?? LORF! xD
Even though Conan is referring to the Cimmerian rather than the Christian god, on television they always cut out the part of Conan's prayer where he says, "and if you do not listen, then the hell with you"!
really ? in which country ? : ) tv disrespect Crom, it's normal they cut the scene
"KruuuuuuummmB!"
