THINK LIKE A CHEF: PASTRY BATTLE | Sorted Food

  • When Barry and Jamie go head-to-head in a cooking battle, they often copy each other to get by… but what happens when we split them up so they can’t see each other cooking? Today is the day that we find out!!
    In this episode, our resident Chef, Ben, guides our Normals into making one of the most difficult pastry dishes to master: the Mille Feuille. With a no-nonsense approach, lots of cheffy jargon and a heavily technical process to follow, will our Normals be able to ‘think like a chef’? Or will they crack under pressure?

      I think this challenge just made Ebbers disappointed with the guys rather than frustrated 😂😂 it took Jamie all of 10 seconds to make a mistake adding pepper to his flour because he didn’t think, Barry needed every instruction repeated at least twice and he panicked losing control and instead of taking a breath to compose himself, he continued to flap and panic leaving himself susceptible to making more errors 😂

      The fact that ebbers said ALL the ingredients have been pre weighed and done, and have pepper with the salt, was pretty unfair. What ebbers said was a lie. It’s not pre measured, or pre set up with ingredients that are actually used. They have been SO many sorted videos that had ingredients that were not expected. The only thing I see Jamie have did wrong was trusting ebbers to not lie with the comment of seasoning which ALWAYS includes S&P.

    I feel Jamie should have won because he required less handholding. Yes, the end result matters, but if you are going to do it about 'thinking like a chef', and the one who needs constant handholding and repetitions is right there facing the chef to see his expressions and body language, that is a huge advantage for them. I am not surprised at all Barry won, especially given that Jamie instantly fell for the pepper trap. If anything, Jamie was the weaker normal here, since baking and such is far more up Barry's wheelhouse than his, and yet that's not where the chef helped out the most. In the future position the chef such that both battlers get equal exposure to him throughout.

      I agree. It seems like Barry asked for thr repeat of instructions and still didnt get the layers correct, didn't keep his area cleaned up and other than the feathering didn't make it look that much like Bens. Jamie added a bit of pepper and made a mess of the feathering but otherwise followed directions, cleaned up around himself and his pastery was much closer to the sample. But that seems to be a trend with them. Ben seems to prefer Barry's effort more than he does Jamie's getting things much closer to correct.

    • @boa_firebrand
      @boa_firebrand 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      as has been said on other comments thinking like a chef isn't just about a clean space and following instructions, it is more importantly about taste-appearance is important but flavour comes first, and Spaff was incredibly close but he under-cooked his dish and added an incorrect seasoning creating the wrong flavour profile. Effectively Spaff was more consistently chefy where Baz was chefy where it counted more this time.

    • @Abzify1
      @Abzify1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boa_firebrand Plus he completely messed up the chocolate, mixed the sugar in and added water. Baz's main mistake was not putting the tray on top at the end, as Ben said that the mistake in making the creme pate was just adding another step at the end so it was still the same end product but took longer to get there.

    • @kevinlorren7951
